Carlson is 19 years old. He’s not pushing anyone right now. For all we know, he could be moved to CF at some point if Acuna is a bust. I get the Cholowsky argument to some extent but he still needs to be drafted and get some MILB at bats first.

So Peters is Venable’s starting CF against righties? Moving Colson off of SS to play Acuna there? A weak roster provided by a weak GM with Venable making lineup decisions like Grifol. Apparently not much has changed.

It’s a backup catcher so defense is the priority. I believe it was hinted at that the Sox preferred McGuire’s defensive game over Lee’s. Venable was Boston’s bench coach when the White Sox traded McGuire to the Red Sox in 2022. But I seem to remember Lee having a good throwing arm so that may have helped against the 7 stolen base game.
