QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) I loved this. This moment, and how/when Ozzie took them out of the game was extremely well handled, classy, and respectable. Is there video anywhere of the opening inning?

In case no one's noticed, BA started doing their League Top 20's last week No one Sox player was on their SAL list. Kinda surprised Thompson wasn't, although I'm sure he was discussed. Pioneer League had Blanke (7) and Royse (19). Holmberg was 15 Appy league had Heidenreich (17) and Petricka (19) -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) Nobody wanted him in June when the Sox tried to dump him before his 5/10 rights kicked in. We also got red hot at about the same time though too. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) So, I'm supposed to fly out to Galapagos by way of Ecuador in two weeks. Is this crazy coup thing going to throw a wrench into my plans?? I would love to be able to make it out to the Galapagos one day. That's awesome.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 04:57 AM) I must post because sadly this may be the last time I ever do this.. Konerko Paulie! I really hope he's back, but only at the right price. Hopefully he can get #40 in one of these last three games. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) Let's put it this way...if there was a team that had $20 million to spend and need of a reliable, near the top of the rotation 200+ innings, they'd be crazy if they didn't want MB. They might not want to give up a top 5 prospect at the same time to do it...but if it was just the money...absolutely. How much did the Braves give up 2 years ago for Javy Vazquez, who makes $11.5 million, and then how much did the Yankees give up last year for Javy Vazquez, who makes $11.5 million? You're telling me that if you had the choice between giving up $14 million for MB and $11.5 million for Javy Vazquez...you'd take Javy? That's tough. Javy clearly has the better stuff and has a good track record of success in the NL. MB has been more consistent and has proven he doesnt s*** himself in pressure situations but it's not as cut and dry as you make it seem. $14M for a pitcher like MB is a lot. -
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) I can care less about the money he is making. Overpaid or underpaid, I just hate his game. I'm sure he is a fantastic person, and his work ethic is second to none, but him as a baseball player.. terrible. I'm not speaking for anybody else though. Next to Kalapse, I hate him the most on this board. Agree or disagree with his game or beneficial he actually is to a team, the results he produces makes him far from terrible.

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) that doesn't look funny at all.. but that's good because it prolly means all the good stuff isn't being shown in the previews.. Trailer #2 is better but i don't know how you didnt find that funny at all.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) We are going to have to unload someone's salary to take on Konerko. I have been saying all along that Buehrle is a good candidate for this since we can get a decent return, but it has to be somebody. I'm skeptical about how "good" of a return we could get on MB to be honest. I kind of feel he's more valuable to us than what we could expect back. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) Thompson is too raw for the AFL this year. Mitchell hasn't played at AA so I'm not sure of his classification for the AFL. Anyone know if he (and who else) will be in the "junior" AFL or whatever they're calling it. I think starting that last year was an A+++ idea by MLB by the way.

Gamethread: Sox vs. Beaneaters, 7:10 PM 09/29

QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) Viciedo, if he could get more consistent with the bat, add a little more power, and learn how to draw walks, is more like the second coming of Frank Thomas - a potentially great hitter, but a suspect fielder. He will never be a Morel or Crede at third base - first base / DH is definitely his best shot at playing time. Ideally we'd have Konerko and Viciedo on the roster next year to play 1B/DH, with Konerko getting more time at 1B until Viciedo can improve his fielding more. His power/bat speed is already there to be a 30+ HR guy. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) Viciedo's nowhere near Frank's talent level, agreed. But I think Viciedo at best is a good 1B/DH who hits the ball hard - that's what I meant by the Frank comparison. Frank Thomas was amazing from his start in the majors, and I agree that Viciedo isn't equivalent to a rookie Frank yet. But Viciedo's also only 19, I believe... He's actually 21, which is still obviously quite young. -
I don't know if it's been discussed yet, but Due Date looks hilarious.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) I'm actually looking into transferring to Switzerland for a year or two in the next year or two. The company I work at has a huge hub there and it is supposed to be a very good career stepping stone to work over there. Outside of that, I don't know much, but like you, I think it would be a very cool and unique experience and could be something that adds a lot of long-term value because the more you see and experience varying cultures and business aspects, I believe the better your potential for overall success can be. In addition, it just seems like it would be a fun thing. England/London are amazing. Never lived there, but the people are incredible. I'd love if my company had a branch in Switzerland. I've just always loved that country. I've visited a few times and it's beautiful and people there are great. Lots of people know English there and I know how to speak one of their main languages anyways already. Plus, it's in the middle of Europe and taking trips from there is very easy. Just something I've been thinking about over the past year or so.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) I'd like to have this guy named Daniel Hudson in the rotation over either. Too bad that wasn't an option. Nor does it make sense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) Plus...if the Nats offer Dunn arbitration...we don't lose a draft pick if we resign Konerko. I'm pretty sure Rizzo said they would offer Dunn arb that's why they didnt feel like they had to trade him -
QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) That would be really nice! - Do you speak any German or Italian? I remember some German. Not enough to get by, just a few phrases. I can speak French on a decent level though.

I lived in Stuttgart for 2 years as a child. Even at a young age it was a phenomenal experience. I still think about moving to Switzerland or Italy for a year or two now. Doubt I actually ever will but Europe is a nice place. I'd always recommend it to someone if they were thinking about doing that.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I don't see a problem with what he say, and he wasn't saying he was good. He said he battled, and was a professional, and that it didn't end the way he wanted it to. Where in what he said do you get the impression he was saying he was good? I agree with his quote. I agree. What was he expected to say? He didn't blame anyone or anything and acknowledged he didnt have the season he wanted. He just maintained that he worked hard and gave it his all. He must realize he was a weak spot in the lineup most nights, no point in harping on it just because he didn't say it publicly.

QUOTE (Real @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Keep telling yourselves Danks, Buehrle and Floyd are parts of a great starting rotation when Danks forgets how to throw strikes at the end of every season, Floyd always has a mid-season injury he tries to hide until it pushes him to miss whole starts, and our divisional rivals light up Buehrle every year like a Christmas tree I don't see the results from this rotation to warrant calling them great, or LOL...last off-season, 'top 3 in baseball' Um, that is terrible logic. Every rotation and almost any starting pitcher can have a "what if" tag placed in front of them/him. When you have 4 starting pitchers capable of being lights out and Mark Buehrle as easily your 5th best pitcher you have one of the top rotations in the league.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Come on. He was more than serviceable when he was healthy and we got more out of him than we thought we would (and I am grateful for that), but he wasn't that good. For a 5th starter in the American League? Yeah, he was pretty good at his role. Almost any team would have taken him as their 5th starter this season.
