  1. Jose had a big hit in the ninth, basically assured the win. Yermin shrugged off the 0-for-25 and slugged the single to win it. People freaking out when Sox blew the big lead should have relaxed. Sox still were in good shape one down in the seventh. Guys who had some screw ups made up for them late. Nice win overall.
  2. Stuff happens. jose f'ed up. So what. We're still probably going to win.
  3. I haven't studied the minor league roster. Frankly anybody 23 to 26 years old who has a chance.
  4. By the way, Sox still might win this game.
  5. Oops we got the bad Marshall tonight. Just cut him. He's not a useful big leaguer. I know ... certain nights he can eat an inning or two but he blows. Can anybody be in favor of keeping Marshall?
  6. Is Gavin Sheets a top prospect? Is baseball high on him?
  7. Yeah it was called the Boys Benefit game with all proceeds going to charity. It rotated from Wrigley to Comiskey year to year. The teams traditionally tried to win and played their starters, then the last several years it got ruined. GMs pitched their top minor league prosepect to see how he'd do in a full stadium. Only a couple fan favorite starters would play and get one or two at bats. But before that, both teams tried to win the exhibition and it was a big deal.
  8. Is Jake Lamb a good hitter who had an unfortunate shoulder injury in 2017? I notice in his bio he was an all star one year and had good numbers in two years of his career. He really blasted that home run tonight. If he played every day would he produce?
  9. Now that I think about it you are probably right about the Royals. A rivalry like somebody said is when there is a buzz in the crowd and between fans and in the media. Remember when newspapers were a thing and there'd be page after page of Sox versus Cubs stuff? All over the sportscasts on chicago channel 9, 5 and 2? Folks, the Sox only rival is the Cubs even if one has to be cool and say the rivalry does not exist. Look at the all-time results in the series? Very close. Even when it was a once a year exhibition game it was huge until the clubs started to play their minor leaguers in the game. For a while, Sox vs. Cubs midseason exhibition game was a thing in which the guys on the big league roster played the whole game. Cubs Sox rivalry, yes. All other series, no. There may be deep concern for certain series against Central teams but a rivalry? No way. How bout a cheap ticket since they play those teams 19 times a year. Just my take.
  10. I think charging five to seven bucks a pack or whatever it is (as well as not allowing people to smoke in bars anymore) pretty much stopped smoking in America. Yes you can outprice people. I don't know what chew costs, but it is so gross not too many people outside of ballplayers have that horrific habit IMO.
  11. Rivals: Cubs, Royals. During the entire Ned Yost era, the Royals really got up for the Sox, constantly throwing at our hitters and causing trouble. If Sox ever won first two games of a series, the beanballs were coming. It hasn't surfaced with Matheny so the rivalry appears to be cooling. Yost, however, was a pest. He threw at our guys a lot and remember how the Sox rarely responded? BTW, the Cubs are by far the Sox only true, true RIVAL. I would accept it if you tell me the Royals are not a rival, but I think they sort of are. Cubs are definitely a rival.
  12. He's one of my favorite players ever. He's not perfect but he's darn good. Think of how much worse our fave team would be without him in the lineup every day. Baseball is a tough sport. He could hit .125 in the playoffs and/or WS. Or he could be Mr. October/November. Who the hell knows? A lot of it in baseball is getting hot at the right time. And it sucks if you get cold in the postseason. Enjoy.
  13. Even if he was setting a bad example, all it takes is mom or dad to say, "Jose is great but he is making a mistaking chewing. It can really mess up your throat and your life. If you ever are offered chewing tobacco, son or daughter, say no, then inform me." So what if he chews? Doesn't mean others have to.
  14. I don't know about that. When Yermin was raking he seems to cover the plate so well and blast everything hard. I'd be surprised if he turns to crud. I feel for the guy cause he's been lousy since the incident in which he took too much heat for the alleged offense. I personally think he'll have a huge game very soon, like 3 HRs in a game or 7 RBI in a game or five hits in a game again or something.
  15. Geez, Ron your obsession about Jose is embarrassing. Truly your stance on Jose gives fans a bad name. Try to look at him big picture. If you are mad about the chewing tobacco, just ride that horse. You can continue to point out that's the reason you despise him if that is the reason. You don't need to be ultra critical of the player/hitter. It really truly does give fans a bad name. No reason to disparage the guy as a player. As ar as today, Stuff happens. He made the final out. Who cares? He's a very good baseball hitter and fielder. I'd give him an A and say he'd be a starter on every team or almost every team in MLB. Surprised you can't enjoy the Jose era on the southside. p.s. I love Yermin but isn't baseball strange? His BA is down to .304, which is still good but remember how long he was over .400? The regression to the mean has to happen for every player. I really do think hitting a baseball where they ain't is the hardest thing to do in sports. If I were a hitter, I'd rather figure a way to hit .350 with only 15 HRs and 80 RBIs than hit .275 with 47 HRs and 110 RBI cause it must be so frustrating to make an out. The sport is cruel to hitters. Excellence means failing seven of 10 times.
  16. The split is OK on the road obviously. Hopefully the injuries will lessen; already been horrible this season with guys missing time.
  17. Man, things are looking good after that great 4-game sweep. Today ... Madrigal! Nice triple when Sox needed it. Hamilton! Great pitching and setup and closing. Makes a big difference when starter can go 7. I know many of us were pissed after the Yankee series, but it's nice to win and Sox are doing a great job of it. I need to try to freak out less when things go bad like in the Yankee series. For this is a very good, not great, team. It's a well-run outfit that should be in contention all year, maybe even win the decision going away if the Indians start coming down to earth on the road?
  18. Yep. When the relievers have to cover two innings instead of four it's beautiful.
  19. Fans appreciate his speed, hustle, intangible smile. Kudos to him for bringing joy to his craft.
  20. He's made a couple maddening mistakes (like ALL managers do). Mysteriously Marshall has pitched better since the night I got so upset about Tony putting him in. As of now, I'd agree with Tannerfan. La Russa is doing a good job. Part of baseball is beating bad teams and somehow win when key guys get injured. Keep it up, Tony. Make some of us critics look dumb. Nice to win both games of the DH today. Negatives so far: Throwing Yermin under the bus. Conceding that one game by putting in Marshall. Positives: The team's record.
  21. And he was only a couple steps from first if he just jogged over there. First baseman simply was not thinking. Mental breakdown there. It happens but frankly it shouldn't. Just run back to first and step on the base, geez. What an all time blunder.
  22. Facebook is OK for family photos and updates; Yes some political loudmouths on there and some very rude people, but not "that" many cause family members usually come to the rescue to save family members unduly attacked. Twitter? Twitter is the scourge of the earth. People with fake names for the most part tearing apart those who tweet with their real names. Twitter is a bad, bad place with really no redeeming qualities. Oh it might be good to get a sports update as soon as it happens. Big deal. ESPN.com and mlb.com could serve that purpose. Twitter? Ouch! it's bad.
  23. great unis; won't they be uncomfortable when it's 90 to 100 degrees out?
