  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 04:40 PM) You ignored the rest of my post. Without any coaching or training, it's not an easy sport to pick up, not at all. It doesn't matter what your wife shoots (not offense) and it doesn't matter what Tiger Woods shoots. And for all we know, he could be counting every single stroke, like a pro would, where as in casual golf, guys won't count scratches or penalties and such. Or pull the "I'll take 6" for a hole. Yes, Alex probably doesn't cheat in golf which I commend him for. I could go out today and probably average six a hole for a 108. But truthfully, in whacking the ball out of bounds several times and not counting that and scuffing a few and hitting another ball a few times, and having 8 footers be gimmie putts, my actual score would probalby be close to 140. I love how some golfers I know are all proud when they shoot 79. Well, I watch them play and they hit another tee shot here and there and have so many gimmie putts it's ridiculous. Kudos to Alex ... for this topic at least.
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) I wish I had a job where when my boss asked for my business plan, I could say "I'm just focusing on being me". I'm really good at being me! It's pretty much the only thing I ever do. Funny, but as u know, sports is a different animal.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 05:01 AM) As long as you have starting pitching, you always have a chance. I have no idea how our staff will ultimately turn out, but a rotation of Danks, Peavy, Floyd, Sale, & Humber has a chance to be very, very good. That's why I think it's foolish to completely rule out the Sox next year. Amen. I also hope our bullpen gives the starters a chance to pick up some wins. The Sox bullpen has pissed me off for 2 straight seasons now.
  4. QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) I like Hawk. Being a 'homer' is expected, however, if a home team player screws up, it should be noted. The announcers in Colorado are homers, much worse than Hawk. When Tulo gets thrown out at third by 10-20 feet stretching a double into a triple with no outs, the announcers here admire Tulo for his hustle. Maybe they are not allowed to criticize players. Amen. People don't realize most cities have broadcast teams of TRUE HOMERS. At least Hawk tells it like it is for the most part. Yes when things are going well he's a total homer in his inflection, his calls and his crazy ways of wording things. But I challenge you to listen to most any other teams' crews (except Scully and a few like that) and not puke at the homerism.
  5. I still say Hawk and Stoney and before Stoney DJ and before DJ Wimpy make more negative comments in one series than other teams' announcers make all season. They are homers but they do criticize once in a while. Most teams have plastic idiots who just complain about the calls that go against their team.
  6. Gordon needs to tape this and play it every day to go with his new mantra:
  7. I kind of liked Jerry's quotes in that story. We might suck, but I can't argue with his reasoning of how the team conceivably could be good.
  8. QUOTE (pcullotta @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) Brian Anderson. The most disappointing White Sox player ever to me. Beckham and Dunn could take that spot over though. Is he still trying to be a pitcher for some team?
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 05:42 AM) I'm totally with you. If I was the manager, I'm giving Peavy the OD start, no doubt about it. We brought him in to be an ace. Send him out there to be an ace. It'd show him the team and organization still had confidence in him. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) I wouldn't go that far - yet. Morel's September was enough to at least cling to hope that he could possibly become a passable everyday 3B. This isn't like Brian Anderson. He showed nothing, ever. 1.) I kind of agree. Now that Mark is gone, why not give Peavy the ball? What if he throws a Verlander-type gem? 2.) Morel is such a good fielder. If he could hit .280 with 22 home runs we'd have something for the next 15 years.
  10. Wow, Rowand, that was pretty brutal. Maybe he cleared his head and he'll try harder this year.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 03:33 PM) I think this is a very good assessment. I know someone who worked closely with the team during spring training last year and they were shocked by Dunn's daily workout routine. Last guy in, first guy out and that was the best thing they said about his routine. Wow. If true.
  12. QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) I haven't parked at the ballpark in years, but it's still absolute bulls*** to charge 25 dollars for a parking space for a ballgame. That said, the price of parking won't be the reason I go to fewer games this year. A lot of people are going to say screw it as the years pass and just forget about attending pro sporting events. Too much money in a dead economy.
  13. 25 dollars to park for a Sox-Royals game. What a joke. Or Sox-Mariners.
  14. QUOTE (YASNY @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) You picked up on my point very well. In fact, the fact the Ozzie quit on his team (well before the last week of the season) may have had an impact on Rios. Such is 'leadership'. This is where I defend Ozzie and praise him and everybody says they are sick of me talking about Ozzie.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Yet every single one of your posts confidently proclaims that this team will be horrendously bad. I mainly just agree with those who say the team will suck then I add a few shots on Dunn, Rios, Peavy and Kenny. I rarely bring it up, I just pile on.
  16. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 24, 2012 -> 06:02 AM) AMEN. I bought my MLB.com package so I haven't given up hope.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 23, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) It's sad how little White Sox talk interests me, even as spring training is about to begin. I read almost every thread on the site, but now only around half of them in PHT. I don't read any of the "This day in Sox history" threads, stopped reading the Jim Bowden and Cuban ones, and haven't read a word from A Lot For Sox To Overcome, The Team Is Pretty Much Set, nor 5 Burning Questions. I'm not sure if it's the team that is causing this or the complete lack of anything worth talking about due to lack of moves. Welcome to the return of irrelevance. This team is going to suck and steal zero headlines.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) 1) So, Ozzie demands a contract extension through the media, and then goes over Kennys head to Reinsdorf to discuss a contract extension and this is ok, but Cooper sees the ship around him sinking and does the same thing, without saying a word of it to the media, and Cooper is the gutless one here? 2) Why did you appoint yourself the Great(allegedly) Ozzie defender? Being the Man-God that you have told us all he is, he is more than capable of defending himself against us lowly messageboard "haters" 3). You are absolutely right. Robin will make mistakes, soxtalk will call them out and b**** about them. What soxtalk and the majority of the fanbase wants, is Robin to learn from those mistakes and attempt to correct them, not repeat them over and over. And especially not repeat them over and over to spite his GM. 1.) The story I read had Cooper going to Kenny way earlier than the Oz thing blew up. I thought Cooper came across very creepy in that story I read, kind of like the snitch character in the Longest Yard. 2.) I don't know. I get mad when my favorites get criticized in a way I see that is unfair. I've stood up for others who have drawn the wrath on here, like Dye, Wise, CQ, Garland, Pierre, Jenks. 3.) The Oz-KW thing wasn't going to work any longer obviously. I happen to blame KW as much or more than Oz though.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) 1) So you're saying Ozzie didn't have the balls to pull Peavy even though everyone knew Peavy was about to get lit up? Hmm... 3) Isn't this exactly what happened to Ozzie!? He lost a bunch of games and people (everyone but you) questioned his in game strategy. 1.) If you want to word it that way, sure. I'd prefer to word it that a lot of managers hesitate to take out the veteran bulldog pitcher when said pitcher makes it clear with visual signs he ain't coming out. If Peavy is healthy, I"m sure we'll be discussing him leaving him in too long this season. Please please remember this topic. 3.) Yes it happens to all managers who lose. You can blame the manager pretty much every 'L.'
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) If Jake Peavy falls apart in the 5th inning in 5 straight starts again, and Robin Ventura doesn't have the cojones to have someone getting ready in the bullpen to start the 5th in the next game to take him out if trouble starts, then Robin Ventura is a wimp, Robin Ventura needs to resign or be fired, the person who hired Robin Ventura needs to be fired, and then Robin Ventura needs to be forced to fight Nolan Ryan as punishment for that awful of managing. I think tarring and feathering would be an appropriate response to Guillen never having anyone up in the 5th to back Peavy up. QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) Greg, We get it already...Ozzie is the best manager EVER, and Robin is the worst manager EVER....let it go QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) I see your point and others too, but really when you win you're a genius and when you struggle then it's all the stupid decisions that manager made regardless of whether it was Ozzie or someone else. I personally think that the L/R response and taking out a starter, or even a releif pitcher, at the right time can be argued as either letting the guy battle and work his way out of jam or the manager blew the chance and the pitcher just gave up a big homer or something. Again if it works you are smart and if it doesn't then you have no business being a manager on this team (insert team name here). Bottiom line is Ozzie is gone so case closed. 1.) In the games I watched that Peavy pitched, he does not want to come out of games. Robin better just send Coop out there to deal with the situation. The way Coop allegedly crawled to Kenny last year to save his own hide makes me wonder if Coop has the guts. 2.) I have nothing against Robin. Why is it so hard to accept that I am going to prolly respond to posts that call Ozzie out?? You are the guys bringing up Ozzie. If I respond to such posts what makes that so hard to understand? 3.) Amen. It should be interesting to see how the fans on here react whenever we lose, because I guarantee you, if it's a 1-3 run loss, there will be tons of things to pin on Robin.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) Managing the bullpen? Maybe. Knowing when to pull Jake Peavy and Philip Humber as starters? Awful, awful, awful. Maybe the worst decision making I've ever seen by a Sox manager. Good luck to Robin in trying to convince Peavy to come out of a game. Good luck to Robin in dealing with AJP as well if he decides to play Flowers a lot. Good luck to Robin dealing with Rios and Dunn if he decides to "rest them" a lot. Whether you guys believe it or not, Ozzie was an easy manager to play for and a good manager. Good luck to Robin in dealing with the egos of these millionaires. There's a chance Robin could have some problems in the clubhouse with our veterans. If Robin is a natural as a manager, great.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 04:20 AM) Were you saying that last year coming into the season? You really think that infield defense with Cabrera at 3B and Fielder at 1B is going to lead to a juggernaut? That Valverde will go through another season without a single blown save. That Fielder will have a seamless transition to the AL and Comerica Park? I love the way Sox fans have spun this Fielder acquisition. Like Detroit is going to regret it. Detroit is going to win this division as easily as it did last year IMO.
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 05:21 AM) Jesus. Lack of desire? Does Beckham lack desire because he can't hit a fastball? Rios was all kinds of messed up last year, but at least he made adjustments to address his screwed up mechanics. He's more than capable of hitting those numbers. I was only semi serious, but I'd be willing to be bet he's the team's most improved player. The whole "doesn't care/lack of desire/dog" vitriol is so tired. There's no proof. People must not like the way the guy looks or something. Lillibridge cost us a game last year lollygagging in the outfield and he's probably the most popular guy on the team. I don't get my fellow Sox fans sometimes. Sorry for the derailing the thread. Carry on. Cmon. Did you watch Rios chase fly balls last year? He disgraced the game at times IMO. That's my proof. My eyes. And my wasted money to mlb.com. Seriously, how many games did you watch last year? Cause I'm thinking if you watched the games you'd have to notice the guy sucked and loafed, flat out loafed. Of course, Paulie is accused of loafing when he does the shoulder shrug, but I digress.
  24. QUOTE (MAX @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 07:25 AM) My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I read the last line. Rios is simply incapable of that. He is a very limited player who isn't getting any younger and his lack of desire compounds the problem.
