  1. How bout deleting the thread. Drug allegations? Not classy. Certainly not worthy of soxtalk. It's not our place to spread rumors about drug use. Bad form. Not classy. Don't believe it. Give Oney a break. Kill that post.
  2. Great post. AJP is one of those guys on my list of guys I'll never be critical of because of the thrills he's given me. Some Sox won my support forever for what they've done: In my book those players include AJ, Paulie, Pods, Mark, Dye, Bobby just to name a few.
  3. I also can't remember names. I try to write them down and then associate the people with people on TV or in the past. If you repeat the name right away and try to do that, it helps. Without writing it down, though, I've got no chance, and you can't write it down until the person turns around or something. Chicago high school basketball is amazing. It's so easy to win state in many states. In Chicago it's so tough just to get down state. As a Benet grad I would take just getting down state. Benet hoops has sucked for 20 years.
  4. Pierre is no Pods. He will be buried far worse than fans buried Pods on here and at the games. I predict boos for Pierre.
  5. I probably shouldn't stereotype people, but I know a lot of people who tried twitter and tired of it quickly. A lot of coaches were gung ho in starting it and the tweets tailed off dramatically after a month max. And I've noticed that people with a lotta time on their hands tend to think it's amazing. To each his/her own I guess on twitter.
  6. Do you guys follow high school basketball? Can Benet give Simeon a game and advance?
  7. This is what usually happens to people with a brain. The twitter thing grows old quickly. Celebrities (actors, thinktankers in the workplace, etc) seem to love it because they have nothing better to do all day. Check the people who have brains and their twitter sites. They post a lot quickly then it really dies down fast. Or they might post a few things at the end of the day or something when they are are vegging out watching TV or something.
  8. I'll be honest. I don't know what the word means. I'd say Rios was the most reviled in the offseason Hats off to him if he's doing great this spring. If reviled is something good, then I'd say Beckham. I have great hopes for him being our stud. And a healthy CQ.
  9. How's he looking this spring? The money thing always amazes me in baseball. Teams play guys and keep guys cause they make a lot of money. And the LOSE GAMES because of this and ultimately lose money. If a guy sucks put him in the Carrasco role of last year. Long long relief or send him down. That's what they do in the NFL. They cut your ass. Player keeps the bonus money but not the yearly contract money.
  10. I think Ozzie has enough avenues to talk. Why did he want his own webpage? We got him on Twitter, what more do we need? Good article, though. Oz obviously always has Kenny on his toes with his penchant to talk/write.
  11. Isn't Nix a halfway decent sub? It's Nix.
  12. He probably hates speaking in public. Or maybe has speech impediment. Who knows? He's definitely had an excellent career, but I don't really care we didn't get him. Never been a huge Damon guy probably because of his arm.
  13. Great post. Good observation.
  14. That's kinda funny and a great point. I hated seeing station to station baseball in games where we didn't score much, but certainly loved it when we were bashing homer after home. Just win, baby.
  15. Good post. I disagree with some of it, but I think it is a solid argument. Great stuff.
  16. Can Cabrera hit? I'm serious. Is he capable of pulling an Ankiel and switching? Or turning to basketball? I'm rooting for him, but he does seem like a pile of suck. I still say somebody like Nolan Ryan could make a fortune tutoring ultra tall pitchers, many of whom can't seem to find the strike zone. Of course Ryan doesn't need the cash.
  17. I didn't know Torres was still with the Sox. Is he gonna make the bullpen?
  18. That Dye story in the Sun Times basically quotes Jermaine as saying he expects to be paid the same as he was in his prime and he wants to be guaranteed a starting job in the outfield as he was in his prime. He wants the job given to him. He doesn't want to have to compete for it (though I'm sure he'd work hard as he ever has if a job was handed to him, I won't doubt that). Interesting dilemma if that's the right word. He won't adjust at all to the marketplace and won't adjust his mindset to competing for a job (hell if he hit the s*** out of the ball he could have forced Anaheim or Toronto to give him all the bats he wants) so he's out of a job. I guess it's all in Jermaine's court, if it's not too late. He won't be joining a team on his terms. If he'd have settled for 3 mill a year like the Cubs offered, he'd have had a job a long time ago and then he could have tried to beat out the other Scrub outfielders. But his mindset from reading the article is that he shouldn't have to beat anybody out. Jermaine needs a good talking to or he's done at 36. Times change, Jermaine. Don't be the stereotypical spoiled jock.
  19. Ranger you should come up with a secret codeword that all soxtalk fans can use when they call your show after games. Or not.
  20. I was just wondering what you all think. I know spring training is totally meaningless and all that. (But) when a player reaches a certain age or has something major to prove, can you learn anything or project anything from the upcoming plethora of spring training games and at bats? Will we learn anything at all about oldies Jones, Omar, Kotsay in whether they still have "it." Or will their at bats mean nothing? And Teahen. And Rios. Or are all their upcoming at bats meaningless cause it's spring training. Just wondering. I know young guys are sometimes judged on whether they are "ready" by spring training. What about vets? If I had to guess, the at bats are meaningless, but for some reason this was on my mind. Wondering whether scouts, Oz and Ken can tell anything about a batter's likelihood of success from extended spring training appearances. The reason I ask is if they are sure, say a Jones, will suck, why would they bring him North?
  21. I'm not saying Crede had a good year, he didn't, but this was a pretty epic moment for him I'm sure. Wikipedia. Who's gonna sign Joe for this year? Anybody? He should get MLB minimum salary plus a ton of incentives.
  22. I'd agree. If he couldn't throw strikes as a starter, I don't like his odds any better as a reliever. I wonder if they can teach him to just throw out of the stretch and try to develop some control. Isn't he a clone of MacDougal?
  23. That does make sense. KW may have pursued some bats as well.
  24. I really don't know too much what you are talking about. You mention my pessimism and burying our players. When I think of these guys I have positive thoughts. Do you want me to praise them on here? I will: I have positive thoughts of Lexi, Beckham, Paulie in the infield (I have negative thoughts about Teahen; I am neutral about Nix and Kotsay, leaning toward being negative toward Omar). I have positive feelings about CQ in the outfield, negative thoughts about Rios and Pierre. I'm willing to wait and see on Rios and Pierre this season. It's not like I want them to suck. I have positive feelings about AJP; negative about Castro. I have positive feeligs toward Mark, Peavy, Danks Floyd and Freddy; positive feelings toward Bobby and Thornton and Hudson; negative toward Linebrink, Randy Williams and any ex Royals relievers still on the roster. I like Oz and KW. Yes, I love the guys who departed: Dye, Crede, Thome, Pods. I am not a big fan of Getz, Fields or Brian Anderson. I like most of our players and am rooting for them all out of the gates this season. I didn't read your sarcasm, sorry about that.
  25. Interesting they keep trying to get stud starters, but like some have said, what's the aversion to improving the lineup? I guess KW and Oz can say "I told you so" if and when Omar, Rios, Pierre, Kotsay and Jones excel this year.
