Five is Enough - Turning this S*** Around Game Thread

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:10 AM) Well aside that Tampa didn't use a closer tonight as James Shields finished the game, Dunn also just had an appendectomy recently and missed some time which DOES matter.. Its hard to have take peoples posts legit when they make statements that lead you to believe they didn't even watch/follow the game (I.E. Tampa using a closer tonight) Ide be absolutely shocked if Dunn didn't have 35-40 homers and 90-100 RBI's by the end of the year.. this place is going to hell over a 7-10 start, my god I watched it on mlb with the sound down. I just assumed they brought in a closer since nobody ever pitches a complete game, at least on our Sox. My bad. I realize Dunn had the appendectomy. s***, he's been back a while now. As far as freaking out over 7-10, the team has lost 6 games in a row. Lose a few more and it's time to ask ELIAS the last time an AL champ survived a losing streak of 7, 8, 9 games. Good teams don't drop that many in a row. I think this place should go to hell over a 7-10 start. It's a pretty lousy start. -
It's hard to have a good discussion when a team is as streaky as the White Sox. I mean we could talk about the bullpen situation, but uh, the bullpen hasn't had to save any games of late because we're always trailing. Some of the guys were red hot at the plate and now dead. I guess we could discuss that. The Sox make it tough to have good discussions because they are so damn flaky. Six in a row?? Why? Why not drop a couple, then win four in a row when things are going bad? No, we tank. It's six and counting.

QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:41 AM) I expected Dunn to strike out a few times, but not to look this bad. I was hoping he'd come through tonight, so we could hear Hawk's inevitable and annoying as hell, "It's all good!". Adam Dunn has been so bad it's laughable. Why can't we ever pick up a guy and have him EXCEL from Day One? Remember Rios and how bad he was at first? My god, Dunn could have picked us up tonight. Instead, predictable whiff in the ninth against their closer, who unlike ours, can close. Are we going to break out of this slump or be out of it this year by mid May? p.s. The way this team is going, the next time we actually lead in a game, our closer will blow it again. This is why you can't blow 3 run leads in the ninth, Mr. Thornton and Pierre. The team goes in the s***TER immediately afterward. f*** we suck. -

Nice at bats, Dunn and Paulie. One run? What a predictable joke of a team this is. This April is slowly turning into a disaster after winning the first few series. Just fire somebody and prove this year is different. Oz, Kenny, somebody. Fire away. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) It's way too early to throw in the towel, but it is quite depressing right now. I could barely watch last night's game. As a matter of fact, I think I only watched about three innings. The offense is non-existent, the starting pitching is spotty at best, and the bullpen is a crapshoot. I'm sure it'll turn around, but will they be good enough to win the division? The news about Peavy is very disappointing, but the team hasn't has Peavy since July. Humber has done an okay job, and hopefully he can keep doing so. I would not be surprised if Peavy doesn't return before June. And when he does, I'm beginning to doubt he'll be the pitcher he once was. I'm not worried about Dunn. He'll come around and end up with numbers around his career average. I'm concerned about the chemistry. It seems like the team can't all play well together. If the offense is good, the pitching and defense is bad. If the starting pitching is on, the bullpen blows it. If the offense and pitching are winning the game, the defense is dropping balls. The only time they play the same is when they all play poorly. It was tough to watch that Rays game. You just sense we will not rally and yet had we had a 4 or 5 run lead none of us would feel safe. Very depressing right now.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Thanks for a quick response, honestly Sox came out batting hot, so a slump was due, hopefully adjustments are made they get back to where they were offensively. I don't know why everybody thinks a slump was "due." Teams can play winning baseball for a long time, winning series after series if they are not dysfunctionally hot and cold like the Sox. I wouldn't mind if they can Ozzie, but truthfully it won't matter much. Cora is no better and Buddy Bell is a joke.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 03:46 AM) Who knows if those innings hurt him, but I agree it was an absolutely ridiculous decision to pitch him at the end of that year. I remember at the time getting crucified (bad choice of words this week) for suggesting it was crazy to pitch Peavy. I said it'd be best to just start the season in April and have the excitement of Peavy opening the season with the Sox. People were furious at that point of view and said they wanted to see Peavy pitch NOW!!!! Don't know if those innings hurt him, no way of telling, but that was a dumb dumb decision.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 05:27 AM) Personally, with the amount of cash he's cost me only recently, if I was Reinsdorf KW would be gone. Manny, Peavy, Griffey... it's over man. You are burning cash now. To tell you the truth, after the last couple seasons, I wouldn't be upset if KW and Oz were fired tomorrow. Even if it means we get worse as an organization. We stink so bad right now. Of course those three sentences will be laughable if this team gets its s*** together and, led by Adam Dunn, wins the division, rolls to the WS and behind a strong closing pitching staff, beats the Phils there.

I don't agree with everything Ranger says cause I don't listen to many of the postgames. But he is my idol over that one call. That was epic. I realize it's early and the Royals definitely showed their warts tonight as I watched them implode late against the Tribe. KC obviously is going to fizz and Cleveland right now is the flavor of the day. I'm just stunned that the Sox drop game after game and many are so blase about it.
-
No offense to anybody, but I can't believe all the threads that just don't care that we dropped yet another game, just because it's early and things will be fine. We sure don't have the one game at a time mentality on this message board. Where's the concern? This team is horses*** right now on a daily basis.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 02:18 AM) At least this should end everyone's hope that he will be an ace or top starter for us. Its time to move on and forget he is even on this team. Waiting around for him is a wasted effort. Exactly. I don't know if he should simply be shut down for the year or not, but the guy is a mess physically. As far as his next contract, give me a break. Nobody will sign him for more than the minimum if he never pitches for us.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 01:37 AM) It really is amazing how regardless of the moves this team makes the team never changes. Prolonged slumps and then incredible hot streaks and a pitching staff and bullpen that is wildly inconsistent. Kind of like the Hawks this past season where you sit around and wait for something to happen and it never does. How true. I really thought after we won the first couple series we'd be more consistent this year. Then this crap. I hate that we just go out nigiht after night and drop game after game. But it's early .... that's a crock. This team should be ashemed of itself. Puke baseball in April.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) Sox r screwed right now. I'm screwed. Since I bought mlb.com the sox have looked like the worst team in chicago history.
-
Let's face it, Peavy is a helluva competitor who is injury prone. I haven't been counting on him mentally a long time. Wish him the best, but he's damaged. That said, this team is a f***ing joke right now!! Wake up white sox!
-
Sucks that we have to go to Tampa right after beating their ass in Chicago.
-
Why do we stink so badly? Bye bye, Ozzie. No way Jerry, as much as he likes u, is gonna let this continue through mid May.

Time sure flies. My gosh. I know The Cell is in the eyes of the beholder. I know a KC radio guy who says he really loves the Cell and another radio guy says he likes it much better than Wrigley even tho the national perception is Wrigley is heaven, etc. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) Not even close. At least Rock Star or something is kind of funny. Some choices Bob Jenks Lover Ozzie Apologist Rongey Fan Club Wrigley Smells Jon Garland Lover Joe Crede Fan Club Don Kessenger was Once Our Player/Manager

Catch all item: Who puts the little funny comment under our names. Mine is ad nauseum which is starting to make me nauseous. Can't I change it to Rock Star or something?

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 03:04 AM) 8-11 is not a horrid start With this team and payroll? That is a laughable start.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 11:31 PM) Just going through the thread, and this is also my exact frustration. I don't mind the strategy of bunting occasionally, and in game situations, but to ask players to bunt who aren't good at it is simply terrible managing. Either he assumes (quite wrongly) that a bunt will always get the runner over and rarely fails, or he's "showing up" his player, forcing him to work on it, in his mind, when in fact he should know that players make money for a lot of particular skills, but bunting isn't one of them. Ozzie, plainly managed am awful game again Friday night. What's the point of having an 80% base stealeron first base in the game situation, and not allowing either you're formerly hot hitter to swing the bat, or the best base-stealer to steal? That was a momentum killer as much as the lousy bullpen. I'm not surprised we were swept. Time to turn it around. Who is "good" at bunting on our team? I've seen AJ lay them down and also fail. Shouldn't Beckham be able to bunt? Is he always as bad as yesterday? I do agree we should just hit and run or steal because it seems to me the Sox players fail to get the runner over the majority of time when asked. I wonder what ELIAS would say? I'd like to see the percentage of times the past two seasons we've tried to bunt a guy over and either made out or the batter had to swing with two strikes after failing to get the bunt down twice.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 11:54 PM) They better not. I've had enough of JP to last two lifetimes. Me too. How's that No. 1 draft pick doing, Mitchell? Is he ready?

Angels @ White Sox, Sunday 1:10 PM, CSN
greg775 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2011 Season in Review
It's too simplistic to say Ozzie is the problem. We may need a change, though. The sad thing is I don't want a member of his staff taking over and I sure don't want Buddy Bell. So a change would not be a good thing, cause we'd get one of those two things. I guess I could handle Harold Baines getting the job or even Ryne Sandberg. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 01:56 AM) That's good to hear. I also deal with complete idiots on a daily basis at my job. Sometimes it's difficult to hold back. Me too. I try to avoid the idiots at all costs. So far I haven't been fired for doing so. I simply cannot stand idiots.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 18, 2011 -> 03:48 AM) Hawks have a lot of work to do in the offseason. Amen. Hopefully all the main players will be well rested, because of this early exit and they can add some players. Canucks got some great goalkeeping tonight. Hawks had more than a chance to win this one. Oh well. This is the Bulls' turn to reach the Finals. p.s. Is this current goalie the guy you want for the future?
