Agreed. This should be decided in Charlotte in the first few months of the season before he is even called up. That way, you get the extra year of contract and get an idea of where he should be positioned.

Or Getz would be frantically trying to trade Brasier for the most cash considerations offered, along with a 27 year old Single A reliever.

Other teams spend on things like this all the time and still manage to also have a reasonable payroll. The Sox have to do this now because they’ve failed in choosing the wrong front office, scouting, development, and technology for years and years. And we still don’t know if they nailed it this time either. No bonus points granted for that.
