  1. I hate it as well. It's the nature of being a closer and being chubby/fat. People don't like Bobby. I do. I think he's been excellent and was glad to see him do well tonight. He threw strikes for the most part and our third baseman and shortstop were great behind him.
  2. I may change my mind tomorrow, but I could live with Jones playing right field and CQ DHing the rest of the way. Jones is a better option than Kotsay in the lineup (I think).
  3. Interesting line in that horrible piece. Yes, the manager always gets the blame in 2010.
  4. Are you guys worried? I keep hearing on the radio here the Royals are gonna trade DeJesus and soon. KW will vastly overpay for just a good ballplayer who is not excellent. Are you worried?
  5. I agree KW should not go all in. We are pretty much overachieving right now. We need Dayan/Beckham/Flowers/Hudson for the future. Without Peavy, like you said, I'd rather just take our chances. s***, I hate Jones, but play him every day (did I say that?) and maybe he'll hit 10-15 homers the rest of the way while whiffing at all the other at bats. I keep hearing DeJesus is gonna get dealt, so look for us to overpay for him. Yuk.
  6. In answer to your question, Yes yes yes Kenny should dare to consider the trade. Dump that salary. We don't need Mark Teahen. Detroit is not going to win the division. Minnie will win it if we don't. Dump Teahen on the Tigers. Now!
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) I think a lot of what is going on right now is just posturing. The big demand from Rizzo on Dunn could come down in the final days. Kenny will do something, and I don't think he'll do anything that would be considered overpaying. Yeah but trading Dayan and/or Flowers and Hudson might be depressing.
  8. I stand by what Greg Hibbard wrote.
  9. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) I know this is low-hanging fruit, but just yesterday our season was OVER! and that loss to Minnesota was going to be the END of us, dammit! So much for that idea. I know and Jones should be released ... and he hits that massive bomb. And Beckham, who many wanted sent down, and if he was sent down would still be in the minors, is red hot and now should be moved up in the order. On and on. Message boards are funny. Not saying I'm not guilty as well, but the team's popularity and guys' popularity are for the most part, day to day.
  10. I'd move him just to show the Sox aren't afraid to make changes. s***, standing completely pat is not a good idea the rest of the way.
  11. Please respond to Greg Hibbard's post indicating just how not-so-bad Bobby has been this season.
  12. He's hitting so well we should move him up. Why not? It's not like we have to keep him so low for some superstitious reason.
  13. Did you read Hibbard's thread on Jenks? He's been excellent overall.
  14. I just think on paper they are better. I should have said that. The loss of Peavy is huge. If he's the Peavy of the last few outings, we had a rotation to boast about. Now two of the five are gutsy Freddy and the unknown Hudson to go with the dependables. Juan and Omar are still old and a fairly weak 1-2 punch. AJ looks like he is going to continue having his off year at the plate. Kotsay/Jones still isn't a very good option. I think our winning formula is great (pitching), but on paper, I think we're apt to have as rotten a September as we did April/May. Hope I'm wrong again.
  15. I wouldn't call Jenks barely a mediocre closer. And if he fails 2-3 in a row we can turn to Thornton or Putz to close. If we got Soria, it's obivous we'd trade Jenks to the Phillies.
  16. Hibbard is poster of the year. The closer will always get the wrath of the fan when he blows a save, hence the greatest sports saying of all time, "JUST WIN BABY."
  17. No way? They'll be in it the whole way. They have a better team than the Sox and Detroit and they still have the magic for some reason (until they play the Spankees and lose in the first round again).
  18. I'm thinking for Soria and DeJesus, who pretty much are two of their three best hitters, they need to try to rob the Sox, especially with their fan base out of patience (almost). I'd say Flowers, Dayan would be demanded then probably three other promising prospects. I consider Flowers and Dayan major leaguers already. Soria obviously would become the closer, then we would trade Bobby in another deal.
  19. What would you be willing to give up for DeJesus and Soria? That was the postgame call in show rumor out here, that KC may deal them to the Sox. KC would demand Flowers. What else would you be willing to give up? I think they'll try to rob us blind of 4-5 prospects, maybe even Viciedo with Flowers and 2-3 more.
  20. BearSox, have you lost your mind? This is cliche stuff like out of that baseball movie. He gave DULL COMMENTS. What's he supposed to say. "I apologize to all of Chicago. Forgive me fans. I blew it and I cost us the game!" Take a valium. My god. Your reaction was insanity. Man I'm thankful I'm incapable of hating Bobby. If he loses his job eventually, fine. People need to get a grip (they won't though so I can continue laughing at your guys' rants when we lose).
  21. I kind of like closer by committee which requires a feel from the manager on who it should be that day. I thought Oz had the feel today when he let Freddy pitch the sixth despite giving up double digit hits through five. Thank god I had a commitment and could only watch the first seven innings. The ninth had to be sick. It amazes me how this division has been the same story every year. The Twins won't ever go away and just have a s*** season.
  22. Now that's a good thread post. I can't argue with that reasonable post. Do you honestly expect our closer, whomever it may be, to save every game? I'm at the point I hope they replace Fat Bobby just so you all will be happy. But I'll never bury him. He's done a good job in helping us get back in the race. Today was really unfortunate. He also was lights out before having to take time off for the family emergency. I'd think after today it'll be closer by committee for a while again.
  23. Looks like this isn't the year we turn around the Minnie jinx. Without Morneau we get one of four? Yuk.
  24. Good point. I do like him a lot, though. Love may be too strong.
  25. Check my posts. I said you'd all have a meltdown when he finally blew one. After giving him little credit when he was nasty recently. What have you done for me lately, baby?
