QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Its official, I hate politicians. I don't give a crap about the speeches. The mayor, the governor, the President, Senators, and Representatives all stood up there and talked. STFU, grab a shovel and fill sandbags, or go to a distribution point and hand out food and water. Or perhaps the governor giving them a plan rather than just pray. Not that I am against religion or anything, but this is not a issue to me. Of course people should pray in times of disaster. How about stepping up with a plan or some sort of organization of sorts other than the mass chaos that is still transpiring down there. I really feel sorry that these people are under such terrible leadership from the governor and mayor down there. It's just flat out embarassing to me. Someone needs to step up, outline a plan of action and get to work. Telling people to pray ain't gonna get the job done, period.
  3. Gload should shut his lip and prove something at the big league level.
  4. Cingular + The Razr = Results
  5. El Duque.....YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! RIP EMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. As much as I'd love to see a healthy Frank Thomas, I just don't think it will ever happen again. Perhaps retirement is his best option. Only he can decide that for sure. I do know that I think Frank could make an excellent hitting coach someday, if thats what he wants to do. Otherwise, take DJ out of the booth and put in Frank....
  7. Yeap, at Old Commiskey, Nolan Ryan pitched against us in one of the games and Craig Grabeck went yard off of him. I had to be about 7 years old.
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) Remember how the Twins sent Santana to the minors to specifically work on his change? Did McCarthy have to do something like that? I think he was probably humbled somewhat from his first five starts, probably watched tape, I know he changed his release point and he threw the change and curve both for a strike which he didn't do his first time up. His fastball also had more movement than I've seen in the past during tonight's outing.
  9. Great job by Brandon. Way to go back to Charlotte, work on things and come back with adjustments in place. I saw three quality pitches tonight and that's what it is going to take for his success to come full circle.
  10. Buehrle always speaks his mind, regardless of the situation. This time, however, I think he's going to get ripped fairly good in the media, but I don't see it affecting him much. He'll come back with a strong start next time around.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) I know it is...just referencing the weird numbering scheme. True that, sure makes for some good away messages on AIM though...
  12. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Hm, doesn't seem like a "complete" list...lol Don't know exactly how they did the numbering and such, but this is the complete list.
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) He was in Seattle. I find it funny that people never even posted this. I'm pretty sure we would've seen a shot of him somewhere in the stadium, rather it be in a luxury box, the dugout or the stands had he been there. I never saw that, nor did I see anything from the Sox that he was there.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Three. And since Boz isn't around, I'll put his four on here. Thank you, dear.
  15. I know I spoke with Greasy and a few other posters about getting a complete listing of the Grinder Rules from the Sox. As usual, I figured the direct source to getting this list would be the one and only Brooks Boyer. I emailed Mr. Boyer today and got a prompt response from him and Kellene O'Connell (Director of Advertising) with the complete list of the Grinder Rules. A huge thanks goes out to both Brooks and Ms. O'Connell for taking the time in sharing this list with us. Here it is....The Grinder Rules. 1 Win. Or die trying. 3 Grass stains. Dirt stains. Mud stains. Blood stains. 4 Knowing what's coming and hitting what's coming--not the same thing. 5 Every pitch is full count. Every inning, the ninth. Every game, game seven. 6 The best seat in the house should be determined by the best player in the house. 7 Grinder ball requires speed, defense, and discipline. And immigration. 10 Only one statistic matters: W 11 When jumping on the White Sox Bandwagon, do not, I repeat DO NOT, keep your hands and arms inside the wagon at any time. 18 NEVER be late for the National Anthem. No matter what nation you're from. 19 Flying does not make you superman. Getting up and making the throw to first for the force out, now that makes you Superman. 21 Thieves will be punished. Swiftly, harshly and repeatedly. 22 When attending a Chicago White Sox game, don't blink. 23 When all is said and done, make sure you "done" more than you said. 25 A good outfielder doesn't see the wall. He tastes it. 26 Your hitting should serve as a warning. To low flying aircraft. 28 Always give fans something they can take away from the game. Like the other team's pride. 30 Good enough, isn't. 33 The only way to get out of the hole you dig yourself, is to dig deeper. 37 Never walk. Even when you walk. 38 You're either counted on or counted out. 39 Be a man. Play like a boy. 43 Step up to the plate even if you're not stepping up to the plate. 44 There is more to baseball than peanuts and cracker jacks. 45 Respect the past, people that are shoeless, and anyone named Joe. 45 The best defense is a good win. 54 If you can't take the heat, get out of the batter's box. 55 It's called stepping up to the plate for a reason. 57 Batters should fear your fast ball. Not because it can get them out. Because it can knock them out. 58 In the unlikely event an opposing player turns a lucky swing into a home run ball here at U.S. Cellular Field - home of the Chicago White Sox - and an unsuspecting fan catches said ball, he or she should NOT throw the ball back onto the field of play. 66 If you're male and bringing a date to a White Sox game - sitting in the outfield will make you look bad. 73 When bringing your family to a Chicago White Sox game, know your limits. 74 Believe in Magic. Not Magic numbers. 75 Ixnay on talkin' about the ayoffsplay. 96 Expect the unexpected at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox. XX Jalapeno or Wasabi - Either Way You're Gonna Get Burned
  16. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) Frank is a class act and a whitesox icon.. He deserves the repect he has earned being a whitesox! Fair enough and I agree. But, at the same time, wouldn't it be bad ass to have him in the dugout for our playoff run? I for one would be estatic. I mean just picture this scenario. We're facing the Red Sox in the ALCS, Uribe has a horrible AB his first time up. He goes back to the dugout, the camera pans to him sitting next to Big Frank. Then Juan comes up for his next AB.....WAYYYY BACK, YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, the thought of this....
  17. Removed all of the babbling that just took place. Move on with the topic at hand. Thanks for playing.
  18. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) Except he is planning on being in the dugout. Expect to see him very shortly. People that do not like Frank Thomas = No true White Sox fan I like Frank Thomas as a player. Your second line there was pretty damn funny. I almost fell out of my chair.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) The guy is in a cast. If the other guys were in a cast or not rehabbing with Herm Schneider, they wouldn't be with the team either. If he were in Chicago, which we were lead to believe was to become his permanent home but evidently isn't, then I could see him at home games, but I'm pretty sure a lot of travel is discouraged in his current condition. Did he visit the team in Seattle? Nobody mentioned anything. Still not an excuse IMO. All he needs to do is sit in the dugout and be with the team. He is on the team, right? We are paying his salary, right? This is a situation where...1) KW won't tell Frank anything and 2) Reinsdorf okays this kind of behavior from Thomas. Could you ever see Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams or Mo Rivera becoming injured and then not traveling with the Yankees and attending games? It would never happen. Hell Jeter could have a broken neck and I'd be willing to bet he'd make an appearance at the stadium. It's time for all of the Frank Thomas apologists to step up and defend your boy. Wait, it can't happen because there is clearly no excuse that he is NEVER with the team when he is injured. When he had his arm injured a few years ago, he was never at games then either. Just say no to a Frank Thomas appreciation day unless he wants to become a part of the team on an everyday basis, not just when its convienient for Frank.
  20. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) For some reason i was thinking the yanks picked up most of that.. :banghead Only 2 mil per season if I recall correctly. Count is not a bargain.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) No one wants Julio Lugo because he doesn't fit with this team. He can't play defense and that is a huge part of what this team is all about. Thank you very much. He has a noodle arm. I'd take Uribe over him in a second. People forget that one reason this team has been so damn good is that we have Juan and Crede on the left side. In the past we had Jose Valentin clogging up space on the left side of the infield with his inadequate glove and well, our defense sucked. Uribe and Crede are our two worst hitters. It's easy to pick on them for lack of offense. Funny how few are willing to give them their proper due for their defense.
  22. I was most impressed by Pimental from California who hit 3 homers in the series. The blast he hit yesterday in the consolation game was about 300 feet and nearly reached the parking lot. He also had a game where he recorded all 18 outs via strikeout in route to a 7-2 victory.
  23. Hermanson, this should be a no contest.
