White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
Has anyone mentioned that Clev is buds with a Sox minority owner? Never heard of this Ben Pogofsky character, but seems to be the failson of Larry Pogofsky who sat on the Board of Directors from 1981 until his death in 2010. This guy is notable for trying to steal a collection of autographed baseballs that were willed to his brother. What a bunch of winners we've got running this team

Grossman up, Jimenez over, Speas out
It's just baffling. Couldn't DFA one of the 30 useless relievers on this team? Maybe he's a slimeball or something, he didn't last very long in spring training, but aren't they filling his slot with a confirmed slimeball? Same as Mena, I can't understand the logic behind trading talented young players for old guys who demonstrably suck and serve no purpose. I'm no wunderkind baseball mind like Chris Getz is, but that sounds like the opposite of what a baseball team should do.

Popeye was DFA'd too for some reason. I didn't even realize he was on the roster. He's also a good player, 22-years-old, who was cut for Mike Clevinger. A terrible decision to compound an even stupider decision. I was really trying to be 'glass half full' about this season but they're making it very hard.

The moment this all started
The Pistons have whiffed on every high pick they've had outside of the 2012 draft, it isn't just Darko. They should have Booker and Giannis on their team. Ironically, the front office that drafted Darko actually knew what it was doing; they won the finals that year, lost in the finals the next year, and went to the conference finals the following three years. Darko probably would've been the right pick if he actually cared about basketball, he was incredibly talented. Anyway, I guess that's all beside the point but I can't imagine what this team is accomplishing if Soler and Canha are on the roster. I know it's not my money, but it still seems like a waste of it. My hope is that the money saved this year is reinvested when the team is actually ready to compete, hopefully next season but realistically 2026. Say what you will about JR, but there seems to be a track record of that sort of thing happening. I co-sign your sentiments about Fletcher, I wouldn't have traded for him, I just also wouldn't replace him with a 30something free agent in a dead year. I probably would've picked the guy who's already on the team making no money, is 25-years-old, and is incredibly talented (Oscar Colás).

Jake Burger
Big fan of Burger and have watched a bunch of Marlins games this past week for his sake. Still, if Eder hits, I'd rather have him on the Sox than Max Muncy 2.0. Burger's production is easier to replace than a potential ace with full team control. Still, Eder has to perform and he's running out of time to prove he's a Major League baseball player. it was a high risk/reward trade that might fizzle out, but there are several guys in the minors ready to take Burger's spot and no one who can do what Eder might be able to do.

Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
I went to eat dinner and it was 2-1. what the f*** happened
-
Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
that was the most annoying home run trot I've ever watched

Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
he's performed as well as I would've expected so far and is doing what he was tasked to do: generate weak contact and grounders. I think he'll start hitting his spots better over time. Whether or not that's a sustainable recipe for success is debatable but I can't quibble too much with the pitching/defense thus far.

Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
The Royals broadcast is funny. They're just talking about all the guys on the Sox who used to play for them

Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
an outfielder with an average arm throws him out

Sox @ KC Royals 4/4/24 6:40 central start
the saving grace is that somebody has to get on base first in order to GIDP.

2025 Old Sock Drawer
my comment aged poorly. 2 for 2, 2 homers, 2 walks, 2 runs. Marlins sink to 0-8.

Charlotte Knights/Mendick victims of 26 run Norfolk/Orioles attack
Hey the offense was good and the pitchers that blew it probably weren't joining the team anyway. Baltimore's AAA lineup is nutso though. 90% of that roster should be in the MLB, some of them should be playing for the White Sox

White Sox TV Contract and Something Else.
Reinsdorf's 'Stadium' network is already on a few streaming platforms. One thinks it becomes that much more desirable if it is the exclusive carrier of Chicago's non-ursine sports teams. I think the "network" had rights to some college sports and distributed it through Facebook. Something tells me we could be watching the White Sox on Twitch in a couple years.

Burger's transformation from slugger into BABIP merchant is interesting. He's batting .310 to start the season but only .667 OPS. No homers. In 291 plate appearances with the Marlins (including spring training), he's hit 11 home runs. Compare that to 323 plate appearances with the Sox last year and 25 home runs. I hope he can figure out how to hit for power and average at the same time.

ESPN ranks Sox 29th in watchability
Bold of you to think this listicle wasn't written by an AI. Actually, I'm sure it was. ESPN publishes a bunch of these 'lists' that involve the author doing a little bit of math and creating an index in order to arrive at the rankings. They're stupid rankings and another pointless iteration of a story we've read 1000 times (the Sox suck), yet something tells me the average ESPN writer isn't doing any amount of math and is instead asking his chatbot "create an index ranking how fun to watch the MLB teams are'.

I knew it could be done...win a major league baseball game.

4/2: Sox vs. Braves @ 640CT - Crochet v. Reylo (weather permitting)
ReyLo getting into trouble or triple play incoming?

4/2: Sox vs. Braves @ 640CT - Crochet v. Reylo (weather permitting)
Crochet is making some very good hitters look very silly.

White Sox bring Mike Clevinger back, pending physical
The Sox retained the salaries of everyone else they traded, why would it be any different for Clev? $4mil in cash was not the difference between trading Clevinger or not.

Benetti returns to Chicago...
Is he world class? Our new guy did games in Korea. That's a place in the world. I'm not convinced Jason has ever left the midwest. Jokes aside, who gives a s%*# if the guy who says "ball 1, strike 2" is world class. His job is, as I understand it, to be as un-annoying as possible and root on the home team. He didn't do either of those things particularly well. I don't care if he's good at talking about football on Fox, he was a dud with the Sox. He's a diva to boot, very egotistical. Ya know, the Bulls PBP guy is on a similar national/local deal as Benetti, he just doesn't go out of his way to publicly denigrate the organization he works for. Good riddance, I don't care if JR agrees with me, broken clock is right every so often, etc.

2024 MLB News not AL Central related
I'm still of the opinion that Hackenberg is going to be the starting catcher on this team. That guy is very good on both sides and still improving but nobody thinks of him as a proper prospect. Which I guess is to say I think this organization has enough catchers. Bart is an OK player but why is SFG DFAing him? Why can't he back up their young guy, Bailey? They couldn't trade him?

3/31 GT - Sox vs. Tigers (1:10pm)
I think the players did that. Or maybe you credit Grifol for putting Shewmake in the lineup and keeping him there. The Leone decision was a head-scratcher to me, that situation had Kopech’s name written all over it. I think all I can assess Grifol on so far, from a fan’s perspective, is his bullpen decisions. I think that’s the difference between 1-2 and 0-3 and I wonder how that adds up across 162 games. I missed the end of today’s game so I didn’t watch Kopech pitch but I hope if they’re using him out of the bullpen, it’s in high leverage situations where he can maybe go multiple innings. This guy has incredible stuff and is used to a starter’s workload, give him a 2 or 3 inning close.
