Twins win in their half of the ninth. Walk off base hit. Twins seem to get up for teams in the Central year after year.
-
As much as we struggle with the A's, with those 3 particular hitters up, you'd think we could at least get somebody on base. Geez. Weak ass ninth inning, White Sox sluggers. All-In is sounding like a dumb slogan. 6-4 isn't all in, it's mediocrity.

Bad call by ump. s***. Damn. Paulie didn't get anything into that.

We're not playing good baseball, folks. It's Sergio and pray for rain.

Paul Konerko named AL Player of the Week
greg775 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just want to say we can b**** all we want (our record should be better than what it is today) but Paul Konerko is one consistent son of a b****. What a stud. Congrats on the award; stay locked in as you were all last season, Paulie. You are one of my favorite Chicago athletes of all time! f***ing stud. -
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Can someone please tell me why they brought in thornton to face two righties instead of a righty. This is the problem I have with lefty closers. Righties lick their chops. I voted Matt for closer though just because last year at times he was so nasty and I felt he deserved the chance first. Now I want closer by committee all the way. Sergio first up.

Only one on the board? I voted for MT as closer but many many people didn't.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) I have yet to see a fanbase that wasn't smarter than their manager... Amen. Name a manager/coach that doesn't get second guessed when their team loses. It's always been this way; always will be. Some fans feel better criticizing all the manger's moves that fail just as many fans always call for the second-team quarterback to enter the game until he finally does for a few games and he sucks as bad as the starter. I do think Mark should have been given the opportunity to finish the shutout, though. Saving him for the rest of the season/career is stupid. You can't predict the future. Let him start the ninth inning, though i tell you if he imploded in the ninth, the fans would have been just as mad at Ozzie for not pulling him.

After reading what you all said in response to my questions ... I see no way the Hawks win more than two games this series. No way. Our goalie sounds like he's been overworked. And he's young. With no backup, it could get ugly. Feel free to respond as I am only going off what I've learned of late in this thread. I am a playoff bandwagon fan sadly.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 02:57 AM) People need to admit that Thornton has also had pretty bad luck in his first 2 outings. Very very true, but a closer needs to strike out some people and be flat out DOMINANT at times. Lots of bats hitting balls with Matt out there. Somewhere, Bobby Jenks is laughing, not necessarily at Matt screwing up, I'm sure he likes him, but at the fact, the ninth inning is a different animal like Fathom and others have said. I'd love to see a stat on how many batters Bobby struck out in most of his saves in a Sox uniform. Matt ain't whiffing enough people. That said, his two blown saves are equally on Juan IMO. I mean WTF. Juan has to bail out Matt by catching the f***ing ball!? (How's that for a disjoined post by me?)

April 11th Game Thread White Sox versus Athletics
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (OilCan @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 03:19 AM) So let me see if I had this right. Thornton, who's blown more save opportunities than coverting them in his career (17 saves, 23 BS in his career) is the WS closer...why?!?!? Sheesh. He ain't going to be much longer. Yes Mark should have pitched the ninth. We still should have won against the A's ... at the Cell. WTF is Juan doing dropping fly balls that cost us 2 games??? Cmon Juan, concentrate. As far as Rongey, what do you want him to do? Pile on? I didn't hear all the calls, or any of the calls, but did he say over and over it was the right move? I would think he would recognize callers' concerns a bit on this issue. 91 pitches isn't a lot. I mean I guarantee you Oz will let Mark go over 91 if he's in, say, the sixth inning. I think he's a good postgame host, though, on the shows I've listened to. -
Thanks guys, you helped educate me. Hope we can get a hot goalie in the playoffs.
-
OK, Hawk Fans. For somebody who just can't follow hockey closely during the regular season (yes I was a bandwagon fan and watched every postseason game last year),tell me two things as quickly as possible. 1.) Why did the Hawks suck this season after being so dominant last year. I know the salary cap crap. But what players did the Hawks lose that killed the team and who did not step up that was supposed to??? 2.) Tell me why I should believe Chicago can win it all again. Is there any hope of getting hot? ANy hockey enthusiasts see SOMETHING in this team that could do it?

I love when Paulie hits like this. Glad he remained a White Sox. Beckham ... wow. Keep it goin as well. Great pitching. Nothin to complain about. Really, nothin.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 01:34 AM) He was being sarcastic? Then he still fails. Don't jam up the board with worthless threads. That s*** annoys the hell out of me. Could've gone right to the White Sox winner thread and padded his post-count if it was that important to him. I knew it was sarcasm rite away. Nobody in their right mind can be high on Pena right now. Though nice job today for sure. Keep it up. I actually kind of liked him as a starter last year.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 04:17 AM) It really doesn't matter if he's injury prone, freak injury prone, ect. The fact of the matter is we took on a rather hefty contract with the expectation that we'd have a legitimate #1 starter heading our rotation and the return on that investment has been miniscule. I want Peavy to be a stud. I love his attitude. But will any of you be surprised if/when after about 3-4 starts he feels a twinge or is out again? I sure won't be. I mean if I was him I'd be afraid of what's ahead arm-wise.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 04:23 AM) That's one side of the coin for sure - and a side which is warranted by reality. However, there is another possibility which is also likely as well. Time will tell... I'm still hopeful and optimistic... if being as such is a fault - then I am glad to be faulted. It has served me very well in all areas of my life outside of baseball and I gladly carry it into my Sox fandom. Great to be a glass half full guy. I commend you for that. I try to be positive as well generally. Haven't been too into the Jake Peavy saga since he became a Sox however. I do like his attitude; have always liked that.

Should Sox hit Felipe with pitch or not Sunday?

I also laughed at that above line. Good line in saying you'd rather hit Sale. I also smiled when reading that excellent line. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 05:40 AM) So Lillibridge is not a bad player? What about Brandon Wood and his career slash line of .167/.197/.258/.454 in almost 500 plate appearances at the big league level? He doesn't flat suck? What about somebody like Rodrigo Lopez (just pulling names out my ass now)? He's not terrible at his profession? Do these guys have to be Cubs for it to be alright? This is simply a case of multiple posters getting sensitive about something rather inconsequential. This argument reminds me when I thought Wise was a good player and everybody ripped me and I kept fiting back. Now I can see why people got mad at me. This is growing old. I don't like Lilly and don't think he's a real major leaguer, but I wouldn't call him worthless. Maybe bad player is correct just as you all thought Wise was a bad player. I would grade Lilly a D, which I would also grade Wise. But both have had some decent moments in Sox uniform. Neither player is/was "worthless."

greg775 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) If Longoria was still there, I'd say hit him to really send a message, but no one else in the lineup stands out like he does. Maybe get Lopez in the later innings. Yeah later innings maybe if we are up 8-2 or down 8-2 but to lose your starting pitcher over that would be ridiculous and no doubt in my mind Floyd will be ejected if he hits him leading off the game. -

cws the replay is on mlb.com right now. He homered off Sale in the ninth and flipped his bat out moderately close to the mound. -
If you hit Felipe with a pitch, the Sox starting pitcher is ejected immediately. AJ already stood up for Sale and the Sox. AJ spoke up. Why have your pitcher hit the guy and immediately get tossed? I mean AJ the stud he is, already took care of it.

White Sox vs Tampa Bay game thread 4-9-11
greg775 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Apr 9, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) Well I loathe him...he is the worst handler of a pitching staff I've seen in the decades I"ve watched this sport. No one on the planet can explalin to me why on earth you need 3 pitchers to get 9 outs. Every year we end up with an exhausted bullpen by mid-season. I think it's reasonable to say Sergio coulda breezed through the ninth. I also agree a guy can go 2 innings once in a while. -

I'll take it. Does Sale get a save for that? Nice job by the kid. Maybe the experience of giving up a run and putting the tying run on will help him in the long run. There was some pressure there to complete the deal. We win. Let's get 3 of 4. -

I like Oz, but not letting Sergio open the ninth was big D dumb.
