Sox @ Dodgers Game 2 Floyd vs Stults 9:10
greg775 replied to letsgoarow's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Yeah, it sure is a funny game. The Royals simply had to take the field to get an 'L' a couple weeks ago. Automatic Ls. Now they are hot and only 7 out after tonight. I think you are right about the offense being flawed. It's based solely on home runs and we hit a lot of them but when we don't hit them pencil in the L. Of course I think it's 8 times now we got zero runs. That's pathetic beyond belief the amount of nights we get completely shut down. Bye bye first place. -

I have to agree. What a pathetic inning. Stultz officially has emerged tonight as the best pitcher in the league again, the talk of the league tonight because of our team. Seven shutout innings for this guy so far?? Congrats Sox, you made another unproven pitcher look like a phenom tonight. Wow. Hope we can pull out the rubber game tomorrow. 2-1 would be OK obviously. 1-2 would be bad heading into Cub Series Part II -

I didn't see the bat, but why fly out as the leadoff hitter? Chop a single somewhere like good leadoff hitters do in a 5-0 game. -

Get on base, Mr. .236 hitter. -

Getting out of a jam like that would ignite a non-dysfunctional team. Can we get a rally going?? Or is this pitcher going to continue to resemble Sandy K? Great job minimizing the damage that inning, Sox. Can you wake up now? Or is this game ova? -

Everything was looking so great 2 weeks ago; Oz laughing, team loose, Swish and OC heating up. Now we truly suck again. -

Yeah but you have to give them (Twins) credit for bouncing back after the Sox kicked their ass. I mean those games were bloody bad for the Twins and here they are responding. Hope our team gets out of this funk before long. Like many have said it's not going to get easier anytime soon. We need Paulie and Thome back. Yes we do. -

The Twins are amazing. Just when it looked like we buried them they are unstoppable. I don't get the game here tonight. Is it this pitcher or our typically bizarre offense having one of those nights ... again? -
Thanks chw I missed the sarcasm meter that time. Hope Wise rides the hot streak tonight.

Mark Buehrle is easy to like. He shuts up when he sucks and just blames himself. He's pretty modest when he wins. He handles controversy well like people being mad he wore a Cardinals hat once as if that was some big crime. He's been great as a White Sox.
-
No reason to bash him after he gets 3 hits versus the Dodgers helping us halt our nine game road losing streak. Nothing let appreciating a guy for a positive effort. Enjoy the moment. It was a nice win after the tank job versus the Cubs. You said: Anybody who would take crap from Cubs fans deserves every word of it they hear. Cub fans have no reason to talk s*** ever, and any self respecting Sox fan knows what to say to shut them up, even the dumb ones. Wow somebody is in a bad mood today. Ouch.
-
Fair enough, White Sox. But I think we know all games count the same. I won't apologize for desperately wanting to fare well against the Cubs. If you told me we can go 0-6 versus them and win the division, I'd say bring on the 0-6. You can't guarantee that however. All games count the same but when we're playing the Cubs I don't think it's unreasonable for people to realize many Sox fans badly want to beat them like Baltimore had no problem doing tonight.

Tony, some of us don't like losing to the f***ing Cubs? You can't understand that? If not, why not? It's going to be the same next weekend for many of us. We are going to want wins desperately and will be elated if we win and pissed as hell if we tank again like last weekend. Nice win tonight. Mark B more often than not is a stud. Dye will probably be our lone all-star since we'll get jobbed of two guys unless Bobby makes it. Man, is Wise a decent player after all? Didn't see the game on TV here. Does he have a true clue at the plate? Crede's back flares up, yuk. Is Josh healthy yet? Could be DL time for Joe or not? So nice to halt for now the road losing streak and win so soon after the Cub debacle. GO SOXX!

Yankees, Red sox, Mets, Cubs, dull game as usual.
-
Yes but Robin is not in chicago right now, he's managing in Peoria or somewhere. I think he wanted me to admit the Cubs third baseman was better than my Crede and I just rattled off some third basemen currently in Chicago.
-
Honestly? The best is Ron Santo. Second best is Bill Melton. Third best is that guy on the current Cub team. Fourth is Joe Crede. Fifth is me. I played third base in Mt. Greenwood Little League and my manager can attest no balls got by me.

The Shrine? Why don't they treat it that way?

I was a fan of both teams as a little kid up to when we moved to suburbia as a teen because my grandfather was a Cub fan and took me to Cub games and it was fun going with him, just him and me. I liked buying the scorecards and pencil at Wrigley and some peanuts and enjoying baseball. It was amazing battling the sellout crowds. We always had Sox season tickets though and I went to more Sox games and always liked the Sox better. We kept the Sox tickets, went to college and ultimately upon returning in summers went to 30 Sox games, no Cub games and became die hard Sox fan. Started to feel apathy for Cubs, just didn't care how they did; cared greatly how Sox did. -
If this was our ballpark, he'd want it torn down and merely keep mentioning the fallen concrete of a few years ago and wondering when somebody will be killed cause of our dump of a park. I wonder. ... Will he blast Piniella at the Cubs' first sign of choking? Will he write just as reactionary a column if somehow we were to kick the Cubs' ass in the Cell? Will he write columns in September if the Cubs' lead starts to dwindle reminding them of 1969, etc? Will be blast Lou if for some reason the Sox outmaneuver him next weekend in a 2-1 game or something. We shall see. He's lost all shock value like somebody on here said. Cause it's the same tired rips of the Sox. Oz, KW, Jerry. Just rotate the three when he writes his column. I think even he knows he can't praise Lou TOO much cause he's going to need to blast him with his stereotypical columns if the Cubs struggle during the playoffs again. How can a newspaper guy not love Guillen? He sells papers himself with his wild quotes every week. Jay has personal vendetta and should not be allowed to write about the Sox. How can anybody argue with that? And don't say don't read him. I skim him to see if he has any new take worth looking at. I laugh when it's the same column again.

I have let ARow go. I just was reminded of him cause he hit well against the Royals here last weekend. I like BA sort of. So far I don't like Swish.
-
What's with the love for Masset? The guy I saw gave up a run in two innings vs. the Cubs or was it less than 2 innings and he pitched awful to his last two batters, steering the ball outside like he was scared. Yuk on Masset. Go Javy.
-
At least he hit it off the wall. He's shown some ability. I can't help it, despite the numbers the stat people on here throw out, from what I've seen I can't hop aboard the Swish bandwagon yet. Dare I compare him to my favorite Rowand? I better not start that up. Go BA! Keep improving!

Great post and good job Spat with the arrest story. That is so lame drenching that woman with beer. Ridiculous. Nobody goes to the park and pays the big bucks to get drenched. What a great tradition to throw beer on the shrine field after the win. Stupid drunks. -
What if that shot he hit off the wall vs. the Cubs would have been a homer or if he'd stretched it to a triple and scored? He'd have been one of our few bright spots in the Cub flameout. To those who hate Anderson I say ... do you also hate Swisher? Swisher has sucked. Oh wait, Swisher draws walks, I forgot. Swisher never gets a key hit, but some love him and hate BA who appears to be eons better than a year ago.
-
If the Cubs are that special, they'll kill us again next weekend. We shall see. I agree they are very good, but don't forget they've not been so great on the road lately. If they pick up Sabathia look out. It's a marathon though. I really thought after the Rays series they might come back to Brewer, Cardinal status. We shall see.
-
I don't think they looked better in game one of the series. I disagree. Danks had their number; Oz panicked and took him out of the game. And our hitters failed miserably to build on the lead. Cubs were not better that day; we choked that one away on the field and in the dugout.
