Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) Bill Maher is a jackass, and he particularly targets Islam for criticism (similar to Dawkins or Sam Harris). He targets all religions. I'm Catholic and more amused than offended by his not accepting there is a God. I think he's a star in this situation. It's easy to take the "cops are bad; teachers are prejudiced" angle on this one. Bill had questions. Mark Cuban has questions. I'm very disappointed the media is not interested in flushing out a good accurate story here. If Ahmad is a fake that's not good copy; it's going after a minority copy.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) But he wasn't sent to the principals office. He was arrested. A kid was arrested at school for, in his spare time, tinkering with a clock to show his teacher. The problem you are not seeing, is that is not just a mistake in handling, that absolutely should not happen. Kids in school who outside of school are continuing to do educational activities should not be punished. They should be encouraged. Hence the response to encourage a kid who had been discouraged in the harshest way possible (outside of shooting him). You are seeing a kid who had been jailed and automatically assuming there is a reason for it, and that he is a threat. He could have been obnoxious, and he could be arrogant. That's part of being a teenager. He should not have been jailed. But he was. That's a fact you can't wash over. People see a wrong like that and they want to try and make it right in a cosmetic way. You see a wrong and think, well maybe they were right. I want more facts but my position is the cops over-reacted in cuffing him. The facts are blurry. One report I saw said the initial teacher the kid was trying to impress told him it was a nice job but don't bring the clock around the school or people might think it's a bomb. The kid did anyway. My point is I think there's a real possibility daddy set this all up. As far as kids and educational activities outside of school ... did you see Alpha's video of how it probably took the kid about 30 seconds to make the clock? He definitely showed no innovation in building his clock. It's rather deceptive actually and arguably worthy of detention if he was passing that clock off as something he made, not ripped off Radio Shack.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) There are not two issues. They are the same. No, because I think most reasonable people would say the police should not have cuffed the youngster, SHOULD NOT ever have cuffed the youngster. The kid was unarmed and not a threat and he's a kid and a human being for goshsakes police! All schools have policies, however, and teachers can back me up on this ... aren't you required to send the kid to the principal's office if he has a weird clock that's ticking like that?? Couldn't you get reprimanded if you don't send the kid to principal? And yet other reasonable people would agree there's no reason to make the kid a national hero without letting the story play out a bit and search for some facts. One reporter said the timing of Obama's tweet indicates he hadn't even seen a picture of the weird "clock" just yet. Not saying it's true or not. How can any of you smart people disagree with what I posted about how the media saw this story and how people like Hilly saw this story? They classified it one way and quickly thrust the young-un into the heroic 20 minutes of fame cycle prematurely. Please disagree with me on that. People that despise me often overlook some things I say. Like my initial post was very reasonable (on both sides) and yet I was attacked pretty quickly so I fought back rather harshly myself.

If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?
QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:55 PM) I think the FO will be quiet this offseason in comparison to last season, but I see two moves really helping this team be competitive next season: 1.) Go somewhat big with an offer to Ben Zobrist. I get it, he's old and people dont want to sign old FAs anymore, but Zobrist is a great solution to the Sox immediate problems. They need a solid third baseball that can provide both offense and defense and Zobrist fits both categories. In addition, he is a lifelong AL player, so he is already acclimated to the style of the league. This allows you to slide Saladino over to SS where his bat plays better. If Anderson is tearing up AAA, maybe he can be a late season call up in a playoff push. 2.) Trade for a catcher, preferably Austin Barnes. Tyler Flowers should not be a starting catcher next season. This position needs to be addressed and it needs to be addressed quickly. Lineup: CF Eaton 3B Zobrist DH Abreu 1B LaRoche LF Melky RF Thompson C Barnes SS Saladino 2B Sanchez BE A. Garcia BE L. Garcia BE M. Johnson BE Flowers? SP Sale SP Quintana SP Johnson SP Rodon SP Montas/Danks CL Robertson SU Montas (if not starting) SU Jones RP Duke RP Petricka RP Jennings RP Albers That's actually a reasonable plan. If Sox aren't going to do much spending, that's actually a good plan. Zobrist would be good for the reasons you mentioned and catcher must be addressed. Might have to overpay for Zobrist. How much is the question.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) LOL. Took the kid all of one minute to probably make his clock. I just challenge the media to keep covering this and if the police ever get to interview the dad that that is made public as well. This was a rush to judgment story and Obama, Hillary and Microsoft should not have overreacted without letting the story play out. Of course nobody wants the story to play out any more cause of media bias. The media wanted this story to be: Genius student of color very very proud of clock he made. Big bad school officials think it's a bomb and call cops. Cops handcuff kid (I'm not backing cops 100 percent on this; very stupid; they fell for the alleged trap right there and I am against any police brutality especially of an unarmed 14 year old for goshsakes), no charges filed, kid gets put into the 20 minutes of fame cooker where President, Hilly, all the morning shows want him on now til that 20 minutes of fame runs out. Update the story when he gets scholarship to Yale. Update the story 10 years after that when he's a success in life. The story just might not fit that agenda, but too late ... media already made up its mind how the story will play out. Takes a cool guy like Bill Maher to say ... WAIT!

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:29 PM) There's been plenty of people supporting what greg is saying, even powerful people on the left. Don't get the need to attack him. I don't think he should have been cuffed though. He disassembled a clock. While I don't get the celebration of his "genius", I don't think it should have ended with cuffs either. In case anybody missed this post I posted it in support of myself. Thank u Buehrle/Wood. This isn't me creating a story on my own. Read my initial post. I posted a fair representation of this issue. I challenge the media to keep covering this and I think you are going to find out there are 2 sides to every story. This got turned into a superhero kid story IMMEDIATELY when PERHAPS that should NOT be the case.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Holy crikey, "greg". Conspiracy? Hoax? Do you have any evidence whatsoever of it being a hoax? Other than some people's apparent desire to make it so? Wow. Have you read about this? Did you listen to Mark Cuban's account of talking to the kid? Have you listened to the experts say the kid's invention took about a minute to reconfigure some wires off an already made clock? Don't turn this into a Greg thing please. There are 2 sides to most every story and the media and Obama and Hilly wouldn't wait this one out. This isn't Greg freaking out. My take on this is shared by people like Bill Maher for gosh sakes and Cuban and security experts.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 09:14 PM) Next from Greg, how the Virginia news shooting was a set-up hoax to bring on gun control so the new world order can take over. Please don't be lazy. Please read this and consider both sides. The kid obviously was set up by daddy to cause this issue. Why are smart people like Bill Maher and Mark Cuban backing my side of this issue? Look the teacher the kid supposedly was trying to impress said nice job but dont carry the clock around the school because people might think it was a bomb. He did anyway (cause ol daddy the fricking ACTIVIST told him too?). Another teacher hears it ticking and sends him to principal. Please read this at least and don't be lazy about this story. There are two sides. Anybody who contributes money toward this kid is stupid right now and Obama and Hilly should be ASHAMED for jumping to conclusions and tweeting support for this kid without knowing the facts!!! If you are being led by the media on this story and refuse to consider the kid's family putting him up to mischief at least read this item. It exposes the hoax pretty well. At least give my side of this argument a chance!! http://universalfreepress.com/9-facts-that...administration/

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 07:51 PM) It still looks like a story where pretty much every authority figure involved should be ashamed of themselves/removed from their position. How could it be a "hoax?" The kid claimed it was a clock from the start. There's been no deception on his part. Even if the father was attempting to "make a point," that would still require the teacher, school administration and the police to all act stupidly and in concert in order for it to actually result in anything. Also, lol a link to Pam Geller. eta: as for "where's the media coverage now?!?!" the story happened, it's pretty much over. what do you think they should be covering? I want the media looking into the possibility the kid's family had him disassemble a clock (not make his own clock), put it in a box with wires sticking out, pretend it's his own invention, act like a little jerk when questioned about it, now trying to raise money for himself over his 'mistreatment,' have the kid admit to a Dallas reporter he 'didn't want it to look like a bomb.' Why would a kid excited about his making of a clock even think about it being a bomb if he was merely excited about building a clock? I applaud Bill Maher and his panel for questioning this! Kudos to Mark Cuban as well! Please buy the White sox Mr. Cuban! Another article on the likely hoax http://insider.foxnews.com/2015/09/21/judg...purposeful-hoax

Read about the case. There appears to have been great deception on his part. Listen to Mark Cuban what he said after talking to the kid. The family is an activist family. This was a trap and the kid and family won. The kid is trying to raise 100,000 bucks on a webpage and luckily the public hasn't been fooled. He's only gotten 12,000 bucks. Kudos to Bill Maher for not falling for this and examining the case.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) Oh, cool an article by Pamela Geller. Sure this will be good. Don't shoot the messenger on this one. This is a good case study in media/politics/jumping to conclusions way too early.

Ahmed: Child inventor or part of hoax?
So a Muslim youngster was arrested at his Texas high school after bringing a clock he made to school. It was ticking of course and didn't look much like a clock. But the public reacted quickly, the kid was deemed a genius and he's been on all the talk shows and got free gifts from Microsoft and is invited to the White House, etc. One problem. His family are activist types and the dad has been part of hoaxes before. I believe they are suing the school and the police. Since an article by an expert saying the clock was a ripoff of a clock made in the 80s and the kid merely disassembled such clock and put some wires together, the media has kind of dropped the story. It looked like one of those stories in which the high school and police should be ashamed of themselves for arresting a boy wonder kid cause of his race. Now it looks like it's something else. Where are the articles now? It doesn't fit the agenda anymore so the story is not worth covering?? Are you following this story? Any take on it? I'd say odds of it being a hoax by the kid are 50/50 at this point. It's proven the dad is an activist and it sure looks like he used his kid to try to make some money. If so please throw the book at dad. p.s. The more I now read about this the more Obama and Hillary should be ashamed of themselves. They rushed to judgment and praised this kid before getting any facts. This looks like it was not a cute 'kid builds clock and gets roughed up for it' story! Please media, don't let this die as you are! It doesn't fit your agenda anymore but somebody show some guts. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/ed...rimination.html http://pamelageller.com/2015/09/clock-conf...-a-threat.html/

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) Pretty sure the story is they took off their jackets as they posed, he probably had no idea. I'm not a big Bush fan but I would never do this to somebody. I have a sense of humor but it's kind of bush league of the Sanders supporters.

Samardjiza believes he was tipping pitches
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) If this explanation regarding tipping pitches is legitimate, I would change my opinion to now, at least favor making a QO. However, I would still hope that the Sox would not try to sign him to a long term, expensive contract. Don't fall for the hype. Tipping pitches, whatever. Definitely can make the QO though cause he won't accept it.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 08:07 PM) The post I quoted described him as "one of the bright spots this season" and said that the White Sox basically got what they paid for from him. I don't understand why Melky gets this year's free pass. He's been lousy overall and is not worth the $$$$. Maybe it's his name. Melky is a cool name I'll grant you that.

Who would you rather see get more PA's in 2016 for the Sox
Tough call. I'd definitely try to trade Avi Garcia and keep Trayce in some capacity.

When all of your teams suck
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) How do you handle it? Sox - what more can you say? Colts - remind too much of the White Sox NBA - don't watch it NCAA - family is either Louisville or KY fans. I have an occasional interest in the Final Four but it's win it all or bust. NHL - Blackhawks. The season will be interesting. I can't watch them since I'm in AZ. I love baseball over them all. I guess my excitement could come from the Fall league or watching kids play. We, meaning Chicago fans, don't have much to b**** about. Blackhawks have kept the city in championship mode with three in six years for goshsakes. Sox won it in 2005 which is better than last reaching world series in 1959. I hate the Cubs but they give Chicago another playoff team this year. And the Bulls won so many titles with Mikey that Chicago is not known as a city of losers anymore by any stretch.

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) I think he needs to be extended a QO. He is not as bad as he had pitched in the second half. Not sure if he is having arm fatigue or what but he has not been right in a little while. If he declines the QO the Sox will be fine and move on with a draft asset, if he accepts you have him on a one year deal for him to redeem himself and try to make up for the tens of millions of dollars he cost himself this season. If he performs to his career numbers you can move him at the deadline if or hold on to him and make a run and extend a QO next season. I just don't think he's very good. Let him walk.

How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 03:49 AM) As of now, Melky has the exact same amount of RBIs he had in 2014. Which is why I didn't want to sign him. He's not good enough.

Sox sign Dayan Viciedo
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 12:43 AM) Sox fans could do their self a big favor by accepting that LaRoche will be on the team next year. No team is going to trade for a player that earns 13M and cannot hit. The Sox are not going to pay LaRoche that kind of money to not be on the 25 man roster. All we can hope for going into 2016 is that LaRoche turns it around or can provide some value off the bench. It is what it is. Probably true. Maybe an NL team will bite. Sox probably would have to play at least five million of it though and Jerry won't approve that. I'll say this about Melky. At least he hasn't been completely worthless like LaLob. Melky did get his average up to .280, though I do despise him as a player, too.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 03:44 AM) That would be the logical equivalent of hitting on 17. Those days are pretty much over in the MLB FA market. Someone will give him 3/60, but nobody is giving him 5/100. Maybe if he was 28, but not at 31. I guarantee you he gets more than 3/60. Four years minimum. Four years 80 would be the minimum offer or four years 76 million. Four years at 18 mill a year is probably what he'll get. maybe the full 80 million with a fifth year option.

How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Melky will earn his contract. Not even overpaid in today's games. They'd sign Robertson too. Shark trade was fine. Gave up a bunch of nothing to get an above average pitcher that had a below average season. I think Melky's a flop cause of his production. Few homers, not enough RBIs. Robertson was OK closer. Shark trade was awful. I'd rather keep Semien and Phegs. They arguably coulda started this year.

Sox vs Tigers Game 1, 12:08 first pitch
Shark with the one-hitter. Sox can now offer the QO. He now will never accept it and Sox are safe there. He's gonna be paid big big big bucks next year. All GMs have to see is an outing like this. He's a perfect winter signee. He sells tickets cause he has a name.
-
Sox vs Tigers Game 2, 6:08 first pitch
Wow a Sox sweep with very very little offense. "Team inconsistency" once again. A DH sweep in Detroit? You gotta be bleepin me.

Gammons thinks Shark gets QO
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) We should unquestionably offer the QO. Today's game assures Shark of whatever he wants on the open market. Wow. He gonna get 20 million a year for 5 years; bank it. Just hope Sox don't sign him.
