  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/brazil-leaders-meet-...-054213617.html I wonder if any of this stuff will effect WC or Olympics. I know there have been some Brazilian reporters suggesting the World Cup should be moved to the US or Italy since. The odds of that actually happening are probably around 1% but still, it says something that reporters from arguably the soccer obsessed country in the world are suggesting that it should be moved away from them.
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Bristol now has Jake Brown at shortstop. Sent down from Kanny where he was hitting .316. Don't get it, since there are 3-4 other SS's on the Bristol roster. Of course, this clears the way for Tim Anderson to get all the PT at Kanny. And, I hope Bristol does better than last year. You answered your own question. Needed to make room for Anderson. Brown isn't much of a prospect either. He hit well but in limited at bats. He'll see time in Bristol.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) (You're really not buying dinosaurs. You're buying algae that lived at the time of the dinosaurs). AKA dinosaur algae
  4. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) So The Last of Us is an awesome game, huh? Gonna got out and get me a copy this weekend. About the XBox One vs PS4 situation, I've been a PlayStation guy since 96 and nothing about the XBox makes want to switch consoles. Also, I must be in the decided minority that actually perfers the Sony controller to the XBox. Not a fan of Halo either, I've played it at my nephew's house and I thought it was meh, as long as I can get my CoD fix, I'm good to go... No I agree. I've also always been a PS guy and whenever I played games with my friends on Xbox I hated it. Maybe just because I'm used to it, but to me, PS's controller design is perfect.
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Wiki shows CR playing their other WCQ matches at the new stadium but shows the US game at Saprissa. Also ussoccer.com has it listed at Saprissa. I'm pretty positive the game was originally going to be at the new stadium but was switched after the snow game. It's been all over twitter if you follow the right people. Do a little digging and you'll find that a few weeks ago it was announced the game will not be played there anymore. Yes, they announced it for Saprissa immediately following the Denver game but that's supposedly not going to work out anymore. Don't trust wikipedia on this one.
  6. QUOTE (MEANS @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 08:40 AM) That was one crazy game last night between Japan and Italy. Some very nice goals, 2 bs penalty calls, and an own goal. Japan looked really good. Italy pulls out the win despite looking a bit tired. Japan is going to start surprising people in the coming years. They have completely revamped their development programs starting about 8-10 years ago and we'll see if it starts to pay off soon, but they do have some nice young players on that roster. Very technically sound.
  7. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) no, the game is being played at Saprissa. No, they're not
  8. So Ronald Bellisario just made one of the worst plays you'll ever see http://msti.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/be...06-19.gif?w=450
  9. FWIW, A buddy of mine is a huge Orioles fan and he's mentioned multiple times now that he's heard the Orioles have been making calls on some of our pitchers. They definitely have some pieces in their farm system I wouldn't mind getting our hands on.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) The US never plays well in Costa Rica and they are playing the game at that hellhole Saprissa, so doubtful US qualifies then, but it's nice to have them in such a good position already. Costa Rica did not get approval to use it so the match will be played at their new national stadium, so that's a definite plus for the US QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) This. With two of the most difficult matches ahead in the next set of qualifiers, it is very nice for the US to be sitting 5 points clear of third and six clear of 4th. Get any points in the next set (@Costa Rica, home Mexico), and they will still be in great shape as far as qualifying goes. Jozy Altidore with just a beastly June. Will be interesting to see what happens with his club career because, between his club form (31 goals this year), his recent international form (4 goals in 4 games), and his age (23), there will be a lot of clubs with interest. Hopefully he lands in a good spot because there is not much (any) depth behind him at striker as of today, and the year before a World Cup is not an ideal time for Jozy to be trying to find playing time somewhere... Jozy is in for a big move this summer and this past month did nothing but help that. I've read that several EPL teams are interested and have also heard rumors about Schalke, Fiorentina and Lazio. Wherever he goes, hopefully he earns a spot in the first XI. We need him playing on a regular basis
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) Next matchday is September 6. If the US beats Costa Rica and Mexico/Honduras tie, the US is qualified with three games to spare. Qualifying before the last set of match days would be huge so we can send some younger players (Boyd, Shea, Corona etc) to Panama
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) It's about the normal time for that for him anyway right? Gives him a shot at earning a callup in the middle of next season if he keeps it up and I'd be ok with that schedule. Yes. This is his 5th year of MiLB and he'll need to be protected going into next season. I can't see that decision taking more than half a second to make.
  13. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 07:21 AM) Way to go, Kenny. :
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) Thanks for posting this, I was sorta wondering if there was a game tonight. There's a game. Whether the White Sox show up still remains to be seen
  15. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) I think we see 4 future sox in '14 before september. Flowers is on a heater right now I imagine they're going to give him all the opportunities in the world to see what they really have, so Phegley won't be coming up baring injury till Sept. I foresee Ramirez being traded at the deadline or in the offseason and if Beckham can continue to be league average I think they give him one final look at SS, with that happening and possibly a decent showing the in the second half and AFL and spring maybe just maybe Sanchez gets the start at 2B. Peavy will be moved soon and I think we see Johnson get pushed up to AAA after the ASB and breaking with the sox next season with the sox dealing Axelrod for a low floor high celing project former top prospect [mariners are littered with them]. That leaves Trayce if he continues his hot hitting i think he will finish the year in Charlotte and could push for CF after Rios gets moved in the near future. I doubt they move Erik Johnson to AAA. They've historically not been afraid to call up pitchers straight from AA and I believe if we see him in Chicago that's where he'll come up from. Also, Thompson should spend the whole year in AA. He's just 22. No need to rush him, especially since he hasn't exactly been tearing the cover off the ball (although he has played very well in the last month).
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) It's an incredibly stupid "nickname", by the way, especially when a much simpler/better one is staring everyone in the face: XBOneD. That said, it's not out yet, as many of you have gone over already. My initial impression of it is negative, however, but so was my initial impression of the 360, which I thought was better than the PS3, with a much better gaming network. That is neither simpler or better
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) You think I nicknamed it that? My god, try going on the internet every once in a while. And yes, I think it's fair to say we have no idea what the online will be like, yet we know what all the specs are for both, we know the policies in place for both, we know the prices of both, we know the capabilities of both. One of the few unknowns here is how the online experiences will be. Hilarious. Way to go. You are the most combative person ever. Relax.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130617 Johnson starting. Thompson 3-3 (all singles)
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Trayce's 2nd homer http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...89&sid=milb His swing looked so effortless.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) He has been horrible offensively. I'm not writing him off, but he has been horrible this year and that is disappointing. By no means do I think he is a lost cause. I'm not going to argue he's been good offensively. But I'm not calling the youngest player in the league hitting .230 horrible. There are guys in the majors with worse averages than that. He's 20 years old still. It is way too early to judge him.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Carlos Sanchez has been really disappointing this year. He's 20 years old in AAA. Offensively he hasn't been horrible and from reading accounts his defense has been very good. Let him play in Charlotte this year and next and see if he can play in the majors at the old age of 22 in 2015.
  22. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) I just can't see how Hawkins staying in High A and striking out at such a ridiculously high rate is a what's best for him. His K rate is absurd. Pitchers in full season A ball leagues are essentially the same. No point in sending him down. WHatever the issues in W-S would remain in Kanny
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) Yep. A top 5 pick would be great. There's not a chance they finish worse than Houston or Miami though. I still think when all is said and done a pick in the 7 to 10 range is where the Sox end up. What does the top 5 in next years draft look like prospect-wise?
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) Asdrubal Cabrera Joking right? The same Asdrubal Cabrera who has put up a UZR of -5, -5.5, -11, -7.7 and -4.5 over the past five years? He has a career UZR/150 at SS of -9.8. He's actually not good at all, but since he's made some highlight reel plays in the last couple seasons and landed on SportsCenter all of a sudden people think he's got a good glove
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 07:59 AM) https://mobile.twitter.com/IsPhegleyUpYet I'm not sure if any of the FutureSox people can verify, but is this really Josh Phegley's twitter account? His handle is shown as "IsPhegleyUpYet" and he's bashing Tyler Flowers on there. I really hope this isn't his Twitter account, because ripping on another player in your organization and potential future teammate is incredibly stupid. I get that he feels he deserves to be called up, but b****ing and moaning about it on the internet is definitely not the right approach. Do you actually believe that is his account?
