Tray, we know about those championships. The most recent one was 21 years ago now. Let’s be honest, that’s a long time ago now. Also, the Sox payroll in 2005 was pretty much middle of the pack in the MLB — 13th overall. https://www.thebaseballcube.com/content/payroll_year/2005/ Jerry didn’t really spend that much on the team until after they won the World Series. Trout is performing well now but he’s 34 years, more injury-prone than Robert, and the Sox would have to pay him $35.45 million annually through the 2030 season, assuming the Angels aren’t including any money. Calling such a trade “ill-advised” is being nice.

Problem is he has already been relegated to the bench by Venable so it will be tough for him to get enough playing time to prove himself, unless more injuries occur. Meanwhile, both Peters and Kelenic are producing. You also have Grichuk and Hays sill eventually be back.
