Fuller was dumped, along with bench coach Fredi González, Major League coach José Hernández, and co-hitting coach Matt Borgschulte. They were probably the fall guys for the Orioles offense crapping the bed in the postseason. https://www.mlb.com/news/orioles-making-coaching-staff-changes-for-2025

This is what I think, and it’s mostly due to not wanting to give up on a 1st round pick (#3 overall). Keep in mind that Getz was the Sox director of player development when Vaughn was drafted. Although he may not have been involved directly in drafting Vaughn, his lack of development over the years and having to cut him won’t reflect very well on Getz.
-
If he can get back to his 2022 - 2023 numbers this year, that would be great. Any idea what happened with his strikeouts last year? They were way higher than his norm. I just read that he got much more aggressive in the strike zone.

Will be at 39 once Slater officially signs.
-
Agreed. Getz should be trying to acquire as many one time good prospects in their mid-20’s as possible, not 32-year old Austin Slater’s.
-
I actually wouldn’t be too surprised if this happened. Jerry loves Abreu and cheap contracts. Getz just signed 32-year old Slater already. Seems pretty obvious that dumpster diving for vets is still #1 on Getz’s offseason plan, just like last year.
-
Hopefully not, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
-
I thought he meant 1 year at $4 million. This guy probably isn’t worth $2 million. Wrapping up $10+ million on Vaughn, Sheets, and Slater doesn’t seem like the greatest investment, but it is the White Sox way. Spread out millions amongst several bad players. One contract alone isn’t really that bad, but added all up and it’s like burning millions in a 🔥 on a known quantity of bad players.
-
Probably not, but he deserves about half that amount of money.
-
They need to limit the opposing team to one run to have a chance with their lineup. Hopefully this guy is that damn good.
-
He hasn’t been officially signed yet. He probably needs to take a physical.
-
The case study questions attached to the data analytics job posting were hilarious. It was like Getz snuck in questions he wanted answers on.
-
No way I believe this. I really think he’s gone no matter what he does. Poles has to save his own job at this point.

Trying to find the Tweet from a valid source.

The scariest thing about all of this is that he started an assistant to player development with the Royals in 2014, then had three roles with the Sox as director of player development, assistant GM, and now the GM but he doesn’t seem to be very good at assessing talent, specifically position players. Like you said, he’s always relying on the recommendations of others on which players to acquire, even coaches he ends up firing a week later as in the Vargas trade.

Just wait until you see what a Sheets/Slater platoon can do!

Greg, boxing matches have been fixed throughout history. Have you noticed that Jake Paul has boxed retired NBA players, former MMA fighters, and a YouTuber? Mike Tyson basically got a $20 million dollar payday to “put over” Paul. Jake Paul’s boxing career is about as real as his brother’s wrestling. Why hasn’t he faced an active boxer in his prime? Because it’s all artificially created hype and apparently some people are buying into it.
-
Getz decided to overpay Maldonado on January 5th so I doubt many people would have complained if he held off on some of his dumpster diving signings until February. 🤣
-
But on the flip side, if the Sox lose out on signing Austin Slater, does it really matter at all? The only moves that truly matter for this team are the trades of Crochet and Robert and their young players producing. 32-year old Slater will have little to no impact to the Sox next season.
-
I don’t think Gladney even needs to be protected because I don’t think he gets taken with his strikeout rate. He wouldn’t last on a roster long enough next season to stay with that team.
-
My original point was that Getz is a bit too hasty in signing his targeted scrubs that could perhaps be signed later for a minor league deal. Fedde was signed for 2/$15 and had at least one other suitor (Mets) so he wasn’t in the same category of players that I was referring to.
-
Fedde was officially signed on 12/13/2023. https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/roster/transactions/2023/12

I think this is what @ChiSox59 is referring to but hopefully he can correct me if I’m wrong… https://www.purplerow.com/2009/2/19/762532/mlb-transactions-part-thre

Don’t listen to it if you don’t want to get angry. Reporters drilled him pretty well. ”Did you know that Cairo Santos is a perfect 70 of 70 within 40 yards?” ”Yes, but we were comfortable with the positioning on the field goal.”
-
Fedde had other suitors (I seem to remember the Mets) and he was signed for 2/$15 million. That’s a different situation than DeJong, Soroka, and Lopez. DeJong turned out well but at the time he was signed, he was coming off of 4 bad seasons in a row.
