Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
PaleAleSox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't take any baseball rumor as 100 percent truth. But I think your leap to "Chris Getz is making this up because there isn't much interest in Garrett Crochet" is insane. -

I’m confused why it matters? First off, we have no idea if Chris Getz is leaking this information. And if he is then he is doing…what every other team/player does for their own personal gain. -

We are hearing about teams interested in Juan Soto. What's the difference? Is Juan Soto thinking he isn't good enough offers that he hasn't even gotten yet? -
Moving on from Vargas would be premature. You have to give him a year. Fletcher is whatever. Probably destined to be a platoon player, but it would be dumb to move on from him too right now because what is taking his place? If you get tour RF of the future in the Crochet trade than sure.

Why is it hard to believe teams are very inter in Crochet? -
Apparently I can.
-
As opposed to doing what exactly?
-
I also put little weight into what a team tells a player when they sign him. It goes back to teams picking a guy 15th in the draft and saying they would take him number 1.

That ranking didn’t take into account that none of them are ever on the field to actually play. -

I’m fine with it but he absolutely can’t be the main piece. That would be awful. -
Pretty unrealistic thing to think would happen. The butterfly effect from just keeping Sale would have changed all of this.
-
Who of the White Sox decision makers are saying they are doing that? Colson is hoping to be the opening day starter. Which...why wouldn't he want that?

Can a foodie make up a rumor or something for the love of god. -
What is even the argument going on here? Is he a bad hire because a team went in a different direction? Hitting coaches/instructors seem to move around all of the time.
-
I didn't realize it was a finite amount of money that drained. I do not want Andrew Vaughn back, but paying him 6.5 million dollars would not be the reason they don't sign a big name FA. It would be because they are the White Sox and just don't do that regardless.
-
What does paying him 6.5 million for one year have to do with 2 years from now?
-
Yeah, ideally the answer is neither. But if I have to pick one, it's Vaughn. There is at least a slim chance that can turn into a positive situation for the franchise.
-
Why are people believing this report to begin with? Seems very much a "trying to pretend interest is there" report.
-
When would we have developed him exactly? Drafted in 2019. Minors didn’t happen in 2020, and then Vaughn was on the team in 2021.
-
A sales job?! I am losing my mind here. A sales job of what? He was putting up Maldonado numbers before he was cut.
-
What young players would be rushed if he isn't on the team? Tim Elko who is already 25? Andrew Vaughn will put up better numbers than whatever Jose Abreu would put up this year.
-
I thought his interview with Chuck yesterday was very insightful. He seemed to explain things in a very teachable way. Really hope it pans out. I also like, in general, the younger minds that are coming in (this hire, Venable, bench coach).
-
Wait. Are there people who actually want to bring him back and are not joking?
-
Are you worried about this preventing something else or something? I don't know if the guy making 1 million or 4 million really matters.
-
Based on the mad libs you could play with this statement, it seems like a strong, smart hire from an organization who has been doing things right for quite a bit.
