They seem like separate things (the ‘expectations’ vs organizational mismanagement) but the former is harder to quantify how it’s impacted Kopech’s career and other players in a similar boat. It might have an effect, thinking you’re destined for greatness, what if that means that as an individual Kopech thinks he can take it easy relative to his peers or is otherwise burdened by the expectations? it’s a real thing because draft busts can turn it around once they mentally mature. I don’t know what goes on in Kopech’s head, but media reports suggest he needs to grow up. Maybe this is a wake up call that it’s time to take his career seriously. I still think he has the tools to be a very good starting pitcher, is the fact that his secondary arsenal is predictable and can’t be thrown for strikes a problem because of him or the Sox or both?

I think it’s risky to expect Burger to continue producing like this and to be this healthy. Time will tell I guess, and early returns suggest I’m wrong. I hope he does turn into a great player. I think his skillset is more replaceable than Eder’s though. Now Eder just has to not have a 15 ERA or whatever it is currently.

Muncy walks at nearly a three times higher rate and it stands to reason that Jake's batting average will look closer to Muncy's than it will to his current MIA batting average. I'm not watching every Marlins game but .373 babip with Miami vs .225 with Chicago leads me to believe he's getting a little lucky. The fact that he plays every day over Segura doesn't really say anything because Segura is a terrible player who I was completely wrong in thinking the Sox should've signed. Burger's a better player than Moncada too, but will cost actual money by the time it matters again, and in my opinion isn't good enough or versatile enough to worry about keeping around. is he truly that much better than Eloy (who might also be a better trade piece next season than this one)? why not just sign max muncy? Truly, I don't know how to project Eder but I'm just saying I don't fault the decision to sell high on Burger for starting pitching.

They’ve kept winning. Definitely did not anticipate cubs and brewers winning as often and as convincingly as they have.

My opinion is that it’s Ramos or a free agent or realistically it’s Montgomery and we need a SS. Burger’s defense is too bad to play the field anywhere except 1B. His power is gone in Miami, his BABIP will regress to the mean — or at least turn into something halfway sustainable. It was a mistake paying eloy to be a perma dh, best not to make the mistake again.

Last game I watched, they clocked Eder’s fastball at 91 early in the game. I don’t know what recovery from TJ is like or what to expect when, but one thinks he’ll look a lot better when and if his velocity recovers. I still don’t hate the trade. Burger can produce like this for a few years “under team control” but the Sox aren’t going to win and don’t need a permanent dh. Take the risk on a left handed starter

I think the only reason not to cut Yaz is that it might be a good signal to agents/players that they’ll let him play out his contract. Seby is “controllable” but he also sucks. Hackenberg is major league ready and couldn’t possibly be any worse.

I think employee morale is as bad as team morale. Some old guy snapped at me because I didn’t assume that his job with the team was solely to open up people’s beer cans. I said I’d do it myself and he got incredibly offended.

Maybe, but what's the point of saying "I'm not gonna watch next year" when everyone knows that's a lie. As far as I can tell, the only reason to hate Getz is that Jerry Reinsdorf likes him and that he doesn't come from a different organization. Maybe he'll actually be good at the job, at least in terms of hiring and signing the right people, I have no way of knowing. I do already like his credentials better than Hahn in that he actually played professional baseball. Like others have said, the process by which he was selected was a total sham and it wouldn't surprise me if it violated a number of league rules. Nonetheless, I think it goes without saying that literally anyone else would've been better than keeping Williams and Hahn around another year. A disappointing hire for this role doesn't change my optimism that the team could maybe trend in a better direction under new leadership. Like I said, it literally could not get any worse.

I guess I didn't put two and two together that this public health threat is also a public safety one. This whole thing is genuinely the most American thing I've ever heard.

The legitimacy is a good point actually and the Donovan hire signaled that as well, but it remains to be seen if it attracts any players worth a damn. The trades they made has hamstrung us and even if I'm a fan of DeMar, I think it was a mistake to tie up that much money (and get rid of a first round draft pick) in a guy with his playstyle...ie a ballhog that doesn't mesh with the other ballhog commanding maximum money or the $20mil player who also needs the ball to be effective. The other ballhog, Lavine, could be the perfect off-ball shooting guard, Rip Hamilton or Ray Allen on steroids, but either the coach doesn't want him to do that or he doesn't listen to the coach. The new front office mortgaged the future to get 'win now' guys who simply weren't good enough or fit together well. Poor roster construction and they gave away a ton of first round picks to achieve less than GarPax. The Lauri trade and betting on Pat Williams was the biggest boneheaded move, Lauri's success really did not come out of no where, he showed he had this ability his first season before he was relegated by Billy to spot-up three point shooter. At least Boylen was smart enough to let him get rebounds and carry the ball up the floor. We gave up an all-star starter at our weakest position for a pick that will probably convey as two second round picks (correct me if I'm wrong about this but I think that's how the lottery protection was structured). Anyway, bball rant over. As I said, the point about legitimacy is a good one (both to players and fans) if the Sox hire a reputable executive from outside the organization (and hopefully division). I would just be cautious that the grass is always greener. Maybe Getz would actually be good at the job, how should I know?

honestly, I don't believe it. I bet the 'sources' are people who don't really know but are making an educated guess based on what they know about Reinsdorf and have whatever credentials needed to function as a source so that Morosi can cook up a tweet and keep his job a little longer. I think the shakeup that happened to the Bulls a few years ago is the best predictor of how this front office search will go. If you don't follow the NBA, the Bulls similarly had a two-headed President/GM monster making decisions and stepping on each other's shoes that was left in charge way too long. Eventually, they were fired (Paxson 'demoted' to consultant) and they hired an up-and-coming executive from a team outside the conference and let him hire a GM to handle day-to-day stuff. Maybe that was a Michael Reinsdorf decision and Jerry is still stuck in his ways (or sees how going outside the org actually made the Bulls worse off...they are indeed a worse team under the new administration with no immediate path to success), but I believe more so that they will actually take a look at executives in other orgs. Doesn't mean they won't hire Getz, I just don't believe all these tweets that seem frankly derivative of the original Nightengale report (ie whatever Reinsdorf wants the public to think).

How does someone even sneak a gun into the ballpark? They check inside even the tiniest purse. They opened up my cigarette pack to see if I was smuggling something in there. spray bullet from the outside sounds hard to imagine but I know I would’ve noticed a gun shot 3 sections away. People nearby wouldn’t have just gone about their business complaining about how bad Dylan cease is. It does sound hard to believe but there are shootings in the area often enough and it doesn’t strike me as surprising that some dumbass kids might’ve been firing strays at the stadium from wentworth. It’s hidden enough right there between the park and the freeway, you’re not doing that on 35th with all the police activity. I also can’t believe somebody snuck a gun into the ballpark. I also don’t know how a bullet could travel that far and not hit something on the concourse before it reached people. Very fascinating story altogether, doesn’t change my opinion of going to sox games but I’m sure it makes people feel more emboldened that a baseball team can’t be on the south side

It’s hard to say because I would have left if I had known, but I imagine a “crush” situation could have been a lot deadlier. I don’t know what information the staff or ballpark police had, but I guess the right course of action was taken honestly. I can assure there was no parkwide panic.

eloy hit a home run to us.....right when we got up to use the restroom. naturally. still a fun game except I never noticed how fat every white sox fan is. i doubt cubs fans are any better. i think everyone in chicago is just obese. sadder than losing to the a's.
