Amazing what a little pitching will do for ya. Even though the bats have been great, too, it's all about our starters. -
White Sox @ Fenway vs Boston Sept 6th 2006 game thread

Since we're winning big tonight and since we seem to rate Ozzie's performance as horses*** every night we lose ... would you detractors say Ozzie did a good to great job tonight?? -
Let me try one more thing on you before I give up my pro-Ozzie rants on this board: You Ozzie haters (even though he led us to our only World Series since tickets to white Sox games were under $1 dollar. ... Since gas cost about .25 a gallon ... Being that Ozzie is very very young for a manager, and being that he has a World Series title to his credit ... are you willing to give him some time on the job to mature. I mean think how f***ing good this guy may be from 50 to 60??? Or do you hate him so much you must have him fired now? I mean I love Oz but even I admit he makes mistakes. But again with his resume 43 years old or whatever he is and a World Series title already in the bag, would you let him do any learning on the job or must you have him fired to enjoy the team again??
-
I want(ed) Pods to start because of potentially what he brings to the team when he gets his head out of his ass. You've got to admit. The Pods of last year is what our lineup desperately has needed and missed. The fact he is the same guy made me believe he'd turn it around so YES I've wanted him in the lineup over Mack or Ozuna or Gload. Uribe I think has hurt our lineup a lot this year, but my opinion on him changed when somebody on here reminded me he is a great great defender. I think I am more like Oz in being more apt to not want an unproven guy to play over a proven guy.
-
I hope you are right. Anderson could be like Crede and Garland. It just takes time. But for a team trying to win it all, he has not been a great option this year. I realize his defense is great. Personally I like the guy's hustle and great defense and realize he's hitting way better the last few months. But he did not deserve to play everyday this year.
-
The point may be many of you love BA because the other option is s***ty Mack. Could it be KW erred big time in giving Oz no other option like ROWAND???
-
C'mon don't pile on. I said I thought Guiel might have been a good pickup in retrospect and somebody pointed out Clark would have been a better option and I agreed with that. I have watched Guiel play a lot for the Royals and like his style of play and thought in retrospect he might be a good option if Oz isn't gonna play BA everday, which he won't do. The Clark option made sense and I said that yesterday.

Please don't call the team lucky because of the AJ play. You know as well as I do baseball is a game of inches and breaks. C'mon. You aren't calling our Sox lucky champs. If we didn't win it all, I guess I wouldn't be as high on Oz, though I'd like to think just making the Series would have made me think he was a pretty damn good manager. We could all write essays on why we think Oz is great or sucks. If you want me to answer any specific reasons I think he's good, fire away. I want to know if the majority of Sox fans think Oz sucks or just the majority on here.
-
Name a better manager than Oz in Chicago baseball history. I'll take the guy with the ring.
-
I mean I want BA to succeed and hope he is our everday center fielder, but I can see where Oz is coming from. As manager he had to be pissed at his piss poor first couple months. An automatic out in that span and without great speed, at least he hasn't run yet. As far as defending Oz I think he is the best manager in Chicago baseball history because he is the first to lead us to a title since the dark ages. Al Lopez didn't win it all. Neither did Durocher. Neither did Tanner. Oz did. I realize his putting Mack in cf has hurt us in a lot of games. But is that all on Oz? What options does he have, considering as manager he does not want Anderson out there every day. I just think his players are letting him down. If they have quit on him, I guess he deserves to be fired. I don't see why they'd quit on him considering he's regarded as a "player's manager." You know his not playing BA everyday and the decision to use McCarthy in pen was not all on Oz. It's KW who acquired Vas, necessitating the move to the pen.
-
Why don't we just let Anderson and McCarthy take the field every day considering the man crushes so many Sox fans on this board have for both. Play 2 against 9.
-
How can you hate the one guy who brought us a world championship. I love the guy. He is the best manager in baseball bar none and the best in Chicago history. He brought us a title. I'm glad he's not sold on Anderson. I can't believe how much people on the Internet love a .240 hitter. Wow he's hit .300 since the break. Great. He's a .240 hitter. What did Oz say that was so bad. The guy has to prove he's an everyday player. And Juan Pierre sucks!
-
I hope he'll do a good job as a starter next year. There are no guarantees. I just get sick of many giving him a free pass because of how he's been "misused." I don't care about that. Like you said he entered the game and seconds later we suffer a huge defeat. Our pen is in a bad stretch. Thornton and MacD lose games against the Twins then this crap from BMac.
-
As far as a ludicrous thread or topic. Answer me this. Say we rally and win the wild card and then make it to the World Series. In that case would you approve a lifetime contract for Ozzie? Would the final result ... another Series berth make you go over the edge and want Oz to be our skipper for all time?? Or would you still be upset with him and his playing Mack in cf, and all the other complaints?
-
Thanks Tony. I like these stats. How many walks? WPs and hit batsmen? And how many blown leads by Mac and Thornton please. I'll trust you that Thornton, MacD and Bobby are good relievers I guess. Cause they are gonna be our big 3 again next year obviously.
-
How can you not like this guy? Great comments in Sun Times by Oz.
-
Rather than get mad, why not educate me on what makes Thornton good? When he comes in, I see a tall lefty ready to implode. Educate me. I am ready and willing to become a Thornton backer.
-
Good point on Brady Clark. I was just watching the Royals game and saw Guiel was 2-2 for the Yanquis and it made me realize how much I liked him as a player in KC. Hindsight being 20-20, we really did need to make a move or moves at the trading deadline to spark us. Oh I forgot we did add MacDougal who I hated watching up close as a member of the Royals.
-
Noppe. Jenks did blow the game but he's been good all year, unlike Thornton, Cotts and MacD who I can't believe some are so infatuated with. And Jenks didn't completely blow it. He only gave up the one run. We still coulda won it, but nooooo BMac comes in and BAM! But he's being misused so he's getting a free pass from some.
-
My gawd, I love Frank as well but Thome hit the game tying homer tonight? He's been playing hurt. Thome ain't our problem ain't even close to being a problem. p.s. Flame me all you want, but Aaron Guiel might have been a nice pickup if KW and Oz felt they needed to platoon with BA.
-
It's not over til it's over. Cue Yogi Bear Berra and John Belushi speech please.
-
Lots of blame to the offense. Pathetic effort against that starter/reliever hack. It still woulda been nice to claim the 2-1 victory. Too bad we couldn't complete the deal. Walks always always are killers.
-
At least Brandon, if his career never takes off, can pin the blame on Ozzie if he wishes to do so. Poor ol Brandon is being misused as a reliever. Give me a break. Lots of pitchers have stepped up in their careers and done what is needed to do. Hope the kid has a long productive career as a starter, but the man has sucked of late and there is no assurance he'd have been a stud as a starter this year though I agree he's been misused by Oz and KW.
-
Bobby in ... Mr. Automatic blows a rare save opportunity. Brandon in ... Bomb. The man nobody criticizes gives up the game-winning bomb. We stink. Our bats are dead. We are snakebit. We remain a team in trouble. On to Game Two tomorrow.
