I think the only place he's expressed interest in going to besides the Yankees would be Houston. And with their staff, he'd fit right in the 1/2 combo with Oswalt, with Redding as a solid no.3.
-
There's no way the Yanks do that deal in my opinion. Even though Soriano struggled mightily down the stretch, I still say he's got more value than Mags. And Johnson is a lot cheaper and perhaps even a better player at this point than PK.

If anyone has any information on this part, please elaborate. Thought maybe either Jas or Rex would know something about this, I'm interested to know. In addition to the article already posted, my best guess is this had something to do with Brian anderson and his wrist. The Sox drafted him highly and paid him well, only to find out he had a pre-existing wrist injury. Later that injury re-occurred and not only did he miss time, but his second surgery is now on the Sox dime. My guess is Laumann wanted to discipline a crosschecker for missing that information. It is just that, a guess, but it does seem to make sense. Thank you Rex.

The day after "black saturday" there were 2 locked threads. Thats when I was paying attention.......there has probably been a few more. Now it seems the mods are more sensitive to arguements between members. The thread that Gash made as a joke to Beastly was locked, then reversed. I dont believe a thread should be locked on the grounds of an arguement unless it starts to involve more then 5 people. People can disagree without having an argument. IMO, being "trigger happy" with the lock and delete keys is causing more trouble. me into shape. That was the only thread I locked yesterday, then I unlocked it and talked to Gashwound about it. Apparently, I can do no right in some people's eyes...

Hmmm, guess they DO care what we think....

A poster put this in a thread that I started on the pale hose board and said someone from another board put it up. Probably someone pissed for the WSI image bashing. Anyhow, I'm curious to see who it was, so anyone with information leading to the identification of the originator of this image, please provide.
-
It's most likely a result of the WSI bash I did about their graphics on their site. Nonetheless, if anyone finds it, send me the link. This is rather humorous, luckily I have a sense of humor and laugh these things off rather easily.

Thanks for that image, lol. Doesn't bother me at all. Show me who posted it though, that way I know who's envious.

Like the Bears are going anywhere...

When I was 6 yrs old, saw Michael Jackson. That was the only concert I saw in the 80's.

Besides the fact that this article is poorly written, it also has a few glowing errors. "Nearing 25, Borchard has still yet to spend a full season in the major leagues. For the second consecutive year, he's played just 16 games for the White Sox, all coming in the month of September." Last time I checked, Borchard was up in May/June this year, not September. And if I am correct, he's already 25. "Borchard hit a respectable .253 in 114 games with Charlotte this year, cracking 13 home runs and 53 RBIs. He also hit 20 doubles and struck out over 100 times with the Knights." Since when is .253 at AAA respectable? It's pretty much known that he regressed this season. "The $5.3 million investment should still turn out to be worth every penny. Borchard looks to be the Sox' starting centerfielder out of Spring Training in 2004 if all goes as planned. Watch for him to move to a corner outfield position once he establishes himself." It appears this individual has either been misinformed or hasn't seen Borchard play lately. He'll be lucky to break spring with the team, let along be the starting CF. Horrid article.

I think that offer is more than fair, considering his track record of arm troubles. If he feels he can get more, best of luck to him. Paying him $5 mil isn't going to work with our finances.
-
I disagree totally. He's at best the third best baseball analyst that ESPN has, easily behind Jayson Stark and Tim Kurkjan. You can also argue a few others ahead of him, but those are the two that I definitely feel are better. And it's not the job of a journalist to report rumors, at least a credible journalist. There is a major difference between calling something a done deal and speculating it will happen. He sensationalizes a lot of his material a lot of the time with comments like it's a "done deal" when that is obviously not the case. He knows a lot about the Red Sox and the Yankees, but besides that, he's wrong more often than not. I for one wouldn't care if he never appeared on TV again or wrote another article.

Thought this would be of interest to posters, especially those who follow the minor leagues closely: Best Pro Debut: OF Ricardo Nanita (14) finished second in the Rookie-level Pioneer League batting race, hitting .384-5-37 with 11 steals. The White Sox' first four picks all topped .300, with the biggest surprise being SS Robert Valido (4), who hit .307-6-31 with 17 steals in the Rookie Level Appalachian League. Best Athlete: Brian Anderson (1) and Ryan Sweeney (2) are five-tool outfielders who have shown potential on the mound. Anderson threw 92-93 mph as a freshman at Arizona, while Sweeney pitched at 88-92 last spring and drew legitimate interest as a lefthanded pitcher. Anderson runs a little better and has a better chance to stick in centerfield. Best Pure Hitter: Sweeney's bat speed, swinging plane and approach should allow him to produce for both power and average. Best Raw Power: Anderson can launch 400-foot line drives. OF Clint King (3) gets nice loft with his swing. Fastest Runner: The White Sox went for power more than speed. Valido is the best runner, rating a 55 on a 20-80 scale. Best Defensive Player: Valido has all the tools to be an outstanding shortstop. His instincts and range allow him to cover lots of ground, and he has soft hands and a strong arm. Best Fastball: Chicago signed three strong arms out of the state of Texas. RHP John Russ (8) pitches at 90-92 and topped out at 96 during the spring. RHP's Matt Nachreiner (5) and James Casey (7) both throw 91-93, and Nachreiner achieves Derek Lowe-like sink on his fastball. Draft-and-follow RHP Fernando Hernandez (49 in 2002) is just 5-foot-11, but generates 92-96 mph heat. Best Breaking Ball: Russ' curveball has been compared to Mike Mussina's. But for all his stuff, he doesn't miss many bats. He gave up more than a hit per inning at Frank Phillips (Texas) JC, then allowed a .301 opponent average in the Pioneer League. Most Intriguing Background: LHP Greg Moviel (15) and RHP Paul Moviel (36) are brothers. Greg, who already has a 90-92 mph fastball and is projectable at 6-foot-7 and 225 points, turned down the White Sox for Vanderbilt. Closest To The Majors: Anderson, though he was set back by needing his second wrist surgery in the last year. He should be 100 percent by spring training. Best-Late Round Pick:Nanita. LHP Fraser Dizard (10) would have gone much higher had he not hurt his elbow in 2002 and pitched poorly last spring. When he's right, Dizard commands a 88-92 mph fastball, a plus changeup and an average curveball. The One Who Got Away: LHP Donald Veal (12), SS Wes Hodges (13) and Greg Moviel. Veal, who decided to attend Arizona, reminded some scouts of Dontrelle Willis. Hodges, now at Georgia Tech, slid when his power was muted by a broken hamate bone last spring. Assessment: The White Sox were short on position player prospects before this hitter-heavy draft. Scouting director Doug Laumann's reward? Getting reassigned for political reasons.

Unless the Sox put another year or more $ into the Colon deal, it's not getting done. Regardless of what Peter Gammons says about Bart, it's pretty much known that he's rejected the current deal on the table. Also read that some of the money to Colon was going to be deferred. What kinda deal is that? Looks like the same BS they tried to pull with Buehrle wanting to give him an inscentive based deal. It's apparent that this organization will pay $7 mil for Paul Konerko or $14 mil for Maggs, but won't fork up the same for a pitcher like Bart or Mark B. Pathetic.
-
What reasons did it give? KW wants Cito, JR wants Guillen, Bell is the compromise...
-
He is an excellent player, but last year statisitically he did not justify making $14 mil this upcoming season. If you can deal him and make the team better, you must at least consider it.

Beastly, since I'm taking a break from studying, I feel it necessary to give you an education. For starters, your comments on Konerko. Yes, his 2003 season was horrid. However, in 2002, he was an all-star. Therefore, his past two seasons have not been s*** as you have called them. Second, if Alomar carried the team, he didn't do a good job of it. We failed to make the playoffs if that tells you anything. Third, how do we have a hole at catcher? I think Olivo did a fine job this past season and will only get better. And if we were going to get a new catcher, it wouldn't be Jamie Burke. This is a polite critique of your post. Thank you I'll keep that in mind for future references...try to think of this as a personal article guys Alright Mr. Beastly, I will keep that in mind, just trying to help you establish a bit of credibility with your readers sir.

I voted for State since I'm a huge fan of their basketball program, but I don't follow football very much. Anyhow, go MSU.

Little wouldn't cost much money. He'd probably come rather cheaply.
