Cubkilla said: "All Ponson is is a fat Jon Garland. And in a perfect world, JG would be our #5 starter or (preferably) our long reliever..... not our #3. " Great line. I never thought of that, but I thorougly agree. I do not like Ponson. Why do we want him so bad? Are we never going to rest til we get Weaver and Ponson? I dislike both.

do you folks think uribe is a good player/hitter possibility or is he more similar to Caruso?
-
I think it's great that you folks who live in Chi are waiting to see who we acquire before ponying up the money. I mean times have changed. Loyalty means nothing. I say wait and see what product they are gonna put on the field. There's no reason we should be as cheap as the R's and Twins but we are. SELL THE TEAM DORK.
-
Isn't Benito Santiago something like 70 years old? Looks to me like the Royals and Twins aren't interested in winning anymore. If Reinsdork would suck it up and raise payroll 20 mill, we might win the division every year from now on. Question: WOuld an extra 20 mill result in so many extra tickets and concessions and parking, and merchandise sales, etc that it would be worth it even to Reinsdork?? I mean we could dominate this division if we spent some money which I realize we won't do with dork in charge.

It is great to read players posts! Chisoxfan ... Good point. It looks like Self has the team rolling, though the fifth starter broke his collarbone today. Self is a breath of fresh air though, very friendly, nice, approachable, in many ways different from the ex coach. I hope all scouts have a happy tgiving.

Anybody else get the feeling we will get off to another slow start again next year?

Unbelievable story. Happy thanksgiving everyone.

Why does Valentin play so much ball? Why doesn't he rest one winter.

I wonder what Garland's story in life is. Does he have a dad? A former coach? Somebody who could take him under his wing and light some incredible fire? It's obvious he is a talented pitcher who needs some work upstairs. I could be off base but reading between the lines I bet he is one of those guys players like Pudge Fisk hated. Ones who don't want advice. Garland is a stud who needs some pitching coach/authority figure to get him to want it. Or perhaps I don' t know what the f*** I'm talking about, but it's a theory, anyway.

great post, yasny. I agree.

You said: "He's a guy that does NOT play all-out, plain and simple. I don't remember the last time I saw him beat out a ground ball. I don't think I ever have. Add to that that he is not a leader-type ballplayer, and that he does not seem to be a very marketable kind of guy, and you understand part of the intangibles that I see. Maggs is worth $8 mill a year, tops. Not $14-$15 mill." I am not saying you are lying, but I haven't heard a knock on maggs that he is a loafer or does not play all out. Do any of you others agree with this assertion that he is a bum? I think Maggs is a star and worth 14 mill. It's just that we can't and won't pay 14 mill. The Yankees would be smart to grab Maggs. Actually the Cubs would. Maggs would thrive in that ballpark. p.s. How many sluggers beat out ground balls???? I am just saying I haven't heard Maggs is heartless except on this board sometimes. I want a poll taken on here from you who see over 50 games a year. Tell me bout maggs.
-
Great point about baseball intangibles! I had started to waver about Maggs 'cause of some of the posts in here pointing out his statistical flaws. I respect most all of you and love the sabermetrical posts. But then I read Mariott's nice colm and he in a couple sentences described what Maggs truly is .... A GREAT f***ING BALLPLAYER!!!!!

If the Twins are dismantling, why don't we acquire some of those guys? -
Don't worry bout it. You do a great great job and this site is awesome. GO SOX.
-
No offense to Bart, but do any of you think he is just gonna get fatter and fatter? I liked his performance with our Sox, but I'd rather keep Maggs and go from there than keep Bart for big big bucks.
-
sorry bout that. It's suntimes.com and under the mariotti mug. it's a good story in my opin.

Reinsdork is cheap. I mean give me a break. We have had a good corps nuclueus for years and he won't spend the extra 20 or so mill to give us a champion. As far as Sox fans ... the last eight years of old Comiskey, they turned out in droves. Sox fans are not going to come (except for the great loyalists on here who I do respect for attending so many games) out in droves until we field a dominant team. GO SOX

Let's not get down on Ozzie, folks. Get down on Reinsdork if anybody. Ozzie will be fine if we have the talent. If we don't have the talent, we'll be .480 to .520 team again because our Sox don't try hard when we're not smoking the competition.
-
But Mariotti wrote a great great column on Maggs. It is f***ing ridiculous we are getting rid of Maggs. It is a joke if we rid ourselves of Maggs. I would rather have our team move than not have Maggs around next year. It just reminds me of everything that is wrong with baseball. Mariotti's column has all the right arguments. Let Maggs go at 34 or 35 if we must, not NOW!! Sell the team, Mr. Reinsdork. Please please please sell the team.
-
I will not comment any more about Maggs' trades. It depresses me too much. Whatever will be will be. I love the guy and want him to be a Soxxx forever, but if he must go, so be it I guess. The Yanks would be smart to grab him. He's gonna win some World Series' before he's done.
-
If he wants 7 million, bye bye. He wasn't that great for our Sox. Should we play Aaron every day??
-
I hope Oz knows where to cut his losses. If Willie can't hit, don't play him all of April and May as we drop, drop, drop in the standings. At least platoon him. We can't afford yet another horrific start.
-
Glad to see them fixing the park. You'd think if Reinsdork cares about using Cell One money to fix the park, he actually cares about the team and would pay to bring a winner here.
-
"As a lifelong, 21 year old White Sox fan, I am very concerned over the direction this team is going." -- No offense, but this is all you needed to say. Our team has never been going in the right direction under cheap management. We're trying to win it all with mirrors.
