Disagree. It's a blatant violation of the Tony-supported unwritten rules.

This is why Tony should have resisted the temptation to return to the dugout at his age. Instead of the Hall of Fame, he's currently known as the defender of baseball's dumb unwritten rules at the expense of his own team. He almost has to freak out over what the Yankees did today in protecting the shutout or he looks even worse in protecting his own team and the unwritten rules. That was a direct violation of Tony's old school rules. Good luck dealing with this stuff, Tony.

The play at the plate is getting a lot of play on Twitter. Somebody better ask Tony about it. This is going to be just like the other incident.

Tony better knock down a Yankee tomorrow. Same situation. BTW, since when did baseball worry about this showing up the other team so much? Astros cheating scandal, pitchers putting substances on the ball, stealing signs, figuring out tipped pitches. It's all so stupid and inconsistent. But up 7-0 throw a guy out at the plate? Time for a HBP tomorrow and bench clearing brawl. Get ready for Sox starter to get ejected early. If not Sox look even more like patsies under Tony, only worried about the opponent's feelings, not their own.

At some point scouts have to determine how bad some of Sox relievers/players are and get rid of the ones who are independent league talents at best.

Sox bullpen definitely has some problems. Hendricks needs to be dominant from now on. And Tony has to find a way to reduce the number of relievers per game. If Tony has to use more than 2 relievers, certainly if he has to use 3, I am not a confident viewer. If Sox make a trade, they need to find somebody really reliable. I know Colome stinks now but the last couple years didn't he almost have a perfect ratio of saves vs blown saves? He hardly EVER had a blown save as I recall. Sox might have to trade 2 very very good prospects for a proven set up man.

Or pull a Costanza and do the opposite of what he's thinking will work.

Oh well, I'm over the loss now. Marshall did get out of the jam in the 8th I guess. Maybe he's worth keeping around. Bats were silent tonight and a triple play is really bad luck. I was really surprised and happy Sox won the final game of that Twins series after the happenings of Game 2. So maybe Sox will come back and win tomorrow. Oh well, I feel better after venting. I'm over it. Adios.

I agree with your premise. I just am one of those fans who is convinced certain players blow chunks. For me, that player is Marshall. No likey.

I was in my car listening on SIRIUS and the NYY announcer was quite animated screaming that Hamilton is in the game to run NOW. First pitch even, His color person agreed Hamilton was in to steal.

If you are Hahn, you should ask Tony politely why he had Marshall in the game when every Sox fan in America knew at that moment Sox would lose the game OR simply DFA Marshall and send Tony a text telling him Marshall is gone.

I'm just mad he had Marshall in the game. C'mon. Tony isn't a dumb guy and that's a ridiculous guy to have in there.
-
5/21 Chicago @ New York 6:05
I had just got in my car after leaving a store and when I heard Marshall was warming up in a 1-1 game I knew it was over. You don't put him in a tie game in Yankee Stadium. Remember this loss. It's one Tony simply conceded and I don't like that. Seriously, Marshall is an independent league pitcher at best.

With all due respect, pretend the bunt has been outlawed. Never ask for a bunt please. The bunt is a four-letter word. I hate it cause PLAYERS CAN'T BUNT.
-
5/21 Chicago @ New York 6:05
Sorry. Marshall is not useful. DFA candidate NOW! He's a guy you put in when down 6-0 or up 9-0, that's it. Get rid of him, Sox.

Was that Marshall in there? I just turned it on. I do not like Marshall. He's this year's version of Erstad for me. If Tony had Marshall in there, he was conceding the game. Sad.

Crazy thing about Tony controversy ... Sox have such a great record on the field considering a TON of injuries to key players. If he just shut up and stood by his players he'd be the toast of the town (no pun intended).

A Hall of Fame moment in soxtalk history. Congrats on the line.

I personally don't think Tony will ever survive this. He will be remembered as the old guy who threw his own player under the bus and didn't even condemn the other team throwing at his own player. Frankly it's sad and inexcusable that he has been "pro-Minnesota" in all this. Tony should step down over this. Or listen again to his statements about Yermin to be punished within the family and asked if he still stands by that. He's expressed no anger toward the Twins for throwing at Yermin even after baseball suspends the pitcher and manager. This needs one more follow up interview session, Tony being asked about the Twins suspensions. Has he commented yet??? Please step down Tony.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Our church passed new rules. Wat you think of them? I wish it'd open up more. -- We no longer have to sign up to say we're coming. -- We still have to wear masks. -- Still must social distance. -- We can now sing into our masks. No singing before. -- Not much had changed cause we gotta wear masks and gotta social distance (every other pew, three in a pew unless u in same family).

Somebody told u to keep working. Awful. I wish u could sue and win. That supervisor was wrong and out of line. Sad.

Nobody's responding to my comment about a batter actually doing the position player pitcher and the opposing team a favor by trying to hit homers only against position players no matter if it's 3-0 or 3-1. A pitcher could get killed on a smash up the middle on a 45 mph pitch. The uppercut is safe for the pitcher and good for the fans who like HRs. Besides the analysts only want HR or K to be the result on every at bat. So quit changing your minds, baseball. This 3-0 pitch unwritten rule may be the silliest of all. Tony might hit a player with a bat if he bunted to break up a no-hitter. That's such a no-no. ... Also stealing a base when u have a big lead. Tony will lambaste Timmy if he ever does that. ... Best post on here was Dick Allen saying the opponent should walk any hitter that gets the count to 3-0 off a position player pitcher. Put him on base to protect the oh-so-important unwritten rules.

LaRussa needs to watch that Sabathia response. Beautiful stuff.

Tony sure has a passion for this unwritten rule crap. I don't like it.

This is all so dumb. Just call the game off when the team puts a position player on the mound. Cause what Tony is advocating is suddenly not trying I guess out of compassion for the opponent. Weird. Or when a position player comes in to pitch, outlaw 3-0 counts. When it's 3-0, order the count now 3-1. I think that's the best solution yet. A 3-0 count automatically becomes 3-1 when a position player takes the mound.
