The fragility of some fans on this board recently...
Losing all four to KC was quite bad. I think a lot of us would have felt better, at least me, if after game four Ricky got fired or Hahn or Jerry announced a plan to sell the team. Just my take. I personally think we're going to continue to play this bad the rest of the way. The first half success is hard to explain. I think maybe Gio's success carried over a bit to our overall play. Right now, pretty much the whole team blows and Gio is average of late. I do concede it might be all TA's absence. Maybe like Stone said he's that important.

40 Man Trash
Can't argue with you. All those players are definitely no good, many so bad it's laughable.

Will you be mad if the Sox do not seriously try to move Abreu?
It's almost like some of u peeps want Jose to go oh-fer every single day to justify how he's no good. I really don't get it. On a team with so many baseball bums (in terms of performance not personality) Abreu actually is an all star. All I can do is shake my head and remind myself that poll on the board shows the overwhelming majority of fans on here like Jose. I don't know why you think it's odd some people are sentimental about Jose. Not everybody likes tanking and losing every year and he's actually been an all star caliber player. Oh well, Jose is kicking butt in the 2 polls so Sox fans on here do love him, many are just silent. I, of course, worship him in a baseball sense, not religious.

2019 MLB Catch All thread
Francona is such a stud. After Bauer's meltdown in which he threw the ball from the mound over the center field fence Sunday, Francona was caught screaming "what the fxxk is wrong with you?' And he pointed to the dugout for Bauer to get the hell off the mound. I always liked Francona. Wish he was our skipper. Maybe he'd kick some bleep with all this losing.

Covey Optioned
He was the bad Phil Humber. The good Phil Humber was Buehrle-esque from the right side.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Lot of people can't take the insanity of Twitter. I've heard Howard Stern say he was done with it quickly. It's a great idea but has added to the hatred of people for each other in our great country. Too easy to blast peeps.

Twins @ Sox 7/28
We need a do-over on the last 8 years and get owners and GMs to forget tanking ever existed as an idea. Oh if I were commish would I be penalizing teams for tanking.

Twins @ Sox 7/28
Wait til next year.

Twins @ Sox 7/28
Man, you took off early. Must really have been disgusting to watch.

Twins @ Sox 7/28
Anybody booing? Embarrassing a small market team like Minnie owns the Sox in its own park and that the Sox employ so many lousy players/pitchers.

Covey is a Pathetic Joke!!!
One definitely needs to make sure he's not pitching before you buy tickets and parking. Same with Detweiler and sometimes Nova. No fun to watch games you have no shot of winning.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Love your posts on this topic, Fan O'Faust. Abreu is one of my all time faves. Once the team gets buried I really don't care much about any player's stats the rest of the way. I'd like Abreu to keep hitting like first half Jose of course but in reality it means nothing. He's still a nice player. The team is what blows. Not Jose A.

Not many young ballplayers today will sniff the Hall of Fame. Pitchers have surgeries a lot more and wins and losses mean nothing anymore. There will be so little to judge them on compared to the guys already in there and their stats.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
How is he in homers and RBIs and runs scored? I happen to think he's an all-star and so do AL officials who put him there. Pay.The.Man. Ron whether you like it or not, intangibles are important in pursuit of division titles. Jose will be vital on and off the field. You advanced stat people seem to have no concern about intangibles like leadership. Why the hell then do guys like Belichick talk about those things all the time? You advanced stat lovers "seem" at least to me to want all young studs at every position on the field. For some reason you are OK with some older pitchers, which has never been explained to me. Pay.Jose.Please. Jerry and the partners shouldn't hoard all the cash during the rebuild. Hey Ron, answer this question: Why was Jose put on the all star team this year? I'll be interested to read your answer. Why was he an all star? We already had 2 others; they didn't need to put him on there.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Awesome. I love that tweet. Negatives are there EVERYDAY. Way to go, Stoney. This organization is one of the worst in professional sports, at least has one of the worst owners. That's not hyperbole. The WS saves Jerry's legacy and indeed it was a glorious season. If that's all we should expect then I'm wrong in my assertion. If one title per owner is indeed sufficient, my bad. I happen to believe it was all there on a platter for the Sox when they got put in this division many years ago. No rational explanation to not dominate that division of low payroll teams year in and out. Only a horrible owner could pull off being this bad in this division throughout his tenure. this team is not a small market team evidenced by the Forbes figures of the Sox worth. Shameful except for the glorious title season.

Sox interested in Edwin Diaz
Why not? The calendar moves quickly. Before you know it it'll be next season. If you can get this guy for nothing and get a veteran starter or two for nothing, with Robert and Collins up next season you ought to be able to contend in this division. Instead of trading Colome for nothing acquire this guy for nothing and you might have your bullpen set for next year. What prospects are you expecting to get? I think it makes sense, but I doubt this is happening. We aren't going to build to win next year and I know that. As it stands, we'll probably trade Colome and maybe Abreu and the way Jay is playing might get a very low level prospect for a team desperate for a veteran OF. I can pray Hahn actually is going to do this though with thoughts on next season. Just win baby.
-
Sox Interested in Marco Gonzales
These two reports suggest Hahn is sneakily considering building next year's team, now, which actually wouldn't be a bad idea rather than the traditional flip of Colome, Abreu, Jay and McCann to net more prospects. I'm not even including Bummer because he's not getting traded. Think about it if we acquire these two players we are said to be interested in, on paper next year's bullpen is set and we add a starter to the mix. I would love if Hahn was thinking about a contender next year! Please be true!
-
Teams are interested in Nova? Trade him!
I frankly think the fans are on the bottom of the list. Seriously. There used to be the feeling that the Sox had to stay better than the Cubs or certainly as good as the Cubs to avoid getting buried in publicity, etc. With the rise of TV contracts, and the fact they don't need good attendance to be worth what Forbes said they are worth, the front office simply does not care about the fan IMO. Because they are banking on what fans do: show up when the team gets good in droves. True, Cleveland has not ever gotten back the frenzy it had all those years when they sold out the stadium. But look at KC Royals. They went from 9,000 a game to every game a sellout during that short window when they got excellent. The fans don't matter in this equation at all, folks. When they build it back, they will come in droves.
-
Sox interested in Edwin Diaz
Diaz is a young closer, right? So he replaces Colome next year. He and Bummer head the bullpen with Colome flipped now. Or are the Sox actually building next year's division winning team now? Bullpen of Bummer in seventh, Diaz eighth and Colome ninth?

Hey I stood up for Moncada all last year when peeps said he was a bust. Or very concerned he was no good. It was obvious the umps put him thru hell and they'd start giving him the calls this season since he passed the test and never complained when umps rung him up on pitches outside the zone. I never jumped Moncada like some folks. I recognized talent. Now it's easy to love him. Don't forget how people on this board ripped him. Not everybody.

Hibbard comes through with the great post. Equity ... that's the word I've looked for. He has built up equity with greg. That's what I mean, folks. He can suck cause he has equity with me. Hibbard with the nice take.

I love Moncada as well. I love Eloy more.

Eloy is a different monster so to speak. Eloy is dangerous.

El Rockin u should write a mantra on how to be a good fan. I'd read it. I strive to be the fan elrockinMT is, but I get soooo mad at the team at times and especially Jerry and his partner$.

I hate to say 'who cares?' again, but I must. Sox are way way out of the race. I would just enjoy watching Abreu bat cause he's gonna break out of it again IMO. I happen to like the guy, so excuuuuuseeeeee meeeeeeeeee. He needs protection BTW. You try to bat with the protection he receives with Eloy gone. ...
