We have hope, we got The Pope!
On a personal level, I'm anti-dome since I love the impact the elements can play on a sport traditionally played outdoors. And I don't mind sitting in the rain or cold, I might even prefer it since there are likely fewer people in the park and I can wander around/sit where I want more freely. On the other hand, I'm sure a temperature-controlled climate would appeal to players (ie free agents we might want to sign) and help produce a larger fanbase. Rainouts would be a thing of the past. I think the positives of a dome outweigh the negatives, perhaps even from an economic perspective. I also like the idea of adaptive reuse and the current park is in fine shape, it would be wasteful and ecologically insensitive to construct a brand new park. I think a dome on an already-built park is more aligned with the political goals of Illinoisans than a brand new park is.

Seems sacrilegious if that sort of thing bothers you. Doesn't bother me but the whole thing just seems kinda lame.

Guy is used to it. I remember these AZ high school athletes used to walk around with a gallon of water to all of their classes lol.

Pitchers just kinda find it, huh (sean burke rules)
Burke was a beast last season. Which is to say, I think you could've watched him last year and not be surprised about what he's doing now. I was more surprised at Martin's start than I am about this stretch from Burke. I dunno that it relates to Schultz though. He hasn't even shown flashes to me at the MLB level. Andrew Painter has a 7 ERA and is a similar kind of prospect as Schultz, but he is at least showing flashes of why he was rated so highly. I have more faith in Smith than I do Schultz at the moment. Not saying he won't figure it out or be an elite pitcher, but they got to get this guy off the MLB team for his own good.

It's not that it's uncool it's that half the userbase is in arrested development and the other half is chatbots. It's a wonderful website if you want to discuss children's books with obese men in their 30s and dozens of Legend of Zelda themed tattoos. Or incels. Lots and lots of incels. They even have femcels. Those forums are funny and worth reading if you want insight into the lives being led by terminally online zoomers. Which I sometimes do.

lol I think he's a fine pitcher, his breaking stuff is nasty, I just think it's wild for a rebuilding team (the White Sox) to give up big assets for someone who is at best a third starter. The focus is on Detmers because that's the only guy this board will talk about. And is a realistic acquisition unlike Skubal. We've been burned by this idea too many times before. Teams get burned this way all the time. I think they're going to be more shrewd this deadline. Look what it took to get Connelly Early, that's closer to Detmers's value meanwhile I think some among us are valuing him closer to Crochet. It just seems like a misevaluation of his talent level regardless of the control or whatever. There's a very realistic chance that we jettison several of our top prospective talents and still finish 4th place in the division even if Detmers is lights out the rest of the season as a Sock. Urquidy and Haase are nice pickups to me for the state this team is in. I'm OK with giving up real assets for a player like Hunter Goodman. Don't rush the rebuild!

I like the profile more. Groundballer with big stuff. More well-rounded arsenal. Proven success. Same age, same control. Detmers has arguably the best slider in the league, but that's all he's got. His fastball and changeup are some of the worst among starters. If the league figures out the breaking pitches (stop chasing it), his walk rate balloons along with the FIP.

I can just about guarantee you that no MLB front office thinks Reid Detmers is anywhere close to a high end SP. His upside is mid rotation and is historically a swingman. He only has one pitch that's actually good, it seems more realistic to expect that he's a setup man more than a #1 or even #2 starter. This 'peripherals' discussion tends to be overstated; perhaps some of the indicators are occasionally correlated to future success when the player is, like, 22-years-old. At a certain point, a player has enough of a track record that you can just look at the numbers at face value. Guy is 27 and in his 6th MLB season. His so-called 'peripherals' were better out of the bullpen anyway and he still pitched to a 4 ERA. Some of the offers discussed here are better value than what the Sox got for Cease and approaching the Crochet haul. And I bet you the Red Sox wish they didn't make that trade. I'm sure they'd be much happier with Teel, Braden, Chase, Wikelman, Early than Crochet and Mead (even if they weren't injured). I mean, if 4.61 ERA Detmers nets you the #2 and #3 players in the system (51 and 57 overall) + another piece, the Sox would be complete fools not to trade one or both of Davis Martin and Sean Burke. Both of those guys are much better and have more control, so maybe you're talking about 2 top 20 prospects, right? If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Detmers staying put because he won't command anywhere close to what you're speculating. I also think it would be a fucking shame if the Sox trade real assets for Detmers or a guy like him just to pitch 30-40 innings the rest of the way and for the Sox to finish in 4th place because the season is almost over and starting pitchers only play baseball once every 5 days and a 4th starter with 6-8 starts left isn't moving the needle. It's a very realistic outcome. As an aside, Soriano is also better than Detmers and I think there's a racial component as to why he is not viewed as favorably. Targeting that guy seems like a way better idea to me.

A lot less. Lodise or Bergolla or someone of that tier (who is not underperforming and undervalued, ie Oppor) should be the headliner. Bergolla and Mogollon seem like nice pieces to me but have a difficult path to the MLB roster and don't clearly show star upside the way that Carlson or Smith do (and Bonemer obviously but he's going no where). A guy whose upside is 'mid rotation starter' but has shown over 6 MLB seasons to be a 5th starter/swingman type is not returning a top 50 prospect and more.

Mike Vasil "The Wizard"
That's a funny bit but a missed opportunity for Getz to say that the league is cracking down on the use of arcane instruments in dugouts. Also, I'm having a premonition that 15,000 of these wands are going to end up on the field of play.

Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
The obligation to the fans is to create a sustainable, winning organization. This writer, along with many fans, seemingly wants to reproduce the 2020 White Sox. That obligation he writes about is actually to shareholders, acquire some flashy name to sell more tickets, meanwhile the farm is depleted in exchange for maybe 2 extra wins in a rebuilding year. This article is boomer ragebait, I'd be offended by that "the fans aren't getting any younger" talk, like you guys are all about to keel over and this is your last chance to see the White Sox win 87 games.

Gonzo & Eisert Traded to Pirates for Comp Pick and Jaden Woods
If Gonzalez ever produces more than 2 OWAR in a season, I'll eat my words, but a first round pick and the extra draft money is so so much more valuable.

Crazy thought: Pick up Taillon?
I think the Sox would be on the hook for his giant contract right? All for it if he gets released.

And his real woba is sandwiched between Andrew Benintendi and Jarred Kelenic. Baseball Savant isn't registering that xwoba as statistically significant. Neither is his .200 batting average, right, but more in line with the player that he actually is. An MLB player to be sure, just not a particularly good one.
