The Manager
I feel like Ozzie is the only “hope” as a midseason manager. He’d be awesome with a known expiration date.

Burger To Marlins
Yeah, but you forget that he probably has access to competent coaching now.

Lambert and Thompson up
I mean, what else is he supposed to say? ”I’m happy to be traded here from Los Angeles?”
-
Lambert and Thompson up
But at what cost?

Read my other posts. You just proved my point.

Lambert and Thompson up
And the fact that we're subjecting him to this s%*# makes this team twice as unlikable.

Fire Rick Hahn
I wonder how the Sox rank in terms of number of innings scored. This team seems to get 1 solid offensive inning a game... that's it. I'd be willing to bet that, even among other teams with similar offensive statistics (runs scored), we'd be near the bottom in the number of innings scored.

Not sure who's more hurt, but I feel like one SoxTalk forum requirement is that you either have to be 100% pro-Yoan or 100% anti-Yoan. There is no in between.

Burger To Marlins
Yeah, but there's a difference between the "oh man, we traded away a good player" and "WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCKING HELL? I HATE YOAN MONCADA!" levels of reactions.
-
Burger To Marlins
I'm wondering if people wouldn't give two shits about Jake Burger if Yoan Moncada weren't also involved.

You don't need infield defense when you're giving up doubles and homers.

Grade Rick Hahn's Trade Deadline Performance
I graded them a B. On a trade-by-trade basis it looks like Hahn was able to get value in return... but if his goal is to compete in 2024, all it did was set the team back in a way that'll force him to try to fill holes in free agency (the prospects are basically at least 1 year away from reaching the majors). ...and, of course, we all know how well he does in free agency. So my conclusion is that he's set up the farm nicely for now, but he's put the team in a position for him to let us down again in 2024.

Can Noah Schultz be an effective bullpen piece when the Sox are competing in 2024?
If this was a troll job, kudos. I bit… hook, line, and sinker.

Graveman to Astros for C Korey Lee
(Sorry - didn’t intend to come off as confrontational)

Can? probably. Should? f*** f*** f*** f*** f*** no.

Graveman to Astros for C Korey Lee
Wasn’t a situational reliever - they chided him for not recognizing the value that they held in Bradford. He was a legitimate reliever, and they chided the Sox for failing to look beyond his unconventional delivery. So they chided the Sox for being stuck in the pre-analytical mindset and being behind the times. Chad Bradford was the example.

Graveman to Astros for C Korey Lee
I thought Moneyball dinged him for undervaluing Chad Bradford.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
True, but you would think at SOME point in history as a charter member of the AL....

Lynn and Kelly to LAD for Trayce Thompson, RHSP Nick Nastrini and RHRP Jordan Leasure
We get salary space for a revamped bullpen next year

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Bullpen spending.

Giolito & Reynaldo to LAA. Update: Angels put on waivers
Also... what's confusing to me is that, based on the assets we gave up (Gio + ReyLo), this is a "retool" trade. Trade away the rental players while presumably holding onto players under contract for next year. The return indicates that this is a "rebuild" trade. Retooling trades should help you within the next 12 months. The returns here, at best, give you an obligatory big-league-bench-sitting or mop-up innings / spot starts late next year. So the returns, while on the surface they seem nice, just don't make sense.

I like the return, on the surface. It's nice getting a top-100 prospect with upside. However, this just adds to the glut of 1B / DH players in our system. If he pans out with his bat, we've just traded for the privilege of seeing the next out-of-position-RFer in 4 years (after 2 years of trying to make his defense "work" at the big league level). Depth is nice, but it's useless when it's as one-dimensional as our "depth" is. You have to be able to have capable players at every position.
