  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) If the Yankees trade for a starter...they've been linked occasionally to Greinke as well. Yeah there's the whole psychological thing, but the Yankees have his brother in their org as well. I know Greinke was a minor distraction to the Royals this year in ripping the team a couple times and expressing his frustration, but if NY gets him, I would expect Zack to retire midway through the season. He already is a millionaire and has a severe problem mentally. Pitching in NY would likely throw him over the edge again. He credited the Royals for being patient with him during his recovery. He simply can't emotionally pitch in New York. It would be cruel to send Zack to the NY media market. zack should have shut up this year because for the betterment of himself emotionally he's in a perfect place with very little media/pressure.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 12:02 AM) I thought the Sox sold low on Swisher and that he was unlucky in his one year in Chicago, but I honestly never had any real problem getting rid of him. He did have more of a track record than Quentin does. What I've been trying to suggest is what was said above...that Quentin's value is far greater to the White Sox than anybody else. The Sox will view him as a guy who can hit 35 homers and put up a .900 OPS while playing adequate defense, while other teams will view him as an injury risk who is inconsistent and plays terrible defense. They're the same player, just different scenarios and differing opinions on the value of said player. I don't think the Sox are going to be able to find a better investment on the open market for $5 million, so they may as well stick with him one more year. If he doesn't do much this year, he will be let go because paying a guy $7 million to hit .240 and 25 home runs who does not play very good defense just is not smart. Off topic I thought Swish had an awful at bat in a crucial playoff spot when the ball hit him in the leg and as the color man said he "didn't even try to sell it" at all. He ended up making an easy out. I'm not a Swish fan.
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 02:59 AM) Wow, back to lurking I go! Don't stop posting. I've been buried and lambasted before. They were just jokin with you. Post away. Just say no to lurking.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 04:08 AM) I still remember feeling my body temperature raise by 10 degrees when the Sox blew a game to Cleveland coming down the stretch. How did my remote control survive that night? I prefer to forget how I felt daily during that stretch "run." It would have been simply crushing and demoralizing to not even make the playoffs. Fortunately we got some help and the team pulled its head out enough to hold on. Then the great postseason run. I remember Astros fans being pretty confident going into that series. Fortunately we played great, clean baseball with great pitching and defense.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) To say the very least, that is how I felt, too. I'm positive that I took time off of my lifespan with all of the worrying/pressure/excitement. October of 2005 was consumed by the White Sox. I remember feeling very fortunate I had no conflicts and could watch every inning of that postseason. Was magical. The games were close but the sweep of the Astros was perfect. Nothing could have gone better.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Just can't please some folks. How many times do we hear every year, "Anybody but the Yankees." Then when we get some new blood we hear how it's going to be a s***ty series and nobody will watch. Honestly, I'm really starting to lose interest in playoff baseball (unless the Sox are there, of course). If anything, the ridiculous length of the games are what's going to keep people from tuning in. These games are just taking wayyyyyyyy too f***ing long. We're not even talking about 10-8 slugfests in which you expect the game to run longer. Even the low scoring games are taking forever. Tonight's game took 3:41 minutes. Are you serious? For a 3-2 score? And this has become a trend. I don't know what the hell can be done about it. But baseball has to come up with something. Buster Onley proposed a 15-20 second pitch clock. Sounds pretty crazy. But I'm not sure I'd be that against it. Excellent post IMO. Man, I agree if it's not the White Sox (or even the Flubs; I'd probably watch their entire game in the WS) I won't be watching every pitch. Games take forever. But we have some Rangers fans at work (many of you are probably running into Texas fans as well since Texas is such a HUGEEEEE state) and I'll watch the majority of the game(s).
  7. QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 07:46 AM) Anybody else get crazy flashbacks when Rowand and Uribe were both on the field celebrating? That is crazy indeed. I wish them both well. Two great competitors. Uribe has been a fine NL player after his days with the Sox. Rowand is a former favorite of mine, though many on here hate him which is their prerogative of course.
  8. QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) this world series is garbage, gonna be the lowest rated in a LONG time.. With all due respect and I mean no harm ... fans of both teams will tell you "f*** off." Seriously, it's a darn good WS in my mind. You know why? Cause both teams deserve to be there. Who gives a f*** about the ratings? Who gives a f*** that NY, Boston and the fricking Phillies are sitting home??? Not me. I like this WS. I like it a lot! And good luck to Texas overcoming the homecourt disadvantage since we lost the meaningless all star game. Yes the AL lost to the minor league NL. You listen to some people on here and the NL is like Class A baseball. I'm sure some people thought CWS vs. Houston was an awful WS as well. Uh, fans in Chicago (well some of Chicago) and Houston were darn happy to be there. I am surprised so many people care about ratings. f*** the ratings. Play ball!!!!
  9. Touche. Those were good KW trades.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 03:50 AM) No sane GM would give up anything of value for CQ right now. CQ does need to go away; preferably to an NL team. You guys get mad at me for saying it, but I get tired of ex-Sox beating us all the time. Hide them in the NL, please.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 04:48 AM) I hope the rangers get swept in the World Series. f*** nolan ryan. What you got against Nolan? I'm happy for the Rangers. It's always good to see somebody new in the WS. Wow did Feliz have some stuff in the ninth (not that he needed that stuff to finish that one). Good for the Rangers. They've got the offense and a great ace and the other pitchers are good and/or very hot right now.
  12. I'd hold onto Danks. If you have to trade a starter, try to get somebody to overpay for Buehrle. My one beef about Kenny is we never get ANYBODY to overpay in a trade IMO at least.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 22, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Yup. I didn't go through it obviously. I still think I would get sick of hearing about them even if I had been old enough to experience it. I don't want it to be 2025 and having to refer back to '05 because the organization has done little to nothing since. That's all I meant. 2005 - awesome. Since then ... a surprise. I thought the Sox would continue excellence if not domination for some time to come. Right after the Sox won it all, I think there was a feeling the team might have a sustained run. Granted we haven't fallen off the map with some playoff appearances, but as it stands TODAY, the team certainly doesn't look like an AL champion contender for some time to come. Our everyday lineup is not championship caliber. Our pitching (on paper) IS championship caliber. Unfortunately our pitching has been far from consistent and our bullpen has been poor the past 2 seasons at least. 05 ... magical. Tear-inducing. Since then ... Tear inducing for the wrong reasons.
  14. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 21, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) I sure hope he's back as good as ever. We need him. Yes we do. We need a dominant ace to go with Danks, Jackson, Mark and Floyd.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 07:08 AM) ...and had a cigarette? QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) I would imagine that at some point during a season, most managers think about quitting, retiring, etc. Especially guys who have been around for a long time, like LaRussa and Leyland. And some years when they say they are pondering it and leave the mdia and fans to guess, maybe they actually mean it. I would probably be very difficult to make that decision to retire. Maybe they actually need those few weeks to think about it, or maybe it is a tactic for more cash. As far as Leyland, though, for as good as a manager he is, he can smoke all he wants. Yes he can smoke all he wants, but he's gonna pay the piper for all that smoking someday. Unless he's very very lucky and one of those freakish guys that can smoke until he's 100 and have it not affect him.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) I think a large part of it was that they thought he just wasn't ready, he's only been a manager in the minors for a couple years and he's never dealt with major league managing in any capacity. I wonder if they won't try to get him on as a bench coach to get him up to the big league level. That bench coach thing makes sense. The strange thing is the guy is a Hall of Fame baseball player who has put in a few seasons in the minors. How "ready" do you have to be in baseball? It's also strange the Cubs are to the point it is a noncontender. Hope that doesn't happen to our Sox. It can happen seemingly in the blink of an eye. The Cubs were a nonfactor all summer.
  17. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I would think the job of a major league manager could be quite stressful. A manager like LaRussa and even Ozzie probably don't care that much about the second guessing of the fans. They can't really, and be successful. I agree that Pinella might get bored. He's a volatile guy, and all he's really known for a long time is managing...and he's been pretty good at it. You never know, he might resurface somewhere with another team. I would think it is stressful, but the fact LaRussa only needs a couple weeks to think about it every offseason (and Leyland too) to decide to come back proves it's a pretty nice way to early zillions. I realize Leyland was out of the game a while, but he's in no hurry to quit anymore, even though someday he's going to probably regret all those cigarettes he smoked because of the stress of managing. I can see smoking during ones 20s when people party a lot and go to the bars a lot, or smoking just on the occasions you are partying in your 20s, but anybody over the age of 30 who smokes is really pretty stupid unless they have a deathwish. Sorry about getting sidetracked, but I started thinking about the pressures of managing.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) First round needs to move to best of 7. I would 100 percent agree with that.
  19. This definitely says something bad about Ryno. What do the insiders say? Is he too dull? What? He's definitely qualified. And he wants to do it. Why didn't the Cubs just name Ryno? Weird.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I saw they released Melky today. Wouldn't shock me to see Cabrera with the Sox next year, as he's always been rumored to be a KW favorite. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 05:08 AM) Poor showing by Yankees fans, leaving before the game is over? Weak. Ugh on Melky. Why do the Sox add players who just make me feel blah all over? Just say no to Melky. Yankee fans poured out of the stadium the last two nights. It made me realize when you've won as many pennants as they have, this just doesn't cut it. Down 5 in the ninth and they are long gone.
  21. It'd be harder to win it all if they expand, but it is pretty tough to make the playoffs if you are not a big money team. The wildcard will go to an AL East team every year so we have to figure a way to beat out Minnie or we stay home.
  22. Lee was pretty much unhittable tonight. Amazing how some guys' arms get stronger as the season progresses no matter how many innings they throw. He was money. Unhittable.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) No his range is pretty piss poor Is his range really that bad?
  24. He always takes a couple weeks after the season and decides to come back. Time off is overrated. By spring training, he'll be raring to go. It's a pretty good gig if one can handle all the second guessing. And the bucks the managers get paid, it's probably pretty easy to handle second guessing. I bet Piniella will get bored as well unless he has a cushy TV gig.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 02:43 AM) 3/4 starter. U can't possibly think he's a 2 at this point. And he's not worth no 12 million. Yes but Jackson isn't worth it either, so what's your point? Our rotation coming through big time as well as the bullpen is about the only way we'll win anything of significance next season. We don't have the bats to do much of significance.
