I realize this is likely more 🧌’ing, but Abreu played 1B at a high level from age 27 to 35. The Sox cut him loose at the perfect time after 9 good seasons. He fell apart in 2023 once he signed with the Astros, but who really knows if he was truly only 36 at that point? 🤣

They had to give up their 13th ranked prospect 1B Cole Mathis (2024 2nd round pick) for David Peterson. Mathis is tearing it up on the minors but he’s only in Single A and turns 23 next month. Probably worth it since the Cubs need just about any starter they get their filthy hands with all of their injuries. Shouldn’t we all want this to happen? He has more power than Meidroth and it looks like he will hit for a higher AVG with a higher OBP. The only question is — is Meidroth’s defense drastically better than Antonacci’s at 2B?
