They now have a legitimate young 3B. Go take a look at what Morel’s putrid defense does to his overall WAR. Meanwhile, Paredes is a 4 WAR guy because he is good on offense and defense. It really isn’t close. Right now, Paredes is a much better player than Morel, and they are both 25.Their two trades seem like retooling for the next few years, not just for this season. They acquired Pearson as a reclamation project that they may try to turn back into a starter. They also needed a 3B because Morel can’t play defense.Robles was there for the taking. Getz wanted Senzel.Ironically, Paredes was a Cubs prospect to begin with but they traded him in 2017 with Jeimer Candelario and cash to the Detroit Tigers for Alex Avila and Justin Wilson.
