  1. Hudson, Richard, Garland, oh my.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) The Twins have won divisions because they beat the teams within their division, most notably the Sox. And if you check how many times we've finished second, you'll see why the Twins have 5 titles in the past decade while we have 3. With the unbalanced schedule, it's the only recipe a team should have. Win in your own division. I thought we were going to do that consistently after '05. Now we are REALLY stuck in a rut of average play vs. KC; lousy play vs. Cleve; average to lousy play vs. Detroit and disastrous play vs. Minnesota. And it could be considered below average against KC since we go .500ish against them when we should be beating them like we did the NL teams and Seattle.
  3. Can you imagine if the Twins lose in the first round again this year? I mean, how many years in a row can they implode? Thome might really help them this postseason. He couldn't help the Dodgers much just as a pinch hitter. But he figures to really help the Twinks in the postseason being a veteran big bat.
  4. I did not know that. What was he doing afore his death?
  5. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:33 AM) Am I the only one who hates Omar hitting second? But yeah that is what your 3-4-5 should be. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:35 AM) I'm not wild about it either, but at least he gets on base from time-to-time.... I'm not wild about it as well, but I feel like I am an ingrate for thinking ill of Omar. Without his defense at third this year -- had Teahen been our everyday third baseman -- we'd never have had a pretty fun six weeks or so and would have been out of it all year. I feel bad for thinking ill of the 1-2 punch of Juan and Omar considering they had good seasons. they just don't thrill me. I feel like that makes me a s***ty fan tho.
  6. KC ... What a pathetic excuse for a team ... again. Thanks for beating the Twins. Sox continue to struggle against teams in own division. Hopefully that trend changes next year. Can't win a division, certainly can't contend for a wildcard, with our typical success rate vs. the Central.
  7. For blasts from the past. I'd like to know what Bill Naharodny is doing. Gary Peters. Joe Horlen Hoyt Wilhelm Chet Lemon Richie Zisk Jim Spencer J.C. Martin Harry Caray's original color man who got fired for being too critical. He and Harry blasted the team during a rain delay and the color man was the fall guy. Jim Essian LaMarr Hoyt Pete Ward Bee Bee Richard Jorge Orta Where are they now?
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Would you let it go? Thome got plenty of praise when he was here, and he got plenty of s*** when he had his bad stretches, as any player for the White Sox does on this site. What do you want people to do, go back and alter their posts and heap tons of praise on the guy? Some people loved him(Kalapse), some people didnt care for him(Jerksticks). It is what it is. Asking something like what is quoted above is doing nothing but asking for an argument You are telling ME to let it go when every thread turns into Thome? Ozzie? I will respond until I'm banned. I expect people to drop the Thome schtick as I was told to drop the Jenks talk. If they bring it up you expect me to ignore it just because I could give a s*** if Thome was on our team or not? It's old and we get it. Thome good; Kotsay/Jones bad. Oh wait, just Kotsay bad. Most people seem to like Jones.
  9. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Great attitude AJ, sayanora if that is the case...thanks for sucking the entire first half of the season...there will be some big changes next year that is for sure. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:24 AM) Sick and tired of watching AJ hit ground balls...... Hope "HE GONE" next year!!!!!!!!! QUOTE (11and1 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) But the Hawks drop the puck in a little more than a month. Always entertaining. Quote one and two: Better hope AJ doesn't go to a Central Division team. It'll be the same ol s***. He'll hit .400 against us and kick our ass. I can't believe how long hockey season is. I mean, doesn't it seem like they just had the parade? God, I can't imagine one of the Hawks having to play again this soon after winning it all.
  10. All I want to know is: Where was all this praise for Thome when he was, uh, actually on our team?
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) cst_sox Lineup - Pierre, Vizquel, Rios, PK, Manny, Teahen, Jones, A.J., and Missile - Thome is not in the lineup - insert tears here. Teahen equals yuck. Seriously, how is this team contending? Man we have some mediocre baseball players on this team.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Wow, there are almost no new posts since I last checked the site last night. I'm guessing people are demoralized. I know I am, after going 7-1 and losing half a game. It is pretty sad. It's like we gave them our best shot and they still knocked us to the canvas. It's their year unfortunately. And yes, Jimmy Thome is a big part of their success. And might lead them to a WS berth.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:30 AM) Two more years of Mark Teahen left to go. Oy. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) Unlike the last decade though, I don't feel bad about losing out to the Twins. In the past, the Sox were the more talented team. This year, that's not even close to being the case. They're 25 games over .500 without Nathan all season and without Morneau for almost 3 months. You tip your cap to them if they end the season with 95+ wins. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 02:41 AM) If it makes you feel better, Ozzie hates him. Things always look bad when we get blown out, but... Torres is just another guy who now has to make a living doing something else. Hope he got his degree. Awful pitcher. Man, Harrell's line is ugly tonight. Wow. The Royals are laughably bad. However they beat us their fair share of times. Minnie, of course, is mopping up on them. I just hope if we don't miraculously catch them that the Twins finally win it all.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) This is a bit disconcerting to see two regulars out today hurt. But, this is when the team has to step up Exactly. Hope some of the unlikely candidates surprise me.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) Yea, true that =) I didn't think it was offensive either. Just didn't want to see those two guys. I thought it was gross more than politically incorrect. If you can find a pix of two women doing that, more power to ya.
  16. Having Paulie and Beckham hurt devastates the lineup. Would be nice if Teahen could start earning some of the healthy bucks he makes. If ever the team needed a spark from him it is NOW.
  17. I thought I was being kind to Manny, saying he could mentor Viciedo maybe on how to take some pitches once in a while.
  18. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Yes it is. Since only OPS appears to matter to you, let's use that. Back to back .865 OPS seasons in 2008-2009. Whoopty-do. That's a nice OPS if you don't strikeout 400 times in a season and score a pathetic 55 runs. Sure seemed to most of us that Big Jim was trending down pretty hard after the first 2 seasons. Why on earth would you simply average his 4 seasons to determine if he should come back? The trend said he was in sharp decline. Plus our team was what, 3rd to last in 2009 runs scored? I blame that on station to station baseball, a.k.a. White Sox Baseball post 2005, and I was sick of it. So was Ozzie. I'm not happy with Kotsay either but I sure didn't want that wastepit known as Jim Thome back. He just kills momentum like it's his job. Great to have somebody remind us of what actually was happening on this board. Thome was getting reamed and the Sox reamed for station to station baseball. But it still all comes back to Ozzie anyway. He wanted Kotsay and for that the Oz haters will never forgive him til the day he is sxpunged from their lives and becomes Florida's manager where he will excel as he did here.
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) I thought they rushed him back a tad too early myself. Like fathom said...his swing has looked pretty feeble the past few days. Why play him if he can't swing the bat. I have no problem with Omar manning 2B for as long as he needs to. Personally against Beckett, Ozzie should have gone Omar at 2B and Teahen at 3B anyway... Omar second. Viciedo third, not Teahen please.
  20. I love Viciedo, but I've been scared when somebody said his upside could be that of Uribe. Maybe Manny can help him. Manny seems to be a free swinger as well, who is not allergic to walking once in a while.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) You're right, he's been worse. His blown save in the first Twins series after the ASB seemed to change the entire momentum of the season for the Twins. Also, his inability to stay healthy during the 2nd half of the season led to the increased usage of Thornton and Putz, which could have contributed to their ineffectiveness and injuries. Let's just hope Sale manages to stay healthy and avoids a serious injury. I disagree fully. The other Sox "closers" have imploded as well, giving me the impression they'd have blown a s***load of games before losing the job themselves. I stand by giving Jenks a C or B-. You seriously think Putz can close regularly? Or Thornton? Or Sale? Sale is the new flavor. Maybe he will be dominant for 10 years like Rivera. We shall see. I love his stuff. I hope he dominates forever. I stand by my rating of Bobby Jenks. I disagree on the momentum of the season crap. As a Sox fan my whole life I've heard about the game that turned around the momentum of our season for the worst. That's been a staple of being a Sox fan, at least in my lifetime of being a fan. Always the lousy shocking loss that killed our season or propelled some other team to the title. The year we won it all? There was no f***ing momentum of the season, either. We almost blew the title in the last few weeks of the regular season. Roberts hitting the ball into orbit was no different from any other Sox implosion. They all suck. Minnesota didn't need that exciting win to magically make the Twins amazing. They've been good for oh, about 10 years now.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) Greg got mad and up in arms because people were booing him when he was having the bad year. Greg cannot accept that a player can be booed, because this must mean that the boo-er is saying that they hate the player, not the performance. Hence, everyone on Soxtalk "brutalized" Konerko except for greg. Yeah I remembered he got the harsh treatment on here.
  23. Was it two years ago or 3? I forget. Konerko was brutalized on here. I stood up for him like I did Dye last year and Jenks this year. People wanted him out. It was that one season where he had a bad second half I think. It must have been 07. People on here don't really take injuries into account if you are still playing.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) This is the equal to 27 out of 31 for Bobby Jenks. I'd still give Bobby a C or B- for the season. He's not been as bad as some say.
  25. Actually the Ozzie haters might hope Thome does brutalize us and we still win the three games. Ozzie seems pretty sensitive over the Thome issue and he might have a blowup of epic proportions in the media if Thome has 3 big games and he keeps getting asked about it. When Oz blows up, there's always the risk he'll do something that'll finally get him fired which would please oh, so many on here for some reason.
