Yep, I like the idea of younger guys over prospects nearing 23/24 but with a guy this young, performing well at a low level could be a bit fluky rather than having a couple seasons of performance to look at. And then, he would have to further develop in the Sox farm system. Yikes. Would be a ballsy move by Getz to go that young on prospects IMO.

Sure, more spending either way though.

We had one of those. Unfortunately, Rick Hahn in all his wisdom traded him for the already decaying corpse of James Shields in a futile attempt to make the playoffs. We also could have signed a star player in Harper. The Sox could have afforded him and his contract looks like a bargain now. But Jerry got stage fright.

Unfortunately, Robert is no Soto and has never been on that tier of players.

The problem for the Sox runs deeper than that though. Jerry as an owner is already a competitive imbalance because he doesn’t want to spend a reasonable amount of money on free agents to keep up with the times, much less Juan Soto money.

Tell that to yourself when you are watching Austin Slater in the outfield next season while Mets fans are watching a future Hall of Famer in Soto. 🤣

Basically, all the stuff Poles should have done with the OL already. He should definitely be on the hot seat.

But just imagine if you were Dodgers fan. A Conforto signing for the Sox would be the prize of our offseason. For the Dodgers, his signing is an afterthought.
