3/30 Game thread. Sox at Marlins 5:40 CDT
Charlotte has a lot of good pitchers. Disappointed Welkommen started down there after a solid rookie campaign.

Dunno why he didn't just throw Acuña 3 changeups in the dirt

wow!! and they say he's not a good defender. feels like Martin has thrown about 80 pitches. surprised he's under 50.

it's a better approach than small ball anyway.

The offense is solid. I'm still bullish on 70ish wins if the pitching staff can figure things out.

home runs, swinging bunts, this guy does it all.

I don't think it's the same kinda 'logjam' because this time there are several shortstops (including Roch in this discussion) who, if they pan out, ought to fit somewhere in the infield. You wouldn't move Carlson off SS, you hope Bonemer starts playing some left, you might think Roch plays third because he's not injury prone the way Colson has been thus far. I think Colson should be playing SS right now instead of Acuña, but it's a reasonable assumption to think he'll move off the position in several years.

yeah but there are better defensive options in the pipeline without bad backs. it just seems inevitable.

hope not. the guy could be a perennial gold glover with actual power. the bat remains to be seen in professional ball. realistically (and unfortunately) Colson is probably trade bait by the time Carlson debuts.

I think Carlson is the SS of the future if he can even sorta hit. I see Colson at 1B inevitably.

my problem is Tristan Peters is getting regular reps in CF and pushing Meidroth out of the lineup. Meidroth is actually hitting. Peters is off to a fine start over 3 games, but I don't think he's earned more ABs than Meidroth. Acuña is supposed to be the CF.

Put up time...
"Too many shortstops" seems like a pretty dumb take though. A shortstop can play any other non-catcher position, and most right-handed, good athletes play shortstop before they reach professional baseball. Drafting shortstops is much better practice than drafting first basemen. There were like three more shortstops we should've drafted before taking Hagen.

Genuinely think the Knights might beat the Sox in a 3 game series.

White Sox trade Curtis Mead to Nationals for minor league C Boston Smith
Picking a guy up off the dfa/release scrap heap and getting a 6th round pick out of it is ultimately a net positive move. This Smith guy has some impressive peripherals even if it came against relatively weak college competition. Can’t be mad that teams aren’t valuing Houser, Yoendrys, Fedde like they’re star talents. Which in a roundabout way leads me to think Katz should’ve kept his job and who knows if this new pitching coach is any good/can work the same kind of magic with marginal talent.

Sox @ Brewers 3/28 6:10PM
Weird lineup. Why are Quero, Vargas and Hays all on the bench the second game of the season? Because they bat right-handed I guess, but Venable is being too cute with platoons, just play the better players.

White Sox sign Reese McGuire, Korey Lee won't make MLB roster
I thought it took 5 days. Unless every other team passed on him? Can we assume Mead also cleared waivers?
