  1. That's the only reason for optimism.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 03:23 AM) I would normally agree with you. But I don't want to spot any team 10+ games. I don't care how early it is. The Sox look every bit as lifeless since those first two games in Cleveland that they did during last year's start. And I'm rather certain another 38-13 tear is not going to happen this time around. I can't believe people are not concerned. If we fall 10 games back, I don't care of what teams, it's going to take forever to make that up, no matter how well we play. Not all teams drop seven, eight, nine in a row. If any team that far ahead of Sox just goes 4-6 during its dry spell(s) it's impossible to catch up in six week span.
  3. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:07 AM) Nothing. I stopped reading there. It's April. It's 7 games. They were going to lose 7 this year, it was just a matter of when. s***, we've got to be nearing one of the longest losing streaks in team history, April or not. It can't be too many more games than 10.
  4. I never thought we'd be this putrid offensively after scoring all those runs up to the point we were two over .500. I thought this would be the one year the offense would rake from start to finish.
  5. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) Firing the manager doesn't do anything to a group of veterans who know the game. I would maybe buy it if this team was full of rookies but they're not. If it worked everyone would do it all the time. It doesn't. Then what the hell do the Sox do? It's 7 in a row and counting in f***ing April. i wish some beat writer or radio guy would get Reinsdorf to do an interview NOW. Like fathom said he's got to be furious. I mean I'm usually the most patient fan and I'm furious. The guy spending the money to see Adam Dunn suck and everybody else suck has to be LIVID. Make Jerry talk. His team is putrid.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 12:48 AM) Who do you want fired and how would it help the Sox? You think if Ryne Sanberg was standing in the spot Ozzie is standing right now, Rios, Beckham, Dunn and Pierre would start hitting? Do you think if Rick Hahn took over for Kenny Williams, Matt Thornton would become a top notch closer and Jake Peavy's arm/back/shoulder/adnoids would heal and he'd be able to pitch tomorrow and be an ace? Who should be fired because of Alexei working the count and hitting a weak pop up? You know what, I normally would be the one to post something like you just posted. But this is just unacceptable. I guess it has to be Ozzie who should get the boot after today's game. He's the easiest one to can and make a statement to these rich players who are playing like s***. We're not even in these games. If not, I'd settle for Ozzie completely going ballistic in the locker room; throwing over the food table, calling out the veterans. Something. Or Jerry Reinsdorf publicly ripping into the team. How the hell is this happening with our payroll? Seven in a row??
  7. It's hard to lose 7 straight in April; I'm seriously thinking it's gonna hit 10 or more this year, which will be embarrassing. In April???
  8. This the year the sox have to be "that team." The one that gets mocked nationally for making an early firing. Somebody should be fired now. This is ridiculous. Seven losses in a row when you are "all in?" Lexi works the count then hits a weak pop up? This is the year the Sox have to be the team that cans people early. Or Reinsdorf has to publicly pull a Steinbrenner and rip the team or SOMETHING!!!
  9. Thanks Hurt, I was hoping it was not that other Davis. Well thankfully I have to leave now for an hour or so. If we lose 10 in a row, don't they have to fire Oz and KW both? 10 in a row is too many.
  10. You'd think the law of averages would grant us a victory a couple times a week. Oh wait, there is no such thing as law of averages.
  11. This isn't Don Davis is it? That stiff from the NL who recently signed? How can we not score?
  12. Adam swings through fastballs as effectively as anybody in the AL.
  13. Adam Dunn annoys me at this point in time.
  14. Remember when Tampa came to Chi winless and some were worried about law of averages having them win a game. Tamps sure isn't worried about law of averages regarding the Sox ending the losing streak as they kick our ass every night before such intimidating crowds in Florida. This isn't even like a real road trip with no fans in the stands and we still are getting b****slaped. Will we ever lead in a game again? If so, when?
  15. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:23 AM) Who's with me?!! Let's do it!!!!!!! I like you Pants, but I wish the Sox had your enthusiasm. Paulie getting picked off without even sliding into first was not a good sign of the current state of the team.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 03:11 AM) He.was.not.serious. Threads that are started yet are not serious are not very productive. Put it in the sox catch all thread if you want to be funny.
  17. From Sun Times story. My god, he takes anti inflamm medicine for six days and maybe starts throwing Friday. How can that be good news? I'm not stressing cause I'm not counting on him pitching more than a start or two this season. I'd just shut him down frankly until next year, unless all of this discomfort, etc., is totally "normal." ptatc? any opinion? shut him down for the year?
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 03:36 AM) Well we're already 6 games out. Another week or so of this crap and we could very well be 10 games out. You say don't worry about it because it's Cleveland and KC? Well if a team at any point in the season can put you in that large a hole it's more than likely because they're legit. And it's not like the Sox have exactly shined against either team the last 3-4 years. My bad. 5 games out. If we fall 10 games out, it will take to the All Star break at least to catch up. You can bank on that. Ten games out guarantees a god-awful first half of this season.
  19. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:24 AM) You think so? You're telling me that they still would have went "all in" this season had the team finished in the 70's for wins last year? Yeah right.. I mean those games meant nothing because the team was so far out of it. Who cares if they finish strong or not? The team just plain sucked in the second half, right after that great interleague stretch
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:37 AM) If only they could have broken through with that 1 extra goal in game 2 or 3 but I guess that's what will happen when you're the inferior team. I don't think this game alone will rattle Vancouver but if the Hawks can take game 5, some doubt might start to creep into their minds, going back to the UC, anything can happen in a game 7, yada yada yada. Great post. Winning game five would be awesome. I don't expect it, but after tonight, you got to believe a bit.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:18 AM) Here's the problem: "This place is going crazy over a 7-8 start?" "This place is going crazy over a 7-9 start?" This place is going to hell over a 7-10 start?" At what point are you allowed to be concerned? Do we have to be 15-30 before it's alright to panic? Not saying that anybody is really panicking. I know I'm not. But this team does not have the proven pedigree of the Twins. There's no wiggle room to really say "it's early". Now it is early. And I can easily see this team going on a 15-2 run at some point. But as of right now, the criticism is well deserved. The baserunning and defense has been insulting. That's something that we go into EVERY season hearing those two categories are a point of emphasis. And it's the same crap every year. What happens if Wade Davis shuts us down tomorrow? Still too early? I agree. I hate when the team just loses night after night after night. To me, it means more than just meaningless games in April. Something is wrong when you drop games in bunches like this. We're in one of those stretches where I find it impossible to believe we're going to win the game. April or not, that sucks.
  22. The 9-2 to finish it out definitely meant nothing.
  23. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 04:10 AM) Well aside that Tampa didn't use a closer tonight as James Shields finished the game, Dunn also just had an appendectomy recently and missed some time which DOES matter.. Its hard to have take peoples posts legit when they make statements that lead you to believe they didn't even watch/follow the game (I.E. Tampa using a closer tonight) Ide be absolutely shocked if Dunn didn't have 35-40 homers and 90-100 RBI's by the end of the year.. this place is going to hell over a 7-10 start, my god I watched it on mlb with the sound down. I just assumed they brought in a closer since nobody ever pitches a complete game, at least on our Sox. My bad. I realize Dunn had the appendectomy. s***, he's been back a while now. As far as freaking out over 7-10, the team has lost 6 games in a row. Lose a few more and it's time to ask ELIAS the last time an AL champ survived a losing streak of 7, 8, 9 games. Good teams don't drop that many in a row. I think this place should go to hell over a 7-10 start. It's a pretty lousy start.
  24. It's hard to have a good discussion when a team is as streaky as the White Sox. I mean we could talk about the bullpen situation, but uh, the bullpen hasn't had to save any games of late because we're always trailing. Some of the guys were red hot at the plate and now dead. I guess we could discuss that. The Sox make it tough to have good discussions because they are so damn flaky. Six in a row?? Why? Why not drop a couple, then win four in a row when things are going bad? No, we tank. It's six and counting.
  25. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:41 AM) I expected Dunn to strike out a few times, but not to look this bad. I was hoping he'd come through tonight, so we could hear Hawk's inevitable and annoying as hell, "It's all good!". Adam Dunn has been so bad it's laughable. Why can't we ever pick up a guy and have him EXCEL from Day One? Remember Rios and how bad he was at first? My god, Dunn could have picked us up tonight. Instead, predictable whiff in the ninth against their closer, who unlike ours, can close. Are we going to break out of this slump or be out of it this year by mid May? p.s. The way this team is going, the next time we actually lead in a game, our closer will blow it again. This is why you can't blow 3 run leads in the ninth, Mr. Thornton and Pierre. The team goes in the s***TER immediately afterward. f*** we suck.
