  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 02:41 AM) what talent does beckham have? He has one tool at the MLB level -- arm. That's it. No power, no average, no OBP, not much speed or natural baserunning ablity and not much range in the field either. I guess you could say he has soft hands but that doesn't do him much good on balls he doesn't get to. He was never that high of an upside guy in retrospect -- he was a player that matured early physically and despite all pre draft indications -- he does not have a MLB level mental makeup. He's tinkered his swing into utility infielder levels. People are saying he has talent based on what, (not saying you are) his 1st round pick status? His 200 fluke PA his rookie year? Hawk Harrelson's mancrush? Good post, but I think the reason some people believe Beckham has talent (and still might become a good hitter) is his college performance and draft status. The problem, some believe, is his horrific style of hitting -- with that terrible hitch. Sometimes it looks like he's all wrists up there; I'm surprised his wrists don't simply break in two. Can he reinvent himself? Is there talent there ready to come out with proper coaching/listening? Or is he a miserable stiff with no hope? Like the rest of you I hope he makes it big somewhere, preferably the NL.
  2. Somebody made a good point on twitter, writing, "since was was the job description for police offer turned into a job without risk?" I personally believe this second guy in St. Louis should have been tazed instantly. Watch the cellphone video. Did they need to kill him even if he had a knife? Walk up to him and taze the s*** out of him. I mean he might throw the knife, but again, isn't the job of cop to have 'some' risk? I'm not trying to be insensitive. I don't think the cop would have gotten killed by this guy with the knife. He was kind of meandering around. Taze him! I'm still thinking the guy in Ferguson didn't need to die either. I want to hear more about the kid beating on the cop and going for the gun.
  3. What do you do if you are the remaining journalist there waiting to die? Do you ask them to go ahead and kill you to get it over with? Or do you pray for a miracle and they release you or the U.S. troops find you? If you had access to poison would you kill yourself rather than let those bastards behead you? This story saddens me to no end. Animals over there.
  4. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) I really hope they give Semien the rest of the season at 2b. While he didn't have gaudy numbers, he looked like a pro at the plate and wasn't afraid of hitting in a big situation. So many guys who come up in this organization look scared in the batters box, Marcus didn't. I think he can be a solid hitter given the opportunity. Marcus did pass the eye test cause he had a handful of huge hits. But overall, his hitting numbers sucked as I recall.
  5. Glad he's gone obviously. He was a terrible hitter, simply awful. If he does have any hitting talent, hopefully another organization's voice will help him develop into a good hitter. Right now, his career is in serious jeopardy now that his original team has given up on him. If he somehow becomes a star, good for him. But he had to go. He was a horrific hitter as a member of the White Sox.
  6. That's neat somebody is suggesting the A's acquire Dunn. Although I'm sure Billy Beane has assessed the situation over and over. It would be nice to know Beane's true thoughts on Dunn.
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) I'm going to use Greg's words from a previous thread for his quote. "I've never read something so horrible from a Sox fan." I didn't mean to offend you, I was just horrified you were quoted as saying you wanted the team to move. That was too wacky for me.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) Danks has absolutely gone into the tank over the last month. I think Ptatc is on to something with some fatigue issues either causing bad mechanics or overthrowing to make up for it. He hasn't be mechanically right for a while now. Then shut him down. Team is beyond horrible and out of it. Rest him for next year. I am all for winning as many games as possible, but he's had a nice comeback season. Shut him down. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) I don't know why you're so concerned about the payroll. Hahn will add guys he thinks are going to be good value, and will pay what he's comfortable with paying. That might be signing 4 big free agents or just trading for some guys. Trying to get the payroll up to match someone's paradigm of "trying to be competitive" is really dumb, IMO. The payroll will NOT be a good measurement of this team's direction or how successful its offseason was. Lot of fans think about payroll and only payroll when thinking about players. It's insane, because who cares how much Reinsdorf spends? As we've said, it's not like a 50 million dollar payroll will mean they will lower parking costs, etc. I am in theory against paying any player big bucks, but at the same time I like seeing Jerry get hit where it hurts, the pocketbook.
  9. Someday they are going to finally change the name and we can get on with proper respect to the American Indian. I love the fact many newspapers and announcers won't use Redskins. They only will put "the team from Washington." I'm not offended by Ditka. It's neat he is ripping the PC police, but he's wrong here. You can't call a team Redskins. In fact, I'd make the Cleveland Indians change, too. WTF?
  10. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:54 AM) Just to continue the predictability, for both me and him, 4 for his last 36 (.111) with a walk and 13 strikeouts It's crazy how bad he is again after that streak of Babe Ruth-ism.
  11. Sox need to acquire all players named Chen in MLB and minor league baseball. And check for Chens available on the foreign market.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) I think that next year the team finishes .500 or around .500. I think that Hahn is going to make some more moves to improve the team like last offseason. He has to bolster the bullpen up, improve the catching position and get a left handed bat in the middle of the line up. I would also like to see 2 RHP in the starting rotation but that is a want, not a need. I fully expect the Sox to finish below Minnesota which means last place 2 years in a row. That is unacceptable. If the Sox finish last again next year, I'd clean house. No more Kenny. No more Hahn. And beg Jerry to sell. You can't tell me the Sox should be finishing fricking last 3 straight years. And what's more, nobody is the front office is calling it a rebuild, right? They are denying we are rebuilding. Last place must be a thing of the past starting next year!
  13. Quiet tonight so far in Ferguson but there have been arrests. I wonder when the media will send their people home. Probably after the funeral of Mike Brown next Monday. They can't stay there forever.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) What we need to do is get out of the region for good. They want to continue living like it's 1200 BC, go for it. See ya later. That's not a bad take. Those f***ers are truly living B.C. Great post.
  15. Why not just change it to Washington Pigskins? Just sayin ... You still get 'Skins. And pigskin is a funny term for a football.
  16. I think most Sox fans would welcome a trade or two to keep September interesting. My question to the people who might know: Have any lousy teams like the Sox thruout history made some Aug/September trades that acquire key pieces for the future? I mean trades past the trade deadline? It would be nice to see the Sox start acquiring some good bullpen pieces for next year and also start getting rid of lousy players like DeAza, Viciedo, Beckham, Dunn, maybe even Flowers though admittedly I like his long home runs.
  17. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 02:37 AM) Question for the veteran fans here - what's the worst offensive season by a Sox player you can remember? I wanna compare some of the worst statistically to Leury Garcia 2014. Wasn't Brian Anderson pretty bad? Harry Chappas never cracked .200 did he? Hell, one of Adam Dunn's seasons, didn't he dip to .145 at some point in June or something? Leury may be worst of all, but there have been some miserable hitters in Sox history, like all teams.
  18. Boy the Sox stink. Hitters have run out of gas. Pitching is so so when you factor in the whole staff. Team is anemic. Lot of Orioles fans were happy campers this series. Were there more O's fans than Sox tonite?
  19. I just can't get over the horror of James Foley kneeling there knowing he was about to get his head chopped off. And I can't get over the inhumanity and horror regarding what the remaining journalist is currently going through as he waits to be beheaded. They probably told him of Foley's fate and he's just waiting to die. I almost threw up seeing the video of Foley bravely kneeling with the asshole behind him holding a knife to his neck. Can these ISIS assholes even speak English? Did they communicate with Foley? Sorry, man, nothing personal but we have to cut your head off to make a point? The horror of it all and the other things I mentioned makes you wonder if the end of the world has begun.
  20. James Foley is beheaded by ISIS. This is beyond horrifying. The other journalist there will have the same fate. The inhumanity of this and the other beheadings depresses me beyond no end. I am so freaked out by this and the Ferguson situation and the economy here and globally, not to mention Putin and the North Korean bastard asshole, it makes me think things will never get better in the world, that our world's best days are over. Can anyone get me off the ledge?
  21. The cops raided a church where people were allegedly sleeping. Church leaders denied it. Another cop shown last night telling people he was gonna f***ing kill them and told the media to f*** off when asked his name. Both sides are at fault in these protests. It's scary to think after a week and a half, these protests still could get really really violent. Do you guys agree with the church leader who said this is the showdown with the cops everybody predicted? Then you look at what is going on internationally with Putin, North Korea, the bastards who beheaded the American. Is this the start of the end? Seriously.
  22. Rather than blast the team more I'll just say Hahn has his work cut out if this team wants to contend. As of now, of course I'd say No, to the question asked in the thread.
  23. So far no looting tonight, no trouble tonight. It's a Tuesday night though. Lot of people have been out during the evening hours just no trouble yet. Oops, somebody threw a water bottle at midnight and trouble brewing. What a joke.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 01:47 AM) Orioles are a good team. True. The Sox don't stand a chance against good teams with a good manager. No chance at all. There aren't many great managers, though. But Baltimore has one.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 11:01 PM) why? They'll just move Butler back to 1B and Ibanez would be more of a PH/role player. It's not like he's not ancient and hitting in the 100's. In fact, he might have more value providing veteran leadership on the bench than anything else, having gone through a number of pennant races in his career. Butler loves playing first base and I think Hosmer might be a prima donna. No proof.
