  1. AJ shoulda punched that 0-2 pitch into left for a hit. He needs to change his approach. He's old with no power.
  2. I've watched the whole game so far. Are we ever gonna score a goal in this series? My god. Things are not looking so hot.
  3. I've said before I'm against the bunt only because our players can't do it. I mean either work on the bunt more in ST and batting practice instead of the players half assedly trying one bunt in the cages or scrap the strategy. It's ridiculous to see our guys fail time after time after time.
  4. The bunt didn't work but there's plenty of blame to go around again that inning. How bout a clutch hit once in a f***ing while?
  5. Ha. Nice pop up. One more inning to go to pull this one out.
  6. Nice bunt, Gordon. How bout concentrate and get the job done.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 01:53 AM) Greg, this team had a chance to go 10-2 or so in first two weeks and get the city pumped. Instead, the bullpen/defense has s*** the bed, and now there's not much excitement about the team. With the ridiculous road stretch coming up, this team needs to start playing better all around baseball in order to have an exciting summer at the Cell. I know. It's very disappointing. As much as everybody hates Jenks, a Jenks (in his prime) type closer is what we needed to build that excitement. We needed automatic saves and we got s***. I'm not giving up. f***, I just bought mlb.com 2 days ago, but this start combined with that dumb slogan pisses me off. I wish they'd take the all-in off the website. We're not all-in. Nobody is all-in, especialy not this team. Still plenty of weaknesses.
  8. All-in is a joke. We're having a fairly cruddy homestand all of a sudden. I'm sure if this keeps up, Oz will be the first manager fired this year. Problem is, they'd just give it to somebody on the current staff for the rest of the year and that won't solve anything. Very disappointing beginning. If we lose tonight, we are 7-6. Considering the opposition, s***ty record for a team 'All-In.' I think I'd be less upset if we didn't have that bulls*** slogan. For the record I don't want Oz fired, but I won't be heartbroken when he gets the ax. He's rich enough and will land on his feet and be in baseball the rest of his life and make more money than most of us will ever dream of. Sad start to this season.
  9. I think you two had nice long posts and you provide an intelligent discussion rather than the simple short, mean, Ozzie sucks posts and MT sucks posts in the game threads.

QUOTE (soxsider11 @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) aj sucks and does not produce. The sox are such a streaky team from TCQ beckham floyd jackson etc. can carry a team when they are on but if they all decide to go away at the same time watch out. The pen will be fine and i believe will still lead us to the division title I wouldn't say AJ sucks, but I'm thinking he has little pop in the bat anymore and should concentrate on being Jason Kendall. Slap singles instead of pulling the ball. When he pulls it he grounds out to second so much, at least in the games I watch. What's wrong with drilling singles to left and up the middle and occasionally find a gap in right center as well??
  11. I like Santos but there's no guarantee he'll be a good closer either. You need an overpowering guy uh like Thornton was last year and the year before. He's lost something. How bout the Royals' Jeffries (sp) in the Brewer deal? Wow. Throwing 99 in setup role. Oh how I wish we had a guy with a heater to close.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 04:31 AM) God damn it, we're supposed to be 11-1. I think it's fair to point out how s***ty the losses have been, especially considering this "All In" thing. We should have seen this coming with no established closer. But ... if Sergio is as good as he appears to be, and the other relievers get their head out of their ass for a few batters at a time, we could still be OK bullpen wise. If Sergio fails ... man. You do need a closer to win divisions.
  13. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) The A's can't hit. Pen needed a confidence booster. Compound that with pitchers need to last a whole season. Why is this hard to understand? Oh and I could look like Nolan Ryan IF I HAD NEFTALI FELIZ IN MY PEN. I understand that completely. I just happened to think that on these two occasions these games were pretty important to set a tone. I think Mark and Danks woulda breezed through the ninth. I'm not saying to do it all the time. I just think early games are important. I could be mistaken. Lillian I loved your theory. Somebody should do an article on that or ask Bill James his opinion. Awesome stuff. Can you send it to Bill James and ask what he thinks of it? I like your theory.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 03:54 AM) Our pen will get straightened out. Adam Dunn is back in the lineup. Juan Pierre can't keep making so many errors and mental mistakes. We're 7 and 5 after playing some of the worst ball possible... Let's take this as a sign that this team will be down right dangerous when our ship is righted. I hoipe you are right. As far as Pierre and our outfielders (remember Rios dropped a fly ball last night too) it's been funny to see our outfielders really squeeze the mitt on fly balls lately since the bobbles, except for Rios. He's kinda casual.
  15. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Plus, is Thornton really struggling? 2 of his blown saves the defense gave the opponent four or more outs. Yes, today he sucked. You could have hit him, or at least been confident stepping in against him. He was trash today. So much I wouldn't be surprised to hear he has the dreaded dead arm or some kind of injury.
  16. Removing dominant starters after eight innings really is a sucky part of modern baseball. Is there any proof one more inning, considering the adrenaline the pitcher would have, helps ruin arms? Mark and Danks should have completed easy, clean, victories recently. These clean victories can set a tone for a season. Instead we see what happens when you start anew and bring in a reliever. I say we need a brave manager or GM or owner (Nolan Ryan) to say "f*** pitch counts" when starters are dominant through eight. Let 'em finish their masterpieces. Did Picasso let some clown finish his work at the end? Oops I meant 'change' in my headline. can somebody change it?
  17. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) I'm not deleting anything. If they ban me, they ban me. But nobody's going to insult my credibility here without a direct and harsh response...especially the one that tried. That's what I said last year as well and I still got penalized. Your post may be word for word the same as mine. I'm calmer now, partly because I don't care if they fire Ozz or not. This team is too dysfunctional to get worked up about. We never have a clean win it seems like. Always some bizarre drama or implosion ... well not always.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) No, that's not what happened at all. A poster does not like that I base my opinions of baseball on "assumptions", which is what second guessing is, and calls me an inept idiot. That's what happened. And the response he got from me was deserved. Judging from the past then, he's prolly going to get a vacation and you too. Unless the rules have changed a bit. I hope nobody gets vacationed.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) I think the pitch count thing is really a reaction to the huge salaries don't you? Protect the investment kind of thing. I agree that it may be taken too far though. Different game then it used to be. I remember the 1967 Sox for instance having 20 complete game pitchers on staff. Now some of the best starters have none over the course of a year I guess, but it sure would have been nice and maybe even set a tone for the season to have Mark and Danks simply finish the ninth. There's something to be said about nice, clean baseball victories in April. But no, their arms would fall off so you can't let a guy finish a game.
  20. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) I think this loss is going to put a few people here in the penalty box here on soxtalk... I hope not. The game threads are different from regular threads. They bring out the worst because of the anger in the Sox blowing games.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) You are the stupidest poster on this board. I DO read your posts thoroughly, you simply make DIFFERENT assumptions than I do, thus you're awesome and I'm inept? f*** you, dickbag. I don't think anybody ever called me a dickbag even when I incensed posters big time.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Make Santos the closer in about 5 minutes. Have Crain and Sale your set-up men, and use Thornton in the 7th inning for now. That's it. That's really all the Sox can do. By the way, in the old days today would have been a complete game easy win, as would Mark's the other day. It's simply absurd this pitch count crap. Eight innings of greatness, then you have to take the guy out lest you ruin his arm. Utter crap.
