2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:56 PM) The Republican primary electorate isn't the general election electorate. I remember him being ahead of Hillary at one point in some polls. Seriously, folks, this is worth discussing. Trump is a nontraditional (egomaniac) candidate. The convention is not going to be some happy happy "Donald is the greatest" thing. The media is going to push hard to find delegates on the floor who despise Trump. There probably will be some boos in his acceptance speech. It has the potential to get really ugly. Then he has to witness all that pure love for Hillary in her convention all the media fawning and ignoring of the Bernie thing. The speeches will make Hillary out to be the Mother Theresa of politics. Trump will have to listen to all that. Then the campaigning til November ... the devil Donald Trump vs. The Saint Hillary Clinton. His head is going to explode with him not being popular anymore. I am looking for something strange to happen, Donald dropping out before much of my scenario takes place. It's called "the zillionaire saving face." Never underestimate what an egomaniac multi millionaire can/will do to remain loved/popular. In his case dropping out. Bernie never saved face. Despite a helluva campaign and great results he was painted as a wacko nut and his MANY primary victories were simply ignored.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) There hasn't been any point where he's been expected to beat Clinton. What polls are you looking at. Do you deny he was RED HOT after the Republican debates? He was a runaway train and woulda run away with the election at that point. I can't believe with his ego he didn't recognize he stands no chance because of the biased media and didn't find an excuse to drop out. His legacy would have been assured as the one nontraditional candidate who took the country by storm. Everything is downhill from now on and for a zillionaire I'd think it'd be quite humbling and troubling, yes humiliating to get beat by Hillary Clinton of all people (lol) in a real landslide. Trump's ego?? How can it withstand a bashing by one of the worst Democratic candidates in history?

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) Or his bigotry and idiocy turned off too many voters. Yes but nobody can deny he had his time. Right after debate season he was king and probably would have beaten Hillary had the general election been around that time. He in fact should have dropped out of the race at that point just for ego's sake. Just say he tired of the grind or something. He was never going to go any higher in the polls. Now? The predictable landslide is assured for Ms. Clinton. The media is already gearing up for the coronation coverage first at the convention then the inauguration of first female president. The convention coverage will be a lesson in bad journalism. The Republican convention will be all about finding people on the floor who hate Trump and make it out to be very critical. They will try to stir up the story idea that Trump can be replaced as candidate at the convention by Romney or somebody else. The Democratic convention, armed with potentially the same story line, will not go there regarding replacing jail-bound Hillary as a candidate. They will toss a bone to the Bernie people, giving them an opportunity to say they love Hillary and are united rather than finding the people who still want Bernie and would blast Hillary on camera.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 06:01 PM) Trump fired his campaign manager. The campaign season is SOOOO long really nobody but the Democratic candidate has a chance because the media knows how to push the right buttons to keep the Democrat fresh and the people's easy choice. There was a time probably a couple months ago during the heat of the debate season, Trump was HOT, HOT, HOT. If there were an election back then, he'd probably be President. But the election season is SO long, it is inevitable his newness and brashness wears off and he is old news. Yes even Trump can outlive the 30 minutes of fame thing (as a presidential candidate). Couple that with the fact all the media (cept Rush) continue their bias toward the Democratic candidate and it becomes a landslide again. The media refuses to paint Hillary in a negative light, ever, and simply won't go near the email thing. The only sound bites on the email is her laughing when asked about it. They might run that clip once a month or something to pretend they are unbiased. Anyhow, it's all timing, Mr. Trump. You didn't need to fire anybody. You were THE MAN after you annihilated all those Republicans in the debates, now you are on the inevitable slide. Hillary won't be dumb enough to debate you much if at all and you will lose in a landslide. The media had a story in Bernie vs. Hillary and wouldn't even acknowledge it was a race, despite the fact Bernie at one point was killing her in eight of 10 primaries. Trump's only hope now is to continue the assault on the media (saying they are the worst people alive and unfair and so beneath him) and really hit Hillary hard, show her no respect ever, call her Crooked Hillary as much as possible, push the email thing, push to get her indicted, unsightly stuff like that. But ITS ALL TIMING DONALD. You were on top, even challenging Hillary for the ultimate prize, til the 15 minutes of fame calendar and same ol same ol media making a saint of the Democratic candidate made you old news.

Why all of the bunting?
It's a moral victory when one of our guys executes a bunt correctly. Of course like Pavlov that is a signal to our next hitter to strike out, usually on 3-4 pitches.

Time to Trade Chris Sale?
I think I'd try the reverse method again. Trade everybody but Anderson, Sale and Q and Abreu. Get rid of all that salary and rebuild with a new GM, new manager, and KW not on board, whatever his title is. Sale will be gone after 2019 so ASAP get rid of Frazier, Shields, Avi, Lawrie, Avila, Navarro, Melky, Eaton, Shuck. Keep Eaton if you want. But get that all done and see what you can do with that money.

June 20th Game Thread: White Sox @ Boston 6:10 CT
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 03:52 AM) Sweep Boston and then I'll consider getting on this train again. That includes Shields throwing a good game. Anything else and I'm firmly fixed in the "sell everyone" crowd looking to blow it up and build for 2018/2019. I won't get back on the train until we get to be 5 to 7 over .500 and actually win some series in our own division. It's apparent by now we have a non contending team.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today
Robin is not a very good manager obviously. But the players actually reek more than he does.

White Sox Winner!
Baseball's gods gave the Sox the win after listening to Boston's crew mocking Putnam and saying he "deserved to lose." If anybody else was listening, those Bah-ston announcers were brutal in blasting the Sox. Serves them right to not score that run and wind up losing. The White Sox ... can't win a game in the Central (cept against the AAA Twins once in a while) but usually play OK against everybody else, albeit Washington and the Yankees pasted Chicago pretty good this season.

June 20th Game Thread: White Sox @ Boston 6:10 CT
QUOTE (Green Line @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 03:09 AM) Damn, foiled again. Just as Robin is hanging by a thread, his team pulls out a "big win". Now we will have to watch them flail around for another month before he's back on the hot seat, all because of one win. That's OK. I think we all can agree there's no reason to root for losses to get a better draft pick. The Sox don't exactly develop talent, except for pitchers, well. So a win is a win. When we get one, enjoy it. Robin won't be back next year which is all that matters right now. If they name Renteria they will be more apt to keep him rather than getting somebody good.

June 20th Game Thread: White Sox @ Boston 6:10 CT
QUOTE (Scoots @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:44 AM) NOW THAT IS HOW YOU WIN A DAMN BASEBALL GAME. Guys bailing each other out and situational hits (at least toward the end)...let's continue this play. The Sox historically and again this season have been an acceptable baseball team against anybody outside of the AL Central. There are some exceptions of course but generally speaking the Sox are OK vs. everybody outside the Central. Now greg's theory has been espoused on here often. That we are more alert or "fired up" against the "name" teams in big cities, the historical teams like Boston and the rest (I do realize the Yankees spanked us again this year and do so often) but generally speaking we are average to decent vs. everybody outside the Central and the worst team in all of humanity vs. the Central. Also the Central has us well scouted; everybody else? Not quite as well scouted as the Central teams that all own us.

June 20th Game Thread: White Sox @ Boston 6:10 CT
Holy Mother of Gawd. I just checked MLB.com to see if Duke walked in the run after Putnam reeked and saw the score. How the hell did the Sox get out of a bases loaded no out jam??? Please summize for me! When I turned it off, Putnam had just walked the bases loaded and I had it on the Bosox announcers who were MOCKING the White Sox and ripping them mercilessly. So how the hell did we win???

I actually feel sorry for Robin more than despise him. He has to watch this crap every night. He is making a ton of money as well to watch one of the most dysfunctional teams in modern Sox history. Find a way to lose, this team will lose.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
Last 3-4 minutes ... both teams had I think 3 possessions both didn't score. Finally with a minute left Kyrie hits the three that effectively wins it. If GS was gonna answer it woulda needed one of those patented Curry or Klay 3s to tie it back up. Actually glad to see Cavs win. Some of those GS threes are just prayers. Oddly, I do think OKC woulda beat Cleveland.

The problem is talent
Thanks guys I did mean Zito. He got rocked and rocked and rocked. It was ugly. Wonder if Sox will hang Shields out to dry like that or make him a meaningless middle reliever.
-
The problem is talent
The title of this thread is partly right, partly wrong. Any organization that would trade for Shields as they did, when they did, has more problems than talent. I'd say 90 percent of this board knew it was a stupid stupid stupid move to acquire a guy with as bad stuff as Shields at this stage. It should be very interesting to see what they do with him. I mean you get rocked as much as he's been rocked, 2-3 more outings like that and you have to do something. It's like that year the Giants acquired that starting pitcher, I forget his name, who immediately turned to crap. They kept trotting him out there to get rocked game after game just cause of $$$. He was a lefty I believe. Name escapes me.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today
He has to go today as a last ditch effort to save the season. But they should also be shopping Lawrie, Frazier, Nate, Robertson and Melky and Avi as of NOW.
-
June 19th Game Thread: ChiSox at Cleveland
Yeah, I'd agree Robin is probably the first to go. Probably before the next game. It will be their last resort to turn it around as they start shopping guys.

June 19th Game Thread: ChiSox at Cleveland
Add Robertson to the list of guys who is OK, not exceptional. Wow. What a headache of a team. I wonder if the Sox finally will have a complete firesale this year trading everybody except Q and Sale and maybe Abreu. Definitely start shopping Melky, Lawrie, Robertson, Jones, Avi, Frazier and both catchers and see what you can get. Somebody might go for Robertson and Melky and Frazier for starters.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
Cleveland actually might win this game. Golden State might win by 25. Does anybody really know how it's going to go? Cleveland is on a roll with three wins in last four games. But GS has the homecourt where it has only lost four games all year, two playoffs two regular season. I guess you never can bet against the homecourt. If somebody made me bet the house on the game, I'd have to bet GS for the simple homecourt reason. Kind of the same game as the Thunder Game Seven. if they can beat Durant/Westbrook in Game Seven at home, you'd think they could stave off LeBron at home. If it were in Cleveland GS would have zero chance. The Cavs would be champs.

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) In his career, James Shields has made $49 million. He has over $50 million remaining on his contract that he would lose if he retired. His career earnings will double in the next 2.5 years. He will make you buy his deal out to get him off your roster and it's the right move. If you want him off your roster, you either get him onto the DL or you pay the rest. I guess at some point then you have to put him in the bullpen and pitch him when the Sox are down, 8-1 or something. It's dangerous to keep trotting him out there with MLB hitters scorching his offerings.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) That's what every partisan attack book will do Greg, throw 100 things against the wall and hope that 3-5 of them stick. Everyone loves to see one-sided barrages against their favorite targets, but the world is much more nuanced than that. The problem is that truly objective non-fiction political books just don't sell as well. So you don't believe the author? You believe a guy who had the access he had would just make it all up? Why would he make it up? Hillary will just laugh as she does when asked about the book and say, 'Well, none of it is true and I could tell you some stories about the person who wrote that book!" Applause, standing ovation, vote for Hillary. Clinton was meeting Lewinsky on the sly. Why is it so difficult to think he had several other mistresses? As far as Hillary? Why would he make up what a terrible person she is (in his eyes). If reporters wanted to try, I'm sure they could get others to affirm the stories, but nobody will do that. Everybody wants Hillary to win and they'll just write this off as gossip and lies.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Unfortunately, some people believe everything they read. Do you not believe the author was the No. 1 Secret Service agent closest to Bill and Hillary? Why would he make it all up? Truth is a defense against lawsuits. It's almost cult like with Hillary's backers. They want her to be President no matter what. What would it take for Hillary supporters to believe what that guy wrote? Why do they want this person in office?

Five Stages of Grief
I'm at the stage of apathy/laughter at how bad this team is. I've definitely stopped watching the standings. One caveat however. I get very upset for a few seconds when they lose again to a Central Division team, especially the Royals. I calm down in about a minute when I realize it is what it is. Other than that I realize we don't have the team and just laugh/accept how embarrassingly bad they are. I don't really have any favorite players except Anderson maybe, hoping he clicks. And of course Q and Sale. I despise all our relievers except Robertson. I'm OK with Frazier, like Anderson, don't like Lawrie, feel bad that Abreu isn't better, don't like Avi, apathetic toward Eaton, don't like Melky, don't like either catcher, don't like Shuck. Again as far as laughter, this Shields thing is priceless. I mean this guy is arguably the worst pitcher in baseball and the Sox felt they had to pay what, 27 mill of his salary? Just crazy.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 19, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Um, not sure how this reflects poorly on Hillary? The book has a zillion attacks on her as well apparently. This was a gem. ... "Her only concern was herself, Byrne says. “Mrs. Clinton was a joke, taking herself and the entire administration minutiae so seriously. Her ‘brand’ was her only concern. She was a faux leader, all bark, no bite, but in a very real power position as first lady.” One exchange with her protective detail went this way: “Good morning, First Lady,” an officer said. “Go f- -k yourself,” she replied.
