Heard a lot of good things about Ted Lasso on Apple TV and this is a perfect weekend to binge watch a show. Since i like Sudeikis and actually saw him many years ago in Second City at the Las Vegas Flamingo before SNL, I bought apple TV membership. I wondered if anybody has seen the first season? I would give it a thumbs up. I'm torn right now between calling it just "darn good" or "life altering must see TV good." I have four episodes left in season one but I think I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. I hear the final episode of season one is really good so we'll see if I think it's a 5 out of 5. Do u folks like the show?
  2. You know, with the Sox having so many players capable of getting hot or not ... this might sound weird but I'm glad we have LaRussa here to sort it out. He is experienced and quite frankly will likely make the right decisions in the postseason. Again ... you've got Vaughn, Sheets, Collins, Burger, Sheets, Robert, Goodwin, Mendick, Engles of the world who could really be rotten or be great. I kinda trust Tony to figure it out. And the pitching! I trust him to figure out which of the many bodies are capable of getting hot vs. not thru the postseason.
  3. This is only his age 25 season. Burger is 25. this is Rutherford's age 24 season. Sheets is right in that age group to emerge as a productive big leaguer if that's in his future.
  4. Brett Phillips pitched tonight for the Rays and Toronto totally broke baseball's unwritten rules. Watch the inning. Toronto got one run and all the hitters were swinging so hard obviously trying to hit a home run. Bases were loaded at one point and the Jays were definitely trying to hit a grand slam up 11-1.
  5. I was very against the Burger selection in the draft. Hope I'm wrong. I will be the first to acknowledge the 'eye test' on Burger is sensational. He looks like one of those guys who is "hitterish" as Hawk would say. I thought that of Yermin, too, however. Just seems like Burger is a natural hitter to at least make contact. And Sheets? He looks like a star in the making like a lefthanded Dale Murphy. Again .,. so did Yermin. We.Shall.See. I'd think Sheets, Burger and Vaughn could sell some tickets to go with Eloy, Robert, Timmy, Moncada and Abreu.
  6. Stone was on fire tonight; what a great job as analyst. Are u folks sure they are broadcasting the games off TV? Damn I'd think that would be so difficult. Jason was right on top of all the exciting plays as if he were there.
  7. Can't help but be excited after that game. Vaughn's catch and blast; Sheets just pounding that high fastball, my gosh; Burger two hits (yeah the one was weird); Only gave up two runs. Who'd have thought coming into the year that on July 2 the heroes would be Andrew Vaughn, Goodwin and Sheets to go with Lynn. WOW. Very happy for Vaughn and Sheets. Hopefully they'll keep it up. Cmon Sheets, Yermin did it for six weeks; stay hot.
  8. That's a base hit by Burger in the old days. Shift got him. Easy DP.
  9. As much as I like the hire of Tony, I am sad/mad at what happened to Yermin, culminating in his being demoted. It looked like he was a lock to be an all-star. He was going to be the story of the season. Then Tony has to lay into him after he whacks 'the homer' off the position player. Tony picked the wrong kid to light up. He's been pathetic ever since and Tony is not a dummy. Deep down he has to feel some regret in his possibly ruining a guy's season if not career. Yermin has been abysmal since the national dressing down of Yermin. That said ... good luck Mr. Burger. Hit some bombs, baby.
  10. Yeah I must admit it infuriates me when ballplayers wont take the gift single.
  11. Don't forget we've been on the board a long time. Paulie got love after Sox won the title. He was despised by many before. I took a lot of grief for loving Paulie. I was glad at the end people universally liked him. Check the threads before the title.
  12. Oh i totally despised Rios. No doubt. I despised Dunn too I believe. I stood up for a lot of guys most notably Wise and Konerko.
  13. What's going on at the U of I? Kofi Cockburn to the transfer portal. Isn't he a true beast? Hasn't Underwood had a lot of deflections? Too many for such a good team? Are Illini fans OK with Underwood or is he a problem? Or is it normal roster movement?
  14. There have been so many and most mentioned in here. Has anyone mentioned Erstad? He stunk too. I've piled on several players in my time but also have stood up for some of those who were buried on here. Time flies and I forget some of my stronger stances. I know some of my most forceful posts were in defending guys like Garland and Wise.
  15. Great point. I was just thinking the kids at the mid-majors who are good nuff to help their teams win enough games to catch the interest of the community, still could hook up via NIL in those towns. But yes the Dukes and KU's and Carolinas could come poaching the starts of the mid major teams, sure.
  16. Nice win. Donaldson is a fool. Thanks for doing your part to fire up the Sox bats. Sheets looks good at the plate. ... Mercedes seems like he has fun playing baseball ... Abreu seems to be locked in (sort of). ... Grandal is valuable. ... Cease ain't half bad. ... Tony has had an excellent return to baseball, his only mistake the ridiculousness involving the Twins and Yermin which still angers me. ... Vaughn looks like he belongs despite the low BA. ... Sheets is very important to team's future. Would be nice if he's good.
  17. What are they doing??? Throw it on the concourse if you must. Why copy the Cubs? Keep the damn ball or throw it on concourse.
  18. I hope one Sox gets a bunt single and another homers to anger Tony. I mean the options are limited to not "show up" the 45 mph hack they put in. I guess line singles are OK as long as they don't beat the shift.
  19. When the Twins put in a position player to pitch how should Sox handle it? Just strike out?
  20. I was thinking, even some mid major kids could make some good money I'd think ... if that town loves its college teams. For instance, a Western Kentucky kid could get a ton of deals in Bowling Green. How bout kids who go to Bradley? Isn't Peoria crazy about its hoops? Or SIU if the Salukis get good again? Obviously kids at Kentucky will make a ton of $$ from NIL. But some small towns are awfully proud of their colleges and they have businesses there too that can get the players some good money. But like you said the kid has to be a decent player probably and the team has to be a winner.
  21. I was thinking, if the NCAA now is competing against the NBA, I would think the NBA would win. Though I don't watch a lot of NBA the players obviously are the elite of the elite compared to college guys. I think most people though would agree the NCAA athletes deserve a piece of the pie. Coaches make 5-8 million a year; the players now have the right to make some deals for money.
  22. Let the man hit. Who cares if Sox might be "rushing" him? Sox need some pop. He might be good.
  23. I want Rutherford in the bigs.
  24. I was gonna say Fathom coulda hit those pitches like I used to post but thought better of it this time. But I thought that.
  25. Way to beat the shift. Players should do that every time vs the shift. No exceptions.
