  1. By the way, somebody text me updates from the Brother Rice-Marist football game. Thank u.
  2. That is so f***ing frustrating I could punch the wall. My god. If we don't win the division, remember that inning. We should have knocked out this starter, who has nothing. Bases loaded nobody out and can't score more??? WTF. Is this really a big series or not? Opportunity knocked and Sox failed. I'm off to watch a neighbor in a bad high school football game. Hopefully I'll hear later we somehow won.
  3. Youk and Dunn epic fails. That just sucks against a struggling pitcher. f***.
  4. Youk had to elevate in that situation. Why did Dunn take that first pitch??? Wow.
  5. What's our record since DeAza has been out? I assume not good. I just tuned in. I assume Jake is sucking. Nice game, Jakester.
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) The way Romney blinked was wierding me out, yeah I know it's trivial but he is just unlikeable on screen, might be a nice decent dude one on one but on tv he is really akward. No wonder his negatives are so high, he has trouble connecting with folks. That's why I think Obama knows he has it made. The superficial stuff wins elections. Obama knows he's camera friendly and he may be a blah-do-very-little President, but he knows how to deliver one liners with ease and he's a good looking guy. He will give an AWESOME speech at his convention and stress he just needs more time and bam he wins in a landslide.
  7. If we lose tonight I guarantee you the Tigers sweep the series. If we win, there's a good chance we take 2 of 3. My guess is we get swept and look bad doing it. That's how this season is going. A confusing season. Peavy the competitor is going tonight ... we have a 3 game lead ... you'd think this is set up perfectly for the bulldog Jake to put us up by four games and have us play loose the final two games of the series. It makes so much sense So it probably won't happen.
  8. If Jake Peavy could just win the opener, the Sox finally would be in a position of strength. Lose the opener however and the momentum for a sweep begins and Detroit forgets about its s***ty series in KC. We are 3 up, correct? Just win the first game and things are looking up for the first time in a while. Lose that game and it's the same ol roller coaster and we likely get swept.
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 05:41 AM) good thing about going 1-2 is that we'll only lose a game in the standings, so we'll leave town still up in the division by 2 games Exactly.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 03:54 AM) this Romney speech is very boring I watched the replay just now. Thought Romney had a bizarre smirk on his face at times. Do you agree? I think he's kind of creepy. Obama in a landslide. Obama has the best thing going. He can just say in his conversational tone: "Look folks. It takes longer than four years to fix this mess, especially when the other side tries to block my every move. Give me more time; trust me, it'll all be fine."
  11. I must publicly eat my words and thank the KC Royals for doing the noble thing and sweeping Detroit just as they swept our Sox in Kauffman. I thought KC could only get up for the White Sox. Thankfully I was wrong. KC did a great thing in kicking Detroit's butt, proving again the Tigers are having a somewhat disappointing season after being picked to win in a runaway. I'll be equally disappointed if the Sox get swept in Detroit. 1-2 will be disappointing, sure, but 1-2 or 2-1 would keep me from jumping off any ledge. Cmon Sox, beat this average Detroit team at least once, hopefully twice this weekend.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Nicely played. It's funny. If you read about the 60s and 70s, you'll see that players never got off for paternity leave and normally didn't get off for deaths in the family. They would get off for the funeral and that's it. Not bereavement time. How times have changed. But I bet there were a lot of angry relatives back in the day when husbands simply could not leave their baseball jobs to be with their wives and see their young-uns born. I don't know who put up a stink first and when this became common place, but it'd be an interesting story if some publication wrote it.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) Just cause you're slow doesn't mean you don't have to hustle down the bases and/or throw your bat and hang your head in disgust whenever you pop a ball up. As the captain, he needs to lead by example. Something I've always respected Jeter for is that he hustles on every play, regardless of how routine an out it is. With that said, Ventura did a great job in changing the culture of the team this year in order to get them to hustle more often on routine plays. I'm pretty sure it was Dick Allen on here that used to cite an article he read where scouts couldn't even get home to first times on the Sox a few years ago cause no one was hustling. You obviously don't like the shoulder shrug. It doesn't bother me. He's a big, slow as an ox. No need to run hard every time. Now DeAza? He has to sprint. we need him back in the lineup BTW. Badly.
  14. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) Meh. Outside or various AL Central opponents at various times, the two teams that have dominated the Sox the most over a span of years are Toronto and Baltimore, but especially Baltimore. They play tough on the road or at home, and always seemingly 4-game series. I'm not overly concerned. Even if Detroit wins tonight they still lost 2 of 3 to an inferior Royals team, so both teams come into an important series on a down note. The Sox have proven time and time this season that they respond very well to these types of series losses. I expect this weekend to be no different. Some people don't seem to mind if we lose 3 of 4. I prefer to look at it that we blew a big opportunity to start making Detroit doubt. Detroit will have plenty of confidence again that the Tigers can blow us away this weekend. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) I wouldn't say he's been pathetic, but I'm sick of watching him dog it down the line to first base. The "Captain" should show a little more hustle. Cmon. The guy is the slowest player in baseball.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) 2-6 vs Boston is even worse Yeah, but I never expect to beat Boston in Fenway even with their current crap team.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) vs Bal 1-3 vs Bos 1-3 at Cle 2-2 at NY 2-2 at Bos 1-3 at Tor 3-1 at Bal 1-3, barring a miracle finish Thanks. So that adds up to 11-17. I wonder how other teams would fare in a similar stretch. Probably just a couple games better is all. The 2-6 vs. baltimore is pretty s***ty.

    2012 TV Thread

Thank God Jersey Shore has been canceled after a final season. The dumbing down of America ... why would anybody waste time watching that crap? There has to be something better to do than watch those people on a reality show. The 3 Stooges movie deserved to bomb after putting Snooki in it. I would never see a movie with Snooki in it. I'm disgusted with myself for knowing who Snooki is.
  18. Hey stat lovers ... it seems to me the Sox almost always suck in 4 game series on the road. What is the Sox record in 4 game road series compared to other contenders? Except for Seattle or somewhere like that, don't the Sox always faceplant in 4game road series? A split in a 4-game road series is cause for a parade.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) Sox had a bad series, and still has won 7 of their last 10 games. Then I should say Sox are floundering badly as a road team suddenly. Sox look like a very bad team on the road now. The O's just massacred Quintana.
  20. Sox lose 3 of 4 in Baltimore at this stage of the season? Wow. I'd have never thought Kansas City would actually save the day against Detroit. Can the Royals actually sweep the Tigers? If Detroit as expected would have swept KC, I'm thinking most all of baseball would be preparing for a Detroit mauling of the Sox this weekend. Now it's just two floundering teams going at it. Anything can happen this weekend.
  21. I was reading in our local magazine that gays and lesbians make up 1 to 2 percent of the population. That is not a high percentage. This is not a flame ... but where do gays and lesbians find dates/partners?? There ain't many out there. Serious question, not trying to be an ass.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 02:09 AM) I do not understand Gordon Beckham. I think I understand him. Great great fielder, average hitter. Perfect No. 9 hitter for the next 10 years. He'll get hits, even some huge hits, now and then. But he's simply no more than an average hitter, maybe a bit below average. He is a big-leaguer, though. He's assured a long career. He's not a complete bust. I'd rate his hitting Cminus and fielding Aplus. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 02:55 AM) Ax-cellent !!! Great line!
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 02:58 AM) And DeAza had a good Game 2 for Charlotte....Hudson playing as well down there. So when is DeAza eligible to come back from his assignment? Wise/Viciedo platoon in LF, or Wise to the bench? You could make an argument that Wise should be in CF and DeAza in LF, but it would be pretty shocking if they changed things around at this point in the season. Still, it would be the best defensive arrangement, in all honesty. We need a healthy DeAza back in the lineup and on the field. It's Viciedo's year to prove he's a big leaguer or not. He doesn't get benched at this point. Wise goes to being a sub. Make it work, White Sox.
