I wish they would say what the plan is for Newcomb. He sounded like he thinks he’s starting.

Both will be interesting, for different reasons. Good starters left, very mediocre OF options.

Getz said Peoples was getting trade interest as well. Of course he is going to hype these guys up, just like did did with Acuna. And trade interest in a Rule 5 guy could be offering literally anything of value or no value.

But that has been the strategy for years. The guy you hate and that looks very Meadiocre had the very same studly minor league numbers. Vargas did too.

I’m very happy with the “state of the nation”. The Sox, not so much. But why would it be crazy for fans to say that the Sox could rebreak a record they literally just set a year earlier? It was the highest loss total in 125 years. I don’t think it was crazy to think the Sox could achieve any feat, no matter how awful. Getz was literally trying to tank. The Sox might get a phenom SS in a few months as a result.

You shouldn’t be shocked. I could pull up posts in which you were still defending Rick Hahn until the bitter end, after numerous failures. Now, Getz is your savior. And here you are, still defending fucking Jerry Reinsdorf. Quite frankly, your takes are biased and awful. But good luck to you. Peoples is a nothing burger and the Sox seem to love 26 year old Davitt more than his performance has earned. He must have some great stuff.

I don’t think anyone will be that upset considering they turned a midseason signing of a mediocre starter in Houser into Mead. Like I said before, people will just wish Getz had traded Houser for younger lottery pick prospects like @GreenSox complained about immediately after the trade, rather than a post-hype prospect that a better developmental organization in the Rays was willing to give up on.

I don’t think anyone overvalues Mead. He’s out of options and there may even be a slight possibility that he doesn’t make the opening day roster. I’m guessing he does but I still don’t think people would be devastated at losing Mead. Like @GreenSox always complains about, Getz should have dealt Houser for some younger lottery tickets. I just think with where both teams are, Robert is a great pickup for the Mets, so whatever fans are complaining are just upset they missed out on Tucker. Acuna isn’t bad for us either, but we just wish we received more.

I get your point regardless, but the Mets are loaded with infielders. Ronny Mauricio can essentially replace Acuna’s utility role. Mets fans that don’t like this trade are nuts. They have a Gold Glove center fielder with hitting potential for up to two years and didn’t have to pay $240 million for him.

Not really a good comparison. Bryant is 34 years old and is still owned $78 million over three years, all guaranteed years and money. He also has chronic lumbar degenerative disk disease. He’s not likely to ever be productive again, or even finish out his contract. If he even plays, it will likely be as a full-time DH. Meanwhile, Robert is only 28 years old, is owed either 1/$22 million or 2/$40 million, is relatively healthy (albeit injury-prone), and can play Gold Glove defense in CF.

Yeah, but they traded a post hype prospect that may only amount to a utility man. I can’t imagine Mets fans are very upset with this trade. They get boom or bust potential for up to two years for a guy that would be sitting on their bench.

Mets fans hate the trade? Where is this? I assume they only hate it because they missed out on bigger FA outfield targets and had to settle for a trade for Robert.

This is why I am hoping Getz passes on adding a “starting” outfielder. I really don’t want to watch the likes of Conforto wasting Sox at bats.

Development of the Sox own players will mean way more to the team than any of these additions. Everyone is excited over Murakami but the dude could be gone in two years before the Sox ever even make the postseason.

Once again, I said they were nice signings. But this isn’t some amazing big market team’s offseason.

Let’s be honest, they are nice signings for a frugal team but baseball fans are used to the Dodgers and Mets offseasons.

Bader has the potential to be the next Benintendi contract at a smaller scale.

I assume he was signed as a flip candidate, otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense to sign him over a similarly priced starter.
