  1. Burger has a bruised heel now the last I read. You think he'll be playing soon? I'd think he's another serious injury away from about being finished. He has a lot to prove.
  2. Baseball certainly has an injury problem. I know some are fluke, but I got to thinking with all the crap Avi took ... Timmy is about to miss six weeks or so minimum, all our pitcher injuries. Avi's injuries were just par for the course in Sox baseball. Who isn't getting hurt? And reputations are built so quickly. Let's say Timmy is out til the third week of August and we're so far out of the race he plays sparingly if at all the rest of the season. Then lets say heaven forbid he gets hurt next May or June. Will suddenly he have the injury tag that Avi had with Sox fans?
  3. Well, this is it for Palka. His last chance. I don't know why the anti Palka people care? This is what most of the rebuild people want, to take a look at guys and in the process we find out if the guy can hit. If he can, add him to the core. If he can't, we lose and get a better draft pick. Who cares about defense? The Sox sure don't so why should you?
  4. Thing is what if we never have a great young roster because of our first rounders not being that good? I'm just saying that at this time we may still be a ton of players short of being a contender. Sox are weak in so many areas. Are Cease and Gio enough for a good starting rotation? Are Eloy, Moncada, Tim, Robert, Madrigal and Burger enough? At least my way we had our chances to win divisions, we just didn't ultimately ever get it done after 05 because of the same front office refusal to add to the core to make sure it won a few more division titles at the minimum. You guys are trusting our Front Office a lot. I'm not sure we'll ever have a "great young roster."
  5. My biggest "only" problem with the board (I respect the owner and mods for their efforts and time) is a.) modern fans who hate on their own. Hate may be too strong a word but I feel like if a player has a 3-4 year history of goodness to excellence with your team, you should always want to keep the guy and give the guy a break when struggling (Abreu, Konerko, Jenks, Dye, Ozzie, guys I've gotten in fights over). b.) The dismissal of RBI, HR, Wins, Saves, Losses. I could accept this if the fricking big league announcers didn't use these stats but they do!! They are vital in every broadcast of every team. And yet you cite them on a message board and you are ... buried! c.) The failure of the younger posters to understand why some of us don't give a flip about the draft and simply want to win every game we play. To me there's nothing like being in the race even if the team ultimately flops in September or late August. Throwing away seasons is a waste of precious time in life. "Wait til next year" is a chant of losers IMO. Even if the Sox of the Bill Melton era won 50 games one year, a true fan IMO wanted win No. 51, not some ridiculous draft pick. And a good Sox fan years ago sorely wanted to finish better than the Cubs record wise even if it was one game. Now, yawns on the Sox-Cubs thing. That said ... adios and may the summer last forever! Winter blows!
  6. Caulfield u gonna be in KC at all this summer? I can meet you either at a Royals game (yuk, unless it's against Sox) or give u a tour of Allen Fieldhouse. Unless of course I make it back to Chitown. GO SOX!

Make sure you eat at the game one night. Ballpark food at The Cell might be amongst the best in baseball. I mean the real food. Corned beef, roast beef, I'm assuming the pizza is still good. Yummmmmmmm.
  8. Yeah, Jose is so un-good on shots to his left that they seem like clean hits when it's merely because he is sloth-like on shots to his left. I concede I have seen some of those hits blaze by him.
  9. Is this really Caulfield? Do u still exist? The font and size is non-Caulfield style. Where u been? You are a Hall of Fame poster.
  10. That's cool Fisk lives in Chicago area. Pitch at risk to Carlton Fisk; Pitch at risk to Rich Zisk. ... I once in high school competed in watermelon eating contest on the field on the 4th. I didn't even try to win just ate a cold delicious couple pieces of melon. The White Sox players were nice, a few saying, "Don't choke on the seeds." p.s. You had to send in a postcard or something to be eligible for 4th of July contests. It was quite a thrill when somebody from the Sox called our house (no cell phones then) to confirm I'd been chosen for the melon contest and making sure I wanted to accept.
  11. It's time for Nate to pitch in the Independent League. He needs to go the way of Humbar. No offense to Nate. Injuries suck, but Nate needs to head to the Indy League or Japan.
  12. Of course not. Unless we suddenly were gonna start spending like the Yankees. We have to believe in those Sox players or the rebuild is certain to flop. I mean I guess I'd be OK with that trade if we just changed the name of the team to the Chicago Trout. This one man team would not win ... ever.
  13. Chitown... Believe it or not, I've shut up about Jose's defense because seriously, in the games I watch (I don't watch that many games ever since we've stunk) Jose is always digging throws quite cleanly. I realize he blows on defense, but in the games I watch, he's always digging cleanly. I've shut up even though my eyetest has treated Jose well defensively.
  14. I guarantee you if we are 10, 20 out of first and the wildcard you will be hearing some fans on this board wanting to shut him down the last six weeks. The radical rebuild/tank fans see no need in forcing the issue. They want losses and they want 'em bad and they want to put our stars on ice til we are ready to win and win big. Hey is Escobar still in our minor league system? Just asking. I don't like his game.
  15. Has he played any 1B? Just asking cause greg HATES when we immediately put guys at positions they haven't played. I mean even if Collins blows I want him to catch. Sorry James.
  16. You should prepare to be surprised. Not everybody can DH. The DH is the worst possible defender. Collins may be subpar catcher, but welcome to your CATCHER of the future, not DH. And I hate to tell those who are worried about defense ... Eloy is your LEFTFIELDER not DH for a long time to come. GO SOX!
  17. He was horrific but I don't like the timing with the charity event. He was good for one thing, helping us beat Cleveland. Now we can go back to being Cleveland's patsy I'd think, at least for the rest of this year.
  18. I wish we'd acquire somebody for the month. This injury is really gonna show up in our play and in the standings.
  19. High ankle sprain ... don't expect him back til second week of August, folks. By then it may be decided to just shut him down.
  20. A perfect Greg world is one in which the player of the game only hears praise, the sweet scent of praise, praise, praise. No trade talk, no "yeah, buts" just the sweet scent of praise.
  21. At many universities like Kansas, the academic side actually contributes to athletics when the athletic side is much more financially stable/profitable than the academic side. That looks like it is changing. At Kansas I believe the academic side has cut its donation to the athletic department which is a private corporation significantly next year with the goal to give no money to athletics relatively soon. There's really no way to rein in this runaway train called college athletics. Look at the salaries of head coaches of bball and football. Isn't coach Cal up to 8 mill a year? Football facilities ... football coaching staffs now full of analysts (if you are young you might want to try to get into that field; big bucks, fun work if you know analytics) as well as assistants. Practice gyms going up everywhere; weight facilities; trips to foreign countries every 4 years; private flights to games for pretty much all sports now most certainly football and men's bball. But like I said almost all teams travel private now. The government needs to tax these programs. But as far as stopping all this ... nope. ESPN wants it this way and is paying for so much of it along with the shoe companies. CBS is paying for it with its NCAA tournament deal. It's bizarre yes, but colleges are all bout athletics now.
  22. Teams make mistakes but if his talent is so apparent ... how in the hell ...
  23. Ozzie would last about 2 days in this current PC environment. Can you imagine Ozzie meeting the media in the dugout for 30 minutes before every game and in the office after every game? He would rip KW and Hahn a new one blaming them for some of the many stiffs on the roster. Can you imagine him fielding questions about the bullpen when it flops? Ozzie would be blasting so many players all our heads would spin. He's say half the team doesn't belong in the bigs or "go ask Kenny" when some media member asked him why they lost. Ozzie simply cannot manage in Chicago again. He'd be throwing everybody under the bus except maybe Abreu and the few guys who have talent like Eloy and Moncada and Gio and Colome and McCann. he might try to build those guys up a bit. And he'd show respect to guys like McCann when they earn it. But to all the stiffs? Look out.
  24. Can Jirschele speak Spanish? In this day and age you've got to have a Spanish speaking manager. Communication is vital and Ricky according to reports is very good in that department. I think Omar is a no brainer for our next manager. He's being groomed obviously for the job.
  25. Then dump him for whatever you can get for him. Maybe 3 prospects with the ceiling of a Jon Jay in his prime or a Todd Ritchie in his prime? He's old and no good and too expensive to sign. I am giving in. Takes too much energy to try to talk some sense into you folks. I'm OK with trading him now.
