I agree. Last night was a weird game. The Hawks had some nice goals, but the Canucks would immediately score again to get the 2 goal cushion.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) Really? You were in total denial about Bobby Jenks' declining performance last year. The Sox for as how terrible they have played recently, and without Dunn for half the time and Peavy for the whole time, and dropping 5 flyballs, and having their new closer 0-4 in save opps and having their defensive specialist 3B on pace for 50 errors and the guy a lot of people thought should win a GG at SS on pace for about 40 errors, are 2 games out of first place, This team should be fine, the only thing that concerns me is the total lack of fundamentals, which if you looked at it objectively, has been a trait of Ozzie Guillen led teams more often than not. Is that Ozzie's fault? I don't know Fielding in general, throwing to the wrong base, missing cutoff men, failing to get bunts down, failing to move men over, the list goes on and on. I think KW needs to tell Ozzie to make this weekend a bunt free weekend. They were 0 for 2 yesterday. Its just a waste. Ramirez goes up to try to bunt, he has no chance getting it down, its almost like he wants to get behind in the count on purpose to increase the degree of difficulty for his AB. BTW, the Sox are currently on pace to win 87 games. The Sox currently are one game over .500 with an easy schedule and are having a blah homestand. As far as Bobby, I don't want to go there. I do want to see our current closers actually get a save and not suck just about every time they hit the mound.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) I love hard edged sarcasm. Well done felix, you hooked many fine fish throughout this thread Baiting people through sarcasm on this board is bad. Just put your real thoughts or put it in green.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 06:22 AM) Yea the team isnt playing great but put it this way like how even Gordon mentioned after the game ... if this is the worst we are going to play then that's pretty good. We are going through some tough times with the Bullpen struggles and poor defense. But that willl all come around b/c the talent is definitely there. I hope Gordon commented on his s***ty bunt attempt. Little things mean a lot late in games.

How many of the losses have the Sox actually been "beaten"?

I don't know, but the record is 7-6 and that's not good enough. -
Dunn is what he is (cliche). He's going to be great this summer in the Cell. Team just needs to start playing better and judging from past few seasons I am not that hopeful.

Who got banned? And why? i missed it.

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 04:35 AM) My God you people need to relax. It's April 15th. Calm down Tannerfan, the team is playing bad baseball. We have a right to be in mild panic mode. We know it's early, but we also know good and bad baseball when we see it. Chicago fans are smart fans. Yes the offense should be amazing this summer, which is a positive.

The problem is we've played s***ty baseball this season with a favorable schedule. That's not good. Good starting pitching and decent offense. Other than that, fail. -
Great shot by Smith cuts it to 4-3.
-
Another sloppy goal allowed by the Hawks. This isn't the same Hawks team as last year (obviously). We ain't getting more than one game in this series.
-
Nice goal. Hawks showing some spunk at 3-2.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 04:01 AM) And replace them with who? Just for a temporary uptick? Until we've found a consistent closer and Peavy comes back, it's pretty hard to make any judgements on what we have with this particular Sox squad. I would be shocked if JR did this. Imagine in 2005 when the team was collapsing and they fired the manager. If anything, last year's comeback from near death has bought Ozzie the opportunity to get through this entire season. Unless we find a new manager who can teach Sale and Thornton to be the next Mariano Rivera and add cutters to their repertoire, it's not worth it. Although I do think Rongey defending Thornton's slider as a consistent "solid" pitch over the course of his Sox career is amusing. True Caufield, but a month and a half is enough to judge when you are "all in." I prefer keeping Ozzie but he can't get this team out of its maddening play the last couple seasons. -

True on the Twins. Thing is, the Royals have been playing scrappy ball and they've been getting great relief from young rookies. Scary. -

If we are really all-in, they should fire the whole coaching staff if we are a few games under .500 in mid May. I'd give them until mid May to show something. Schedule has been easy. Sox have played sloppy shoddy baseball for the most part. -

Royals win again. Sox fans would be excited if we were 9-4 like they are instead of 7-6 blahdom. -

They might as well fire Ozzie if KW doesn't want the Sox to repeat that scenario. Cause we know all too well Ozzie will do that every time in late innings. -

First and second one out in theory is not a bad position to be in if indeed they walk Dunn. -
A sloppy goal like that at the end of the period ... that's it. Vanc. will not blow a two goal lead at home in the final period. We'll have to score very early if we want to make it interesting.

I'm not saying it's right. Managers' ideas are to put the tying run on second with one out. Would they have walked Dunn? That also would go against the book, putting the winning run on first base, but let's say they did? Still first and second one out. The idea is you have a good chance to tie. Not saying it's right, but it's the book for the home team many times to do this. -
What a s***ty goal. 3-1. We're playing s***ty road hockey. Crap.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 04:38 AM) He needs to be batting 9th...only problem is so should Morel and Pierre. Another 1-2-3 to end a game. Ozzie continues to manage us out of games...terrible season so far for him. Ozzie may suck but it's ridiculous to think one bunt call cost us this game. You play to tie at home and win on the road or so the dreaded book says. I don't care if Ozzie gets the boot or not, but that's on Beckham, not the manager. -
