Reports: Miami Marlins hire Don Mattingly as manager
How could anybody work for that management team? Mattingly should have waited for a better job. He'd have gotten one. I guess there are worst things than getting fired one year into a four-year deal.

**2015 World Series - Mets vs Royals**
QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 02:39 AM) Sounds like cub fans. It's so funny because when they win, they brag about what great fans they are. These fans are brutal. Any loss regular season or postseason and they consider the offending players total bums. It's classic inning by inning game by game. They despise Ventura right now and love Cueto. A few days ago they wanted to run Cueto out of town. They were praising Rios the other day; now they want his head on a platter. Basically KC thought it was over at 2-0 forgetting home field means a lot this time of year. This series is going 7 obviously.

**2015 World Series - Mets vs Royals**
LOL on cue the Royals fans are burying their own on Twitter. Rios is a total bum now and Ventura got buried as well. Yost is getting buried as well for not pinch hitting Morales for Rios, lol. All the Royals fans are true second guessers on Twitter. As long as they are winning they are "the best fans in baseball." Idiot fans.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) lmao... wow It's funny how during the debate Rubio said we have 11 qualified people on this stage to run the country. I'll have some of that ganja you're smoking, senator. I think Hillary will be so bad she revolutionizes the position of President and we in the future change the duties of president to do-nothing figurehead. Can you imagine her in a crisis? Bill Clinton? Yes. Hillary? Please America, don't reward someone for being an alleged liar and alleged mean, rude person. ... Give me Ben Carson for four years, then vote him out for Michelle Obama. At least she is allegedly very kind.

**2015 World Series - Mets vs Royals**
If the Royals win it the Cueto trade was a runaway success for KC no matter how good those other players get. Like somebody said, flags fly forever and Cueto did just what Moore wanted him to do. Win two huge games (so far) in the postseason.

My/Your Off Season Plan
Olt is a young 27. Are we all OK with letting him start next year and see what we've got? Remember, Gillaspie was a starter for the Sox for a year and change ... Is it Olt time considering those 2 mammoth blasts he hit last September?
-
Justin Morneau or another year of LaRoche
Just two seasons ago he had good stats. But last year he must have been hurt with only 182 plate appearances, unless he was benched. If we could dump LaRoche (impossible to do with that contract) I'd be all for paying Morneau the kind of money the Sox paid Keppinger for a year or 2. Give it a shot.

MLB trade rumors mentioned Sox at potential destination for Wieters
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 04:18 AM) Donaldson would have hit .213 with the white sox It does seem that every position player the Sox acquire/bring up does turn to crap the past couple years. I guess the exception was Trayce. .295 in 135 plate appearances with five homers and 16 ribbies. That projects to about 20 homers and 70 RBI for a rookie, not bad. I'd definitely get rid of Avi and gamble on Trayce. If he hits that well he's as good as Avi offensively and so much better defensively. Again, with the Sox luck he'll go 1-for-April and be swimming uphill all year.

MLB trade rumors mentioned Sox at potential destination for Wieters
He's hardly played at all the last two years and his worst year of his three-year stretch of "good" productivity was the year before that. That's two bad seasons and one iffy one the last three years. If he's going to make that kind of money then I don't know what to say. 15 mill a year I guess is the new average salary for average position players who have enough time accrued.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Mostly because people want theater anymore. No one wants intelligent discussion, and respectful debate. By and large the general public consumes news somewhere between a meme and tweet of length. So glad to see the media getting bashed today for its disgraceful attempt to coronate Hillary last night. How can the national political media get away with being like this?? Why didn't they just wear Vote For Hillary buttons on their shirts? What is going on? Hopefully that moderator's career is ruined by his disgraceful performance. Hopefully the Democratic media questioners' tactics backfired and their careers are shot. The political reporters are so biased it's unbelievable. I wish they'd just start each question, "As a Hillary supporter, I'd like to ask you this" and go on with their question from there. It's funny cause the other media can't really rip last night's moderators cause they approve of the mission: To systematically end the campaigns of all those inferior Republican candidates. Sickening job, media. Appalling.

Ten Year Members
Too bad there's not a scientific way to figure out most loved poster; most hated poster; etc. I would say the 10 year posters are true Sox fans. If the Sox didn't mean a lot to us/them we would move on.

Losers of the debate tonight? The media. Why are the hosts so rude and so blatant in their attempt to get the candidates to blast each other? s***, they should have just said: "Mr Trump, what do you hate the most about Mr. Carson?" Or "Mr. Carson, what do you hate the most about Jeb Bush and the Bush family in general? They were so obvious in their disdain for the Republicans and wanting the Republicans to self destruct. In contrast, they treat Hillary at the debates as if she indeed is the most respected person in American history. I DO NOT GET IT. The Democratic candidates aren't paying these media members; why the hell are they so one sided? It's not like Hillary Clinton gives a f*** about the media and yet they worship her and try to make tonight's debate a ridiculous catfight/dogfight between the evil, unqualified Republicans!

**2015 World Series - Mets vs Royals**
Mets have to win four of five to win the Series. Thinking of it that way ... good luck Mets. The only good thing about the Royals is how they shut up their own arrogant fans on Twitter. So they blast Yost for bunting and Escobar after two feeble bunt attempts rips a single. They ripped on Cain for taking such a hard swing when they just need situational hitting (what kind of bs criticism is that after what he's done the last 2 years?) and he does well. They rip Hosmer for not fielding a grounder last night and he gets the winning sac fly. They rip the s*** out of Cueto for his lousy game in Toronto and he goes 9 innings. It's really funny how their lousy fans on Twitter get it shoved right back up their ass by the players. And of course they rip Yost over and over and last time I looked KC was doing OK the last 2 years. it's very funny. These fans think they are so great ... they are like any fans. When things are looking rosy they are all happy. At the FIRST sign of adversity, KC fans freak! You wait, if the Mets win Game Three it'll be back to armageddon for the fans. They so badly want to find a goat and bury that goat (if they lose). I do have a question for caufield and/or anybody else. Yost said that Cain bunted on his own in Game One when he fouled off two bunts, then whiffed. My question is ... if a batter bunts on his own with a runner on first, does the batter have to flip a signal to the runner? I'd think it'd be helpful if the runner knew a sacrifice was on, but if the hitter is doing it on his own?? How does the runner find out? BTW Yost said he's called for the bunt four times all year. He said his players bunt on their own a lot though.

State of the White Sox Address a Position
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 11:10 PM) I'll take a poke at shortstop. I think it's pretty fair to say Alexei was awful with the bat this year. His D is damn good even if it's declining, still damn good. I'm totally impressed with Saladino's makeup on the defensive end of the game. He just GETS IT. He's fluid and fun to watch, a true baseball player. The question is his bat, and after Alexei's year, I feel like it would be hard for him to hit much worse. So for me, it's a no-brainer when you figure in the $9M in savings. You asked about starting pitching. I'm not crazy about having 4 lefties, that's the only reason we probably shouldn't go after Buehrle. Too many lefties. We've got Sale now, Rodon, Q, Danks and Johnson. We need to acquire a veteran righty and get rid of Danks. I love Johnny but he's not an effective starter anymore. He is capable of getting guys out so he should be a useful bullpen piece. I don't care how much money he's making. Put him in the old Thornton role. Sox definitely have to acquire a veteran righty from somewhere. As far as bullpen, we need some consistency. Our bullpen overall blows. Robertson is a good enough closer but he is going to fail a bunch. I have no problems though with him closing as long as you accept the fact he's good, not great by any means. After him, we basically have zero reliable relievers. I'd love to get rid of Duke, Petricka, Putnam, Jennings, Albers, Webb and keep Montas and Nate even though I'm not a Nate fan. I'd like to see Danks become a reliever. That probably will never happen. Our bullpen is like our team. It overall sucks and is a big reason we finished 9 under .500. It's totally unreliable. So in conclusion I'd love to start three righties and two lefties in a perfect world. I'd love to have a MUCH BETTER bullpen.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:31 AM) Did you seriously just go on a rant about people wanting a Clinton or a Bush, and then ask where the Kennedys are at? Yeah but I meant the best and brightest like when John F Kennedy first came on the scene followed by Bobberoo. John Kennedy at the time was a breath of fresh air which politics needs now. Compare the charisma and leadership of a John Kennedy to the grumpy Hilly.

Great Game One for KC. Gordon homers off Familia to tie it in improbable fashion. Then a bunch of pitchers (Young was a true hero) keep KC in the game until they finally plate the winning run. Hosmer with the redemption. KC will take it.

Why doesn't the Washington Post or NY Times tackle the Hillary personality issue? They won't go there cause they want her to win.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) but does that take away from him??? he is still brilliant. even revolutionize some surgery and he went to nite school to get his education. i really recommend his movie that HBO did on him. but look at it this way, he is not sitting on his accomplishment to sell himself. Our country is bizarre. We're fixated on electing and re-electing members of the Clinton and Bush families. In a country of all these people, the masses flock to these families. You guys mock me sometimes, but I'm telling you, Michelle Obama should be gearing up to run in 8 years after Hillary is done. As well as Chelsea. Michelle probably would win in a landslide. Chelsea probably would win if Michelle doesn't run. There have to be some more Bush family members that can run as well. I'm very disappointed in our country. The Presidency shouldn't be so easy to win just cause of your name. Where are the best and brightest? It's all the same familes or rich people who get a kick out of running. I like Carson right now, but he's basically a bored rich guy running. Of course Trump's just doing it to further his brand and feed his ego. All the politician types are too boring or weird to even make a splash.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) wow. i was watching good morning america and saw that Dr. Ben Carson was running. anyone remember who he is?? HBO made a movie about him , gifted hands. well, the one problem i have is, what other political post has he had, beside touring on public speaking. however, i like him for 2 reasons. 1. he has a legit game plan since 2014. he wants to see some positive things done, some of which i agree with. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Carson#Economic_issues 2. and i hate to pull the minority card here, but it is a great move to split the minority vote that usually goes for the Dem's with Dr. Carson. think about it, he is brilliant and will be running against Hillary . the dem's usually have the majority of the minority votes, i can see the rep getting into this area. now comes what the dems need to do, if it is Clinton running, they need to make the announcement really quick of her Vice pres. the only move will be getting a minority. either the hispanic twin from TX or either of the 2 african americans in the north east states. now this election is going to get very interesting. He's been running for a while now. For some media, the media isn't embracing the fact Carson is African-American. I think it's because he's rich and if you read Jason Whitlock's take on such matters, the average African-American voters don't like rich minorites. They think they are sellouts for some reason. I'm not saying "all." Just read Whitlock's historical takes on the matter.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) Gregg, please see below regarding Carson. http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/10/...ness-continues/ As to Hillary Clinton, of all the candidates who are likely to win the nomination, she is the most likely to work across the aisle without massive shocks to political institutions. Any Conservative that wins will be expected to work with the guys who keep trying to shut down the government. Sanders is too far to the left to get any of his policies through. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, will be pushed to the left in the primaries by Sanders, but has the best chance amongst all the candidates of being able to work across the aisle and get things done. Furthermore, of that group above, Clinton has the most experience - both as a Senator and as Secretary of State. There are plenty of reasons to avoid Hillary Clinton as President. I'm not particularly excited about a Clinton presidency (Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Clinton is a bad trend) but she is the best of the options at the moment (in my opinion). Her being mean and her ushering in a Chelsea Clinton presidency (seriously Greg?) have nothing to do with policy... Thanks for the link on Carson. But how come when I link something about Hillary it's immediately dismissed by killing the messenger. Seems to me that author had an agenda. None of that Carson stuff was out of context or exaggerated? But the Hillary stuff I post is just discarded as incorrect. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) -Trump Trump isn't going to be President. It will be very funny if he's the Republican nominee, though. Funny as in comical, entertaining. Funny thing about Trump. If he won the Presidency I could see him just quitting after a year. If things got tough or he got bored, he's egotistical enough to just quit. Probably same with Carson for that matter. That's what happens when you are extremely rich and capable of being bored by politics. At this point, I'd still go with Carson. I do think if Trump won, he'd tire of the job and the criticism and just quit.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:59 AM) Congrats greg. You have lowered the bar SO much regarding the quality of your posts, that you can get away with posts that would normally be considered trolling. I've never seen so much baseless drivel compressed into one post. Chelsea following Hillary as president? lol. I'm just very confused by the lack of posts supporting anything but the "name" Hillary Clinton. I am asking for reasons people want her president and I'm not seeing any. I don't think my comments are that reprehensible. I don't think my post constituted "drivel." Nobody here or pretty much anywhere I've looked is supporting anything but Hillary's name. It's very bizarre that a person is going to win in a landslide and it's all because of her name. From what I can tell, nobody's excited about any of her positions, just the fact it's her turn, hence my comments on her "coronation." Sorry if I've offended u or anyone else.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) Maybe we are just living in a delusion now that has not crashed, where the whole nation thinks the President can get things done, and the institution is just not set up for that. So if the position is a do-nothing position, I think we should just give it to Carson. He's very intelligent. He's soft spoken and let him represent the USA. You know, personality does matter. There have been enough red-flags on Hillary's temper and rudeness to make Americans fear her being "in charge" of the nation. Greg's quick hits ... • Hillary: Too rude, too mean, too obnoxious to be allowed to be President for 8 years. Please America wise up. Plus her winning would precede 8 more years of Chelsea and do we want that?? • Trump: Too cocky, too intolerant of anybody but himself, too boastful to represent the USA for 4 years (he'd lose re-election). • Bernie: Too nutty with this socialism stuff to be given the office for 8 years. • Bush: Too incompetent in terms of garnering absolutely any support. • Carson: Smart, classy, calm, brilliant, yet not a politico. He'll hire good people in all the key positions and re-energize the country's faith in politics. Give him the office, baby! 8 years. • Florina: Too incompetent in terms of her past jobs. Has a bit of a mean edge like Hillary and is too much of a self-made corporate 'tool' if that's the word. She knows how to impress a room full of HR people. Can't let her rule the roost for 4 years (she'd lose re-election). I would encourage those of you who like politics and have been silent in defending my rants against Hillary or even trying to re-but them to give me your quick hits on the leading candidates. I'm open to changing my mind on Hilly, I really am. I just have a gut feeling from everything I've read and heard coming out of her mouth she is truly a disaster waiting to happen.

Concealed weapons in college classrooms
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) If you do a search on-line, you can find many instances of friendly fire killing troops - those with the most training with firearms. In a mass shooter situation, I have a hard time believing that the guy who shoots once a weekend, or once a month can properly assess the situation and not ultimately make the situation worse. But then I also think part of the problem with this argument is that both sides argue in absolutes. Could someone armed make an accurate shot and save lives? Sure. Could they make the situation worse? Absolutely. I tend to argue that the odds are higher that they make the situation worse and are, therefore, a net negative in a crisis situation. Well, something has to be done. It's almost sadistic to let these lunatics have their guns and come into churches and schools guns ablazing and trying to kill hundreds of people and nobody can be armed to stop him. If we can't have guns to defend ourselves maybe we could have tazers or bring a set of steak knives and fire them at the killer. It's un-human, un-american to let these people be armed and kill me and my relatives and not give me anything but my bare fists to fight and feet to run away. Let me put it this way to the anti's on here. ... If you were told by an accurate person that in the next two weeks there would DEFINITELY be a gunman at an event you were attending and the gunman would be at one point within five yards of you, would you be in favor of others in the vicinity being armed? Or take your chances? Cause the odds are growing each and every day you will be in this situation somedday. Please answer.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 04:37 PM) If you're Balta, you're praying the guy with the knife stabs you before the guy defending himself with a gun shoots you! I don't understand those who are against people having guns to defend themselves against the malcontents in society. Don't forget the growing foreign threat as well as the nutjobs who are blowing up our campuses with bullets. It's just wrong to let some asshole go to a parade or hop on a bus and start beheading people. Though in the case of a knife, there probably wouldn't be a ton of casualties as somebody's gonna tackle the guy and get the knife. I mean in this day and age of violence, I would think everybody would want to sleep with a gun nearby. Think about it. Home invasion, you get tied up and left to die in the basement or even worse, tortured then die. It's Americans' right to protect themselvesl.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) The leap from Hillary to Chelsea is amazing. Why didn't that apply to Jeb Bush? He's even closer to the office with a resume that is at least on par with other Presidents. Based on Greg Logic we should be having the coronation for Jeb instead of an election. What do you think any President is going to accomplish in 8 years? Our system of checks and balances keeps any one person from doing too much good or bad. Tex do you really want Hillary? You think there's gridlock now? Wait til she takes over. At least Obama is likeable and still he can't rally ANY support. I don't even think Hillary will try to pass anything. She'll give up quickly and just sit there and pout and say the big bad Republicans won't cooperate. She'll take her full eight years cause she won't even have to break a sweat so to speak in winning her second term. Then it figures to be Chelsea time. Why are Americans so stupid? There's no reason to let this very mean person run the country for 8 years? Aside from the D by her name, what are her strengths? Nobody even tries to say what she does well. They just say "Vote Hillary."
