  1. Not true. While Canada chose to keep ties with Britain, it is its own self-governing dominion. They were granted legal INDEPENDENCE on July 1st 1867. The only tie is that Queen Elizabeth technically is their queen as well. It may seem like a small difference, but the difference between the relationship between the U.S. and Puerto Rico and the relationship between Canada and Britain is significant. Puerto Rico has never been granted independence. They govern themselves for the most part, but legally the have never received independence from the U.S. like Canada did from Britain
  2. So when it says: Dependency Status: Commonwealth of the U.S. Independence: none (commonwealth associated with the US) Constitution: ratified 3 March 1952; approved by US Congress 3 July 1952; effective 25 July 1952 Legal system: based on Spanish civil code and within the US Federal system of justice Suffrage: 18 years of age; universal; island residents are US citizens but do not vote in US presidential elections Executive branch: chief of state: President George W. BUSH of the US Sure sounds like its a separate country to me too
  3. you are NOT a state and neither is Guam. You are both possessions, or territories, of the United States. Just cuz you arent a state doesnt make you a country
  4. Michaelr Redd, yes. But Ray Allen and Vince Carter and Rip Hamilton were all asked and all said no or backed out. Even someone like a Brent Barry/Rashard Lewis/Bruce Bowen/Derek Fisher would have been a good pick since they are very good from outside
  5. it was only a matter of time for Petit. The paper has been hinting he'd be getting called any day now, especially now that Kazmir and Peterson are gone. Petit has had amazing numbers this year, and he's younger than BMac too. Both look to have huge upsides
  6. nice to see another one of our prospects getting some recognition. I'm realy excited to see where BMac starts next year and how he fares
  7. I agree. I dont even know why we got Robbie anyways, it was a waste. With the season over, we might as well give Willie some PT, He's proven he can play, its just a matter of whether he develops into a player who can play a more significant role or not. I dont get why he is losing playing time to Alomar. Does anyone know who that PTBNL might be anyways?
  8. yo Randar whats up? Havent seen you in a long time back in the old ESPN days
  9. Holy s***. I didnt think Grilli would be THIS bad! :puke
  10. Never tried the Lime one. I just had the grape one and i actually liked it. Id rank them: 1) Regular 2) Grape 3) Cherry 4) Orange *from first to worst*
  11. Me too. Just last week I got one of those PMs out of the blue as well. I kinda didnt know what to think. It came out of nowehere and him and I havent seen eye to eye on pretty much anything. I read the whole thread, but I still dont really see what happened, nor why people are making such a big deal out of this, on both sides
  12. What the f*** does THAT have to do with anything??? :headshake
  13. I'd like to see Valdez, Nelson, Baj and Taylor up here. Valdez, Baj and Taylor to see how they do to see if maybe they can help next year and Nelson as a reward for a good year.
  14. where do you guys play this?
  15. I'd go with Valdez as an extra infielder and I would also call up Yan strictly as a pinch runner late in games. Diaz will probably get called up as will Wunsch. Potentially Torres or Taylor as an extra OF just in case, but i doubt we see many others
  16. I just read 1066: The Year of the Invasion by David Howarth. It's very interesting and for a history fan it gives a lot of information that is not commonly told in classes, shows, etc...
  17. Those are pretty cool uniforms. Hopefully MLB 2006 includes some Negro League unis in it
  18. Is there even a deadline? I know August 31st is the last date to add players to your post-season roster but couldnt you still make a trade in September and they just cant play in the post-season?
  19. I doubt it, he isnt the player he once was. I'd say he could be had fairly cheaply
  20. I disagree. Nomar hasnt been himself this year and St. Louis is a dam good club. With Finley going to the Dodgers and the Marlins and Phillies getting better, plus the Cubs pitching injury problems, they are definitely not the favorite in my mind. I'd put them in a group of 3 or 4 teams that are about equal, all behind the Cards
  21. We have time. People like a Larry Walker will probably make it through waivers
