There’s just too much competition for starting pitching and the prices are going to be outrageous once we see them. The team on the north side is somehow 62-47 and they still desperately need another starter. And that’s just two teams in competition for the postseason in the same city. Unless he stupidly overpays massively in the way of prospects, I won’t blame Getz for whatever happens by August 3rd at 5 PM.

To milk the best possible return and every last dollar of his contract. The deadline isn’t until Monday.

I’m not doomsday posting. I just don’t think Getz wants to give up the prospect talent that it would take for Detmers and I don’t think Jerry will approve adding the salary for two rentals like Ray and Holmes. If I’m right, can I come back and s%*# talk you for being a homer? The funny thing is that you could look up your own posts at every trade deadline over the previous years and how you expected great things but ultimately ended up being disappointed in what the Sox came away with at the start of August. Jerry still owns the team afterall.

Detmers is completely different. He won’t be a Sox because of his low salary, control, and prospect demand that Getz won’t want to pay, which is understandable. They didn’t just acquire Urquidy just to pitch innings at Charlotte. He will pitch starter inning for the Sox at some point this season.

You’ll get one and Urquidy and pray that he pitches like it’s 2022. Regardless of what delusional @Chicago White Sox thinks, Jerry ain’t eating millions of dollars in salary on two rental dumps. They will also bank on Shane Smith returning.

I still think Singer makes the most sense packaged with Stephenson. But Ray and Holmes will probably be somewhat reasonable in cost if the acquiring team takes on their bloated salaries.

He’s definitely a nice runner up prize but the real winner is the Nationals. A middle of the rotation starter for 5 more years is as good as gold these days.

I agree with this then. Getz chose his staff and he will rely on all of them to some extent. So if there is failure, it is ultimately on Getz, not just the guys he hired. Getz is the one who hired them afterall so he takes the fall.

I predicted this last year.

He is, and he is. But there’s no way he’s only trusting his own opinions on pitching talent. Even if was a pitcher instead of an infielder in the majors, he would still be listening to other members of his staff on pitchers to target. It’s not unlike the corporate world. The higher up you go, the more you delegate to other people. Of course, if s%*# hits the fan, you are also ultimately the one to blame.

I’m not arguing your point, but I think it can be assumed that Bannister talks to Getz and makes suggestions on pitchers that he would like to work with or that he thinks he can makes some tweaks to improve their game, if they were acquired.

Well, I assume Getz is acquiring pitchers that Bannister suggests to him. In any case, I have a feeling no one is going to be very happy with the scrubs Getz manages to acquire by the deadline. Prices are too high.

If it isn’t increasing regardless, you aren’t trying hard enough.

This team is going to be .500 in no time. I’m not trading away any prospect with a name to improve this team. They will get hammered in the playoffs by the cream of the crop if they even make it.

If these are the rumored prices, I wouldn’t be shocked if Getz settles for an expiring contract starter and Urquidy, along with a decent catcher, and I can’t say he should be blamed if that is the end result of the deadline.
