Interesting. With all the talk about what Vaughn added to the Brewers since they called him up, I was thinking of a stat that could show how many wins he likely added since WAR wouldn’t really work. Here’s the definition for WPA:

I think I’d rather see them in Arlington Heights. Maybe being direct neighbors with the Bears would create more Sox fans, attendance, and money to spend, but if they continue to suck, none of that will happen regardless of their location.
Agreed. I think they will offer him a 1-year deal through salary arbitration. The only 1B prospect they have that is close to ready is Luke Adams I believe.
Regardless, I doubt Vaughn is still this same stud going forward into next season. But the Brewers most definitely won the Civale trade and he has been a key addition to their lineup, at least for this year.
I don’t remember when anyone in Chicago was making “UnVaughnted” or “King Vaughn’s Dongs” t-shirts or whatever they are that Brewers fans are printing up. 🤣
You should have said “a month’s worth of at bats” then. He was hot in two separate and non-consecutive months (July and September) and his usual “Sox self” in August.
But that isn’t exactly what happened — he had more than one scorching hot month. Vaughn was Bondsian in July with a 1.157 OPS after the Brewers called him up from the minors on July 7th. Then he slumped in August with a more Sox-like .695 OPS. However, he sprang back in September with a .942 OPS. A .942 OPS is damn good for anyone, much less what we remember Vaughn providing.
But your point about the Cubs offense swooning late has been the norm. Someone posted this last night…
Vaughn finished the regular season with an .869 OPS for the Brewers and nothing is bigger than a key homer in the playoffs. He was definitely a big, albeit unexpected addition for the Brewers.
Meanwhile, the last Sox player to hit a HR in the postseason was Gavin Sheets on October 12, 2021. 🤣
When you are a $40 million dollar manager and look defeated from game 1 in front of your players, you aren’t doing it right. Like I said, that’s a terrible look for any manager.
Good points. The Vaughn trade also coincided with Misiorowski replacing mediocre-to-bad and unhappy Civale in the Brewers rotation, so that helped as well.
He was a big acquisition for them, no doubt. Not sure he was the entire reason for the Brewers to win 5 more games in the regular season than the Cubs. Brewers probably also beat the Cubs without Vaughn in this series.
Tucker will still obviously get paid but his second half has not been kind to his next contract negotiations. He’s also given the Cubs an excuse to not pay him.
