  1. Is it true the Marlins are going to go after Ozzie this offseason? If that happens, get ready for LaRussa to the Sox and Torre to the Cards. I'd prefer Torre to the Sox and LaRussa to the Cubs.
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:34 AM) Depends on what you mean by large and small. If by large you mean a new catcher, DH, 3b, Rf, bullpen arm and closer, then I'll vote large changes. Can't argue there. I said small changes only because you know damn well if we trade any of our starting pitchers, they will excel elsewhere. On paper we have Danks, Floyd, Peavy, Mark and Jackson. On paper we have Putz and Thornton and Sergio and Sale. On paper that is a division title staff (though we still have to see it to believe it). So that means change the lineup again. How to do that w/out dealing pitching, f*** if I know. At some point we have to buy some free agents who are young and impactful. Good luck Kenny. This year was totally bizarre. The sad thing is you know guys that we lose are going to come back to kill us ... it's the Sox way. I can see AJ stroking gapper after gapper to beat us. I can see Konerko hitting bomb after bomb after bomb to beat us ... in a Twinks' jersey? How can we keep our pitching intact and drastically change the everyday lineup? And how can we get the starters to f***ing pitch to their potential?
  3. I blame the season on, as usual, being a step too late. Way to acquire Manny when we already were 3-4 out. Stupid. How bout being aggressive when we, uh, led the division after wiping out that 9.5 game deficit. Now we are 7 back again after being 9.5 back at one point early? What a tease.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:10 AM) Why the hell would anyone root for our rival to win it all? Also, I'd rather not watch the WS games in that pathetic, boring park Easy. I actually listed 2 reasons why. Maybe you'd like to respond to them. Did you read my post?
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:07 AM) I don't know how anyone thought this team was a 1st place/World Series calibre team back in February. Wasn't this team predicted to be a 3rd or 4th place team in the offseason? Sort of true, but with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Mark, and an alleged good bullpen, a lot of people thought we'd pitch our way to the title. I was a little worred, however, with Teahen at third and Lexi at short with the weak arm in left. Remember Lexi was not nearly as good a defender heading into this season as he is now. A lot of people thought our pitching would dominate, led by Peavy.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:58 AM) They deserved it. Let's go Reds! I hope the Twins beat the Reds. Keep it in the Midwest and have the Twins f***ing win it and maybe next year other teams will get fired up to play those dull pieces of s*** for a change.
  7. I simply love baseball, but this is going to be a horrible offseason for me, cause it's going to take a while to look forward to seeing the Sox play again after this dysfunctional season. The 25-5 was awesome, don't get me wrong.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:51 AM) lol. Like who? I'd rather they run some random fans out there then some of our pathetic minor leaguers. Flowers, Viciedo, Lilly, Morel for starters. They might actually, you know, beat the Twins. I guess we're still "in it" though, even tho we are 7 out. You know if we win the next two, it's just five out. So cmon out and pack the Cell, fans, will be the marketing cry. Don't give up.
  9. I will say Rios didn't "appear" to go balls out after that shot. Maybe he misjudged it. He had his glide on. This time to no avail. I do respect Fathom for blasting Rios this season. From what I can tell, he's the only person to go there.
  10. s*** we might win tomorrow if we play Morel, Lilly, Flowers, Dayan and start Sale. Why not? Why give the Twins the pleasure of beating our regulars again in a big series? The scrubs might actually win. 5-11 vs. Minnie.
  11. What a beatdown. We uh, led, 3-2 in this one? Sox are so dysfunctional.
  12. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:43 AM) The fact of this is true. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear it and I'm sure he will always love 2005. We all will. The implication that he, or the players, don't care is not a consequence of that, though. The players do care as much as any big league team cares. We just can't beat the Twins and we also suck overall vs. the Central. Blowout in game one of the big series.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:43 AM) He'll keep playing to justify the 175k he makes per game. He can justify it just by showing up to the park and eating sunflower seeds in the dugout. Let Viciedo DH and learn how to walk. Let Flowers catch everyday and see if he can rap a few hits. Let that new guy play third every day, Morel.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) I feel like Manny has hit one ball hard all year, and that was against Valverde. After this series, really no need to play Manny any more. Next.
  15. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) The players performance, though not right now what we want, is not because they are lazy or don't care. Baseball's hard and they're playing better than most everybody. They are going to win around 90 games. They've even played well recently. Twins have just played lights out. We do have young talent. Some perspective. Hindsight is always easy. They're still my team, and I get frustrated, sure, but I love 'em. That's why I say the Sox "plan" is always to be competitive and hope for a ton of career years. I don't think the Sox are ever going to want to "rebuild" cause with our fan base if we are out of it on June 1, it means horrible horrible crowds all summer. This offseason isn't going to be a good one for me, cause how can any of us be looking forward to more of this next year. Minnie according to Fathom has ton of room to add players. They are only going to get better and until our starters become dominant, we figure to be just second best again. I agree we have had a decent season and they are also my team, but we reek vs. the Central.
  16. It's murder being a Sox fan whenever we play the Twins (with the exception of the best game ever, the elimination of Minnie in that magical playoff game)
  17. The Twins must laugh their asses off on flights about their owning of the Sox, aside from the magical playoff game.
  18. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 03:20 AM) This entire thing is a mess. I don't see a light at the end of this tunnel until they just clean house. Kenny and Ozzie need to go. Clean out the minor leagues, and just start over. There is no plan. From the top to the bottom. We fling crap at the wall and pray something sticks. For years we have used the buy low methodlogy to picking up outside help. Not being able to understand that your mancrush from 5 years ago, is not the same player sans injuries and age. The minor leagues are just abysmal. We have had 2 times over the last few years to reload and haven't because Kenny always thinks he is one player away. We still go searching for bargains in the draft instead of looking for talent. The only difference is that we are now at least paying attention to the first round. Afte that its almost like we think there is nothing there after the first round. Then of course we don't instruct. Wear the mitt on your head and we will promote you. Can't hit a curveball, you get promoted. Dont know which way to run, we promote you. The plan is pretty obvious. Be "competitive" every year so the crowds aren't abysmal and hope for a ton of career years, lightning in the bottle. Nice at bat, Manny.
  19. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:54 AM) Even when we score it feels like a bad inning... Yeah. It's vital Danks breezes through this inning. A typical Sox Twins game would mean immediately sucking after that massive failure by AJ and failure to pick him up by Omar.
  20. Lexi saves the day. Would have been nice of Rios to stroke a hit and give the Sox the sudden lead though.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Carlton Fisk was, is, and always will be a Boston Red Sox. When I think of him, I think of him as a White Sox.
  22. I love the sentiment of this thread so I won't add a negative vibe of any kind. GO SOX.
