QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) Manny's been here for like 27 seconds and he's already been a waste of 4 million. Not singling him out or anything. But our season is just about over and he hasn't even had a chance to make a legitimate impact. We acquired him too late. Sox have a lot of work to do in the offseason. Will be hard to improve the team if we don't trade any of our starters and I assume we still want a rotation of Mark, Jackson, Floyd, Danks and Peavy which on paper will be very good. Man with Sale and Thornton and Putz and maybe Jenks ... on paper that's a worldbeater staff. But we know how on paper doesn't mean s*** when it comes to the White Sox, who can't beat teams in their own division.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Jenks just seems to break down during the 2nd half way too often. Thankfully, this is the last year we'll have to worry about this, as there's absolutely no way you bring him back for the money he'll want. Once again, I sure hope he doesn't go to a team in our division. He'll own us.

Does money rule all personnel decisions in baseball?
greg775 replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Teahen just doesn't have a position. He simply sucks at third. He's bad in right. He's not even good at second. Bad bad acquisition. Again, he'd be OK to play once a week assuming he doesn't cost us that game ever week with his glove. I just think we can't afford to keep him around, especially if Omar retires and we start him at third. Him playing everyday will show up regularly in the won/loss column if he's in the field somewhere. -

I don't want to comment on Wise now. His defense was good at least. I contend that a sieve and ragarm like Teahen can really cost you games playing third base. Wise started a while, then was a reserve. I got no problem with Mark if he is a once a week player. If you think him being a starter at third or right field or first base won't kill us next year, I disagree. He is not good enough to start on a contender. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 04:47 AM) Money is in every decision, baseball teams have a finite amount they can spend or are willing to spend. It's a business, for better or for worse, but it is. Still, a player has to fit the model of the team, thus Teahen on the Pirates makes little sense unless they feel they can improve his game enough to trade him later. They want to go young, and while Teahen isnt really that old he doesnt really fit their MO right now (atleast from what I can tell). A team that may be interested in the offseason is the Yankees, where they can take a risk like Teahen, just like Swisher, and put him in a utility role which really favors him more. I would still think we'd have to pay most of his salary if we deal him, unless some big market team actually would want him and pay that money for a utility guy. I have no idea how much profit the White Sox organization makes in a single year, but if there is a significant profit, they should count their losses and move on from Mark. He's not good enough to be DH and he's a butcher. -

Good point coolman. It just seems like yesterday they were in the Cup finals. -
Where are they now? Former Sox players of days past
greg775 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If he was smart he would have his own business teaching the knuckleball. Guys like Wilhelm and Wakefield can pitch forever if they develop an effective flutterball. -
I would think we would just simply dump Teahen or trade him to the Pirates and pay all but $500,000 of his salary. If not dump Teahen ... can the White Sox justify keeping him and making him a once a week guy? It's obvious no matter where you put him, he is not a good enough defensive player to be on the roster of a so called contender. Who cares about the money? Just dump him or demote him to a Sunday lineup guy. I am assuming the answer to my question is we have to start Teahen because of his salary, just as we had to keep pitching Linebrink cause of his guaranteed salary. I'm saying eating Teahen's salary should be a no brainer.

What up with Zack this season?

Hudson, Richard, Garland, oh my.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) The Twins have won divisions because they beat the teams within their division, most notably the Sox. And if you check how many times we've finished second, you'll see why the Twins have 5 titles in the past decade while we have 3. With the unbalanced schedule, it's the only recipe a team should have. Win in your own division. I thought we were going to do that consistently after '05. Now we are REALLY stuck in a rut of average play vs. KC; lousy play vs. Cleve; average to lousy play vs. Detroit and disastrous play vs. Minnesota. And it could be considered below average against KC since we go .500ish against them when we should be beating them like we did the NL teams and Seattle.
-
Can you imagine if the Twins lose in the first round again this year? I mean, how many years in a row can they implode? Thome might really help them this postseason. He couldn't help the Dodgers much just as a pinch hitter. But he figures to really help the Twinks in the postseason being a veteran big bat.

I did not know that. What was he doing afore his death? -
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:33 AM) Am I the only one who hates Omar hitting second? But yeah that is what your 3-4-5 should be. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:35 AM) I'm not wild about it either, but at least he gets on base from time-to-time.... I'm not wild about it as well, but I feel like I am an ingrate for thinking ill of Omar. Without his defense at third this year -- had Teahen been our everyday third baseman -- we'd never have had a pretty fun six weeks or so and would have been out of it all year. I feel bad for thinking ill of the 1-2 punch of Juan and Omar considering they had good seasons. they just don't thrill me. I feel like that makes me a s***ty fan tho.

KC ... What a pathetic excuse for a team ... again. Thanks for beating the Twins. Sox continue to struggle against teams in own division. Hopefully that trend changes next year. Can't win a division, certainly can't contend for a wildcard, with our typical success rate vs. the Central.

For blasts from the past. I'd like to know what Bill Naharodny is doing. Gary Peters. Joe Horlen Hoyt Wilhelm Chet Lemon Richie Zisk Jim Spencer J.C. Martin Harry Caray's original color man who got fired for being too critical. He and Harry blasted the team during a rain delay and the color man was the fall guy. Jim Essian LaMarr Hoyt Pete Ward Bee Bee Richard Jorge Orta Where are they now? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Would you let it go? Thome got plenty of praise when he was here, and he got plenty of s*** when he had his bad stretches, as any player for the White Sox does on this site. What do you want people to do, go back and alter their posts and heap tons of praise on the guy? Some people loved him(Kalapse), some people didnt care for him(Jerksticks). It is what it is. Asking something like what is quoted above is doing nothing but asking for an argument You are telling ME to let it go when every thread turns into Thome? Ozzie? I will respond until I'm banned. I expect people to drop the Thome schtick as I was told to drop the Jenks talk. If they bring it up you expect me to ignore it just because I could give a s*** if Thome was on our team or not? It's old and we get it. Thome good; Kotsay/Jones bad. Oh wait, just Kotsay bad. Most people seem to like Jones.

QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Great attitude AJ, sayanora if that is the case...thanks for sucking the entire first half of the season...there will be some big changes next year that is for sure. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) Sick and tired of watching AJ hit ground balls...... Hope "HE GONE" next year!!!!!!!!! QUOTE (11and1 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) But the Hawks drop the puck in a little more than a month. Always entertaining. Quote one and two: Better hope AJ doesn't go to a Central Division team. It'll be the same ol s***. He'll hit .400 against us and kick our ass. I can't believe how long hockey season is. I mean, doesn't it seem like they just had the parade? God, I can't imagine one of the Hawks having to play again this soon after winning it all. -
All I want to know is: Where was all this praise for Thome when he was, uh, actually on our team?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) cst_sox Lineup - Pierre, Vizquel, Rios, PK, Manny, Teahen, Jones, A.J., and Missile - Thome is not in the lineup - insert tears here. Teahen equals yuck. Seriously, how is this team contending? Man we have some mediocre baseball players on this team. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Wow, there are almost no new posts since I last checked the site last night. I'm guessing people are demoralized. I know I am, after going 7-1 and losing half a game. It is pretty sad. It's like we gave them our best shot and they still knocked us to the canvas. It's their year unfortunately. And yes, Jimmy Thome is a big part of their success. And might lead them to a WS berth.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:30 AM) Two more years of Mark Teahen left to go. Oy. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) Unlike the last decade though, I don't feel bad about losing out to the Twins. In the past, the Sox were the more talented team. This year, that's not even close to being the case. They're 25 games over .500 without Nathan all season and without Morneau for almost 3 months. You tip your cap to them if they end the season with 95+ wins. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:41 AM) If it makes you feel better, Ozzie hates him. Things always look bad when we get blown out, but... Torres is just another guy who now has to make a living doing something else. Hope he got his degree. Awful pitcher. Man, Harrell's line is ugly tonight. Wow. The Royals are laughably bad. However they beat us their fair share of times. Minnie, of course, is mopping up on them. I just hope if we don't miraculously catch them that the Twins finally win it all.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) This is a bit disconcerting to see two regulars out today hurt. But, this is when the team has to step up Exactly. Hope some of the unlikely candidates surprise me.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) Yea, true that =) I didn't think it was offensive either. Just didn't want to see those two guys. I thought it was gross more than politically incorrect. If you can find a pix of two women doing that, more power to ya.

Having Paulie and Beckham hurt devastates the lineup. Would be nice if Teahen could start earning some of the healthy bucks he makes. If ever the team needed a spark from him it is NOW.
