Through one of their friendly media suck-ups, who could use the extra money.

Maybe Reinsdorf didn’t ok the leak. Maybe the story wasn’t leaked by the Sox at all. Maybe the Cubs leaked it. The Cubs certainly can’t be doing cartwheels over the possibility of this deal coming to fruition. The Cubs and their fans and their sports media lackeys whom they give nice Christmas presents to would be doing cartwheels if the Sox fled the state.

Is he bringing a suitcase big enough to carry home one billion dollars?

With the Bears losing their land assessment appeal don’t be surprised if they (the bears) take over the 78 development plan tossing the Sox back to square one.

And I’ll add that the media here in Chicago, especially the sports media, for the most part, are thrilled at the prospect of the sox fleeing elsewhere. Taking heads on radio are begging them to go.

You can equate Reinsdorf with mediocrity but you cannot but the label in a new ownership group unto you see what they’d be capable of…..outside of Chicago. The 35th and Shields site has mediocracy written all over it. I really don’t think the MLB gives a rats ass about whether there is an American League in Chicago or not.

So when this project 78 proposal finally collapses due to Reinsdorf’s inability to get the state financing he wants, he or a soon to be named new ownership, will have other options (fantastic options) in Nashville, Portland, and possibly Honolulu, to name a few. The current site here in Chicago (35th st.) is a backwater compared to other opportunities elsewhere. Jerry may be earnestly “trying” to get this 78 thing done but I believe he knows it a very long shot and he can say, when the curtain finally comes down, that he “truly” tried to keep the Sox in Chicago but failed. Threatening to move is the only leverage he has and he knows this leverage is a long shot but what the hell, might as well give it a try.

Maybe Nashville can support two NFL franchises. The Bears should get in on the very nice weather there also. What’s good for the goose (white Sox) is also good for the gander (Bears).

The media is where all the dramatics will be coming from over taxpayer funding….of any kind.

If it’s true, as is now being reported, that Reinsdorf is asking for one billion dollars from the state of Illinois, then this thing is toast or at least toast with regards to the Sox getting a new stadium at the 78. It was an exiting idea while it lasted but this latest development, if true, is the kiss of death. Even if a one billion dollar kick in by the state would reap an eventual windfall for the state, no politician is going to touch or let alone agree to this. Ain’t happening. Turn out the lights please. Next stop……Nashville?

Ok….. I just don’t see people hanging out there when there is no ballgame. People on either side of the Dan Ryan around Sox park don’t have the disposable incomes that other areas do. I think this area where Sox park not sits along with its parking lots is destined to become a residential area.

The sox may have no other choice but to leave if the bears get the funding instead of the Sox. That funding is the key to everything. Without it the Sox are not viable here for the long run. Why stay?

I think the bottom line is that Bridgeport is just far away from where all the action is in this city. Plus who’s going to trek down there or up there and frequent a “restaurant/bar zone” during the off season or while they’re on the road and the tax revenue would suck compared to the 78 site.

Well, this is both exciting and scary. WGN has confirmed that that the sox and the bears are in competition with each other. Both franchises are hoping any potential new baseball or football facility would be financed (in part) by tapping into a “unique binding clause” that governs the I.S.F.A. If the bears wind up winning this partial financing thingy I believe that would cause the Sox no other choice but to leave Illinois altogether. I hope Reinsdorf has a lot of “friends” in Springfield.

This site would create a whole new neighborhood. Chicago currently has 77 neighborhoods. This would become the 78th. That why it was give the moniker 78x

Yeah, but the Ricketts will give it all they got to beat this back.

The cubs organization and in particular the Ricketts family will be working behind the scenes to make sure this does not happen.

Why won’t Nightingale list his source or is this just his way of helping his buddy Reinsdorf hide the bacon and to take the sizzle out of the story? Anyway, Garfien (hope I’m spelling his name right) said the same thing last thing but specifically added that this was only his opinion of what happened or why the meeting/meal too place.

In his heart of hearts Reinsdorf is still a New York hustler-con artist. He has no empathy for his fan base which he just exhibited by meeting with the Mayor of Nashville (Hooverville on steroids) and then left us in the dark to agonize which he’s probably enjoying. He’s a bully and worships money over anyone and anything. He hasn’t worked for his billions by rather worked the system to a T to his every advantage.

Most of the Sox shareholders bought in at the beginning. Their initial investments are now worth +100 times their initial outlay.

Wasn’t DeBartolo fixated on moving the Sox to Denver? Plus he supposedly had ties to the mafia.
