They have a lot of RHB, but Toronto is bottom 5 in team SLG and not much better in HR. Just need to avoid giving them free bases to cash in on.

Toronto RHP Spencer Miles isn't a true starter (3 starts in 26 appearances) but a swing guy who can go ~4 innings if needed. He has a heavy sinker that generates plus ground ball rates. The hope is that our lefty heavy lineup can get to him before he settles in too much and put some pressure on the Toronto pen for the rest of the series. The Sox saw him in the April series, where he pitched 2 scoreless innings (2 H, 2 K) in a 3-0 Sox win.

Very cool for him, and also can't hurt the Sox' growing profile in Japan.

Maybe, but I don't think he will be had for cheap. Angels were saying they didn't want to move him (or Soriano) last month when he looked like a great chip, so I doubt they would settle for a lower value now as Boston, Detroit, etc. getting back in the mix only makes it even more of a sellers' market.

I'm pretty disinterested in Detmers for what his cost is likely to be. One season of 100+ IP with < 4 ERA in his career, so the upside is limited. And for folks who are worried about Martin's recent fatigue signaling regression, well... Career 4.69 ERA, 4.39 on the season, 4.55 in his last 10 starts, but because he's 27 with two arb years left (and had 3 great starts in June) I've seen packages like Schultz/Hagen + Carlson + Bergolla thrown out there for him. That's an enthusiastic no from me.

Tarps off, slamming 'za on the lake with the boys lol I'm sure he would have gotten on well enough anywhere, but there does seem to be a special spark to how well/quickly he meshed here.

Appreciate Kenzo's diplomacy, but I also kind of love the attitude. These White Sox aren't fighting for the approval of anyone other than the guys in the room. Side note, it's gotta be a pretty fun whirlwind year for Kenzo too. Probably didn't expect to be walking the ASG red carpet and facilitating conversations with the national media and other MLB stars in his first year. Japanese fans seem really complimentary of him compared to other interpreters around MLB (though some think Shohei's previous guy might have been a little bettor...)
