  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:37 AM) The Sox will now have 55 division games after July 3rd. Tigers- 12 Twins- 14 Indians- 13 Royals- 16 There's your season. It's that way every season. Got to beat the teams in your own division and Sox have sucked at that last year and change.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 01:18 AM) But you need several million, maybe even close to 10 million extra tickets to pay for a dome. Maybe more for a retractable roof. Just think of it as the first ballpark ready for climate change. Dome stadiums suck. Congrats to Minnie for building an outdoor-only park. Retractable roofs suck as well.
  3. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 03:03 AM) So great now Dunn and Rios haven't played in two days and will now carry their cold bat once we start again. I wouldn't worry about that. Rest probably can help all ballplayers at this point. Didn't Rios go 0-4 in his last game anyway? It's not like Dunn is red-hot, either, though he hit a 3-run bomb which was his best hit of the season. I wouldn't stress about 2 days off. I like it. Nice break. I just hope they don't get swept by Minnie ... again.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:45 AM) Look, I know I'm nuts. I let my emotions (from a sporting sense) get the best of me at times. But what the hell are you talking about? Trade Pierre? For what? Raccoon s***? What the hell is the market for a near 34-year old with no discernable skill whatsoever? .260 is not worthless? It is when you can't get on base at an acceptable rate for a player that inexplicably leads the league in PAs, has about as much power potential as Justin Biebier or Lil Bow Wow, steals bases at a 50% clip and cant catch the damn baseball. Do you really believe this team would suffer without JP? He needs to go. Basically I'm saying u guys are preaching to the choir (cliche). The White Sox aren't going to simply release a moderately productive player.
  5. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) Pierre sure does seem like a wonderful man. It's sad that Viciedo is going to push him off the roster, but I think Pierre understands more than anybody that this kid is better than him and better for the team. Pierre will still get his ring. I just don't agree he will be pushed off the roster. That's not going to happen. His production is not horrific. He's staying on the team.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:13 AM) The Sox can probably get Lillibridge's bat in the lineup 3-5 times a week just by subbing him in during matchup situations. On days he is not in the lineup, have Vizquel play 3B and leadoff. On days neither Lillibridge nor Vizquel are in the lineup, go with Alexei or Rios or, f***, Dunn or Quentin. After the first inning, the actual batting order becomes generally irrelevant. So long as you have a good hitter hitting 1st, you're fine. I also flat out DFA Pierre. There's no way in hell I'm going to give Ozzie a chance to start him over Pierre, and really it's a matter of respect to a veteran player. You simply say "We don't want to disrespect you by benching you, but we feel that our team is better heading in a different direction. We are going to designate you for assignment and if anyone claims you, we assume they are going to start you. Otherwise, we will release you afterwards so you can find the situation that works the best for you. Thank you for your year and a half, your hard work has been appreciated." And then you never have to worry about Juan Pierre again. What dream world are you living in? Release a guy out of "respect to a veteran player?" I know you want him gone, but that is a total reach. The guy is hitting .260 which is not worthless no matter what you Juan-haters think. You don't just release the guy. You trade him or add Dayan and platoon him with Juan. I am assuming Viciedo is playing left in the minors. If he's playing right we really have problems cause Dayan probably will be a butcher in left if he's used to right.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:44 AM) In my opinion, this article was Kenny's way of saying that he wants Viciedo playing in LF but Ozzie wants Pierre instead. Just like last year, it's his way of putting Ozzie in the spotlight. He's the GM. He should have the balls to do whatever he wants personnel wise. It's not like our record is any good. Ozzie should have no clout about now. Both their jobs should be on the line. If KW thinks Viciedo is ready and thinks Pierre sucks he should call up Viciedo. I still will have to see it to believe it that the Sox would just DFA Pierre. Trade him to some NL team for some Class A bum.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) Because there's no way on Earth he'd give up a couple young arms with promise and simultaneously take on the $44 million still remaining on Rios's contract with his .575 OPS. If you put him on waivers, it's possible some team could gamble on him, it's happened before. But "a couple young arms with promise"? OK I just wanted to see if you were agreeing with me that he's terrible. I'll change it to trading him for 2 minor leaguers of any kind, then.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) That sound you hear is Ruben Amaro Jr. bursting into laughter and having no idea why. This concept is so ridiculous that it caused him, a person not even reading this board, not even in the same city, to be overcome with the urge to laugh. Not only to laugh, but to laugh so hard that it could be heard across 3 states. Medical scientists are rushing to the scene to figure out how any of this was possible. You mean he's laughing cause no way he'll pay Rios? Or that he's laughing cause Rios is such a s***ty player he wouldn't want Rios? Pls. explain.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:19 PM) ...I guess I'm the only one who realizes we are still under .500 and 3.5 games back behind...the Cleveland Indians. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) Other than Heads and Joecool, nobody on this site thought Humber would be worth s***. And NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY!, thought Lillibridge would morph into a 2009 Ben Zobrist clone. So the haha I told you so bit doesn't fly. That said, the White Sox are in third place. They're still below .500. And they still have a lot of question marks. Let's wait until they're in first place by a few games before all the I told you so's start rolling in. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:32 PM) Let's at least be a .500 team before threads like this start. Sox have been big time underachievers so far in 2011. If and when the Twins sweep us and/or kick the living s*** out of us this week as they did KC in a four game sweep (Minnie gets that you have to win divisional games, people) this thread would look dumb. Like the Juan Pierre story in the Trib quoted Juan as saying, the team is playing a little bit better. Juan didn't suggest the team was doing anything to boast about. Nobody should be starting a thread like this until say, we get five games over .500?? Ten over .500 would be nice. Until then, cmon. The team still has a grade D for its performance this season. We're doing flips over a 6-4 homestand? With our payroll? Wow.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Alex had a nice series against the A's. I for one want him on our roster, I agree with Hawk that we need him to start hitting, and the fact that he showed some things over the weekend is probably the most exciting thing we can take out of that series. I don't know why you would want him on the roster. He's grossly overpaid and we can 'win' without him. Trade him to Philly now for a couple minor league arms with promise.
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 04:30 AM) Lebron's gonna feel great tomorrow? At some point you wonder if that guy even cares at this point. No doubt you'll see rumors of Spoelstra being thrown under the bus coming out from Lebron's crew over the next 24-48 hours, pretty inevitable really. That's what I was thinking. LeBron really has nobody to blame but himself for not taking over or trying to do more late. That will be sad if the rumors do start that LeBron is blaming the coach. The panel of Magic, JonBarry, Wilbon and Scott didn't even come close to blaming Spo.
  13. If Dunn starting right now becomes the old Dunn, the White Sox would be in pretty good shape lineup wise. That's assuming Rios becomes a .250 hitter the second half and Gordon gets hot and AJ at least continues to hit as he has thus far this season.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 12:03 AM) This is seriously a HUGE series against Minny. We can pretty much finish them off with a sweep or let them right back into this damn thing if we do what we usually do against them(and yes I know they'd still be way under .500 but they'd only be a couple games behind the Sox). I agree it's huge, but at this point I think any game against a Central team is huge, because the division owns the White Sox. We underachieve against every team in our division with the possible exception of Cleve. This has to change.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 04:33 AM) This coming from the guy who says the same gloom and doom in the game threads night after night after night. And look up the definition of as nauseam. I just said, if you folks are going to say the same tired stuff about Juan every single day (we know he sucks; we get it) then don't get mad when I say the same stuff every day about things you don't like.
  16. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 04:15 AM) Why exactly are we speculating about trading off elements of the team? The Sox are 3.5 games back. Cleveland is in free fall, so the only team ahead of us with a chance to win the division is Detroit. I wouldn't count the Twins out -- they have played only 25 home games v. 40 road games -- but we still have a lead on them. I would expect this group of guys to start playing even better, and therefore would not be expecting KW to be dealing them. Cause many elements of the team make way too much money in terms of their production and some are old and/or injury prone. It'd be smart to deal them. Even if we are in the race, it doesn't hurt to start retooling the team a bit. Last year's big move was Manny. Yuk. Or Andruw Jones in the offseason. Yuk. This team could afford to dump some salary and make some smart trades.
  17. Pierre is not that good, but he's not deserving of the venom he gets on this site. I don't like slap hitters like Juan, who also has lost a step stealing bases and in the field, but he's not one of the worst players in baseball, either. People got on me for praising Bobby all last year saying it was 'ad nauseum.' We get it. Most of you hate Juan. Why beat the same ol dead horse over and over and over? At least shut up when some of us beat a dead horse on things you don't want to hear about cause we get it ... Juan sucks and you hate Juan ... on and on and on.
  18. Good victory today. Dunn with a bomb. Much needed. Humber with 7 Ks. Man, if this guy is this good, it will make up for some of the pitchers we've lost. He has sucked with all teams except for the Sox who hopefully have turned his career around. Konerko and Juan 2 hits apiece. Did anybody see on that one line smash up the middle, Sergio stuck his bare hand out there to try to catch it? I swear if his hand got in the way of that smash, he'd be out a LONG time. Woullda smashed his hand. Nice to see him get out of it and get the save. Could Morel have gone to third base on that ground ball that Crisp beat out or did he not have the angle? Comment on that? Not to look ahead, but it will be so disappointing if we don't do something positive vs. the Twins. That team is playing much better, but my god, at some point we have to get some wins against Minnie and Detroit and not be their patsies.
  19. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 05:39 AM) Would Ozzie have the guts to bench Pierre again. No and Rios is hot, so the only hope for Lilly blaming is a Sunday lineup resting of CQ.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 05:39 AM) You got Minnie's number? You dog, you. Minnie should come to the games against the Twins and maybe bring us some much needed good luck.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 03:42 AM) win tomorrow and it's a 6-4 home stand, lose it's 5-5. A 5-5 homestand would be laughable. 6-4 at least it's over .500. Get it done, Sox. Oakland is a s***ty team.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 03:32 AM) Jenks was there last year about as much as Peavy has been there And Matt was really a good replacement. I love Sergio but a few more blown saves and he'll be in Bobby territory as well. Bobby Jenks was a Sox superstar for years. So what if he finally flamed out cause of his fatness.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) Watch him. It couldn't be more obvious. He had those couple games off and has come out of it with his hands starting at the numbers instead of starting at the hips. He's had what, 4 hits, most of them right up the middle, since bringing his hands up. And two more hits tonight. He has to feel good about himself after the little incident in which he freaked out in the dugout for sucking. Hope he continues to do well and make adjustments when he sucks.
  24. Gio was wild tonight. Is he normally that off? Glad to see him not beat us, though Sox didn't make him pay much for those walks. It's not like we scored a ton.
