QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) He was doing fine just prior to the trade deadline. In his 10 starts prior to the trade deadline he had gone at least 7 innings in every one. In his last 9 starts he had the following line: 68 IP, 54 H, 12 BB, 21 R, 2.78 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 48 K, 4:1 K:BB, 6.35 K/9. In 3 of his last 5 starts prior to the deadline he went at least 7 2/3 IP and gave up 4 or less Hits and 1 ER or less. He is a very streaky pitcher it seems. Last June prior to being traded to the A's his June looked like this: 1-3 5.45 ERA, 33 IP, 40 H, 20 ER. I will agree with you on the maybe we weren't offered enough, so we said no thanks. I do think some other GM will try to sign him this offseason and we should get a comp pick. If you were Samardzija would you take a 1 year deal at $15 and hope you have a great season or a 4 year deal at $52 total. I know I would take the 4 year deal. If that happens I have no issue that we kept him around if we didn't like the potential return for him as a rental. Is that comp pick worth more than what we gave up to the A's though? the question would any of this be discussed if shark help the team make the playoff??? i never liked the trade b/c of Bassitt. there were a couple of us that discussed it and felt the same way. but we were not trying to be negative. now the first bold, this one will never be fully explained, but i still think there was a division in the FO on whether to make the run or see.... just my hunch.

8-14-15 Cubs vs Sox 3:10CDT (Hendricks vs Samardzija)

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:30 AM) Well guys, if the offense scores 5 runs, that should be enough to win games. Samardzija is a little c*** and I hope no one signs his punk ass in the off season. He was throwing BP all day like he owed his cub buddies a shot at a 2nd wildcard. f*** HIM! the sox should just give him a QO just for the comp pick. it is a win-win situation. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:23 AM) No thanks. I'd rather spend on Cespedes or go get Cargo or Puig. i am remembering that Puig was put on waivers and immediately pull back. now for me, i am thinking that the dodgers may have had a trade in line. wasn't there a mention that puig was now going to split time b/c of his play.

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:52 AM) To be fair to Shark the last two teams he faced were the best team in the AL and the hottest team in the NL. Not like he got rocked by Boston and Colorado. but if he wants to get paid for a #1 - Ace elite pitcher, they he needs to put up those kind of numbers. -
QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:50 AM) at the time of the trade deadline he wasn't really doing that great and I'm guessing we weren't getting offered enough. i wouldn't know about that. i think it was too late to get anything of what they thought he was worth.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 03:13 AM) Actually, not selling out a late Friday afternoon against a Cubs playoff team isn't that great. while that may be true, but wasn't some of the tickets at $$ 2.... i may be wrong here and am imagining it.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 15, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) I don't want the White Sox to give up any picks this offseason regardless of where they choose. They aren't in a position to be giving away draft selections. you got a point and i wouldn't either for except for 1 player. Heyward. however i like the idea of players, including pitchers will not get that QO. then they will not cost a draft pick.
-
if the sox will be outside the top 10, i would rather not waste a pick while signing a fa. however, now if the player may be a great player. i really think that it might be worth the gamble. but the possibility of signing a draft pick, what an est 20 mil a yr contract for a hitter, and loosing a draft pick..... i don't know if the sox FO will go that route. hitter - interesting names to key an eye on. Jason Heyward Gerardo Parra Justin Upton Delmon Young

in spite of the score, today's attendance 36,000 + that is great .....

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 11:53 PM) Chris Rongey needs to go. I really hope WLS does not bring him over. He brings zero knowledge to pre and post game analysis and just states the obvious. I find it strange that the things he argues are completely out of left field in an attempt to support Robin as a manager. He claims that players cannot be taught new things at the MLB level, that they are what they are. I find this logic ridiculous. if this is the case, and it is all on the players, why doesn't he ever blame Hahn or KW for putting this crappy team together? In regards to Ozzie JR. He will say anything to make his old man look good, even if it's at the expense of other people. In summary... Rongey and Ozzie JR need to go away. this is pathetic, it is like a celebrity who needs to remind the world he is still alive. ref the first part, i agree.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 05:03 PM) IIRC, it was determined that it wasn't taken at Wrigley. EDIT: Apparently it was shot at Foxfield Track in Charlottesville, VA somewhere around 2007 or so. the last i remember, esp when i stop following any sports, was right around this time. i saved..... many thanks for the corrections.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Why wouldn't Mike try to mess with the pitcher a bit if he could? That's not Bush league, it's just smart imo. i 100% agree with you. it's a smart move. there are many moves like that is part of the game. to find a way to take the momentum away from the other team. as someone mention, it falls on both the pitcher and the manager to ask for the extra pitches for a warm up.

The profiles have background info, scouting reports, links to videos or interviews we've posted, awards and rankings history, and projections. i didn't know that..... i am adding this to my fav's link so i can read it all. excellent -
Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) The Hawk rant was a slam to the coaching staff and team attitude. While it may not have been intentional it goes to the point that there is talent there and the failing of the team is baseball IQ and coaching. I am not a Hawk fan and the cub broadcast is better but Len Kasper feels the need to push every advanced metric he can into the broadcast. As a fan I do not need advanced metrics to know what is happening. WAR, fWAR and FIP, ERA+ etc do not mean anything to me. I am a professional, understand numbers very well and love baseball. OBP, HR, WHIP and ERA are all I need to understand the game and who sucks and how much they suck. I can see with my eyes guys that cannot field, guys that can, and guys that will not hurt nor help you in the field. I dod not need zome rating and that bulls***. I do not need Fangraphs and Baseball Prospectus. What I need is a nice broadcast something between Len and Hawk, and the best stat of all TWTW. The putrid baseball IQ of the White Sox is more of an issue with me than the Hawkeroo. Go You White SOX! i have reread the article for the 3 or 4 times with the last time being done now. i agree with you. however what i see in this whole thread that while hawks way of being a homer does get on some posters nerves. has he been doing this for too long??? yes i can't see who the sox will find to be a better announcer, it seems to be too watered down, but an announcer will not put this team on the national market b/c of the team performance. now with ref to the article, anyone can see the intent of it in the first 1 paragraph and in the first sentence afterword. it was meant to give props to the score and the 2 announcers, while at the same time using the hawks comment as the lightning rod for the excuse. i will bet every announcer will do the same thing at some time. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) You are correct, my bad. I zeroed in on his failures since 2010 and kind of forget they were still pretty successful after the WS title. That being said, it seems like they could use a managerial change but he is in the owner's back pocket. interesting thoughts on that. i always took that no matter how, he was always getting the best with the teams that was given to him. maybe i am skewed in the opinion of the talent he had. -

QUOTE (asindc @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I think it comes down to this for some fans. We all root for the players to do well and actually like most of the players on the team, especially the good players. We fans don't have the same emotional investment in management, however. Thus, when something goes wrong, emotionally some fans would rather blame management than the player for the player's failing. As has been noted a few times already in the this thread, if we fans understand what should have happened on that play, what would make us think that Jose Abreu doesn't understand what he should have done, or that management doesn't understand what should have been done on that play? Another Sox fan who posts on another forum is famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective) for saying "I wonder sometimes if some Sox fans watch other teams play, even while they are playing the Sox." One of my best friends is a Detroit Tigers fan. If you listened to him talk sometimes, you would swear he was talking about the Sox if he wasn't using proper nouns. We often times just register what our emotions allow us to. i don't know about the whole thing. but thank for your thoughts. but i mention this many times before.... before i came back. the sox fans are not happy if the team doesn't win every single game. as unrealistic that is, it is still the truth for me. in addition, fans has their own pov on how things should be done and you put 2 or more together and banter is going on, you will hear many different expressions on the subject being talked about....... that is what makes this site, and i am biased, great. it give many, many sox fans the ability to exchange those pov, whether it is agreement or not. only 1 thing, do not take it personal, b/c i know it is not meant to be. -
does anyone remember this pict from before. it is taken i guess from 2005 or 2006 about some real idiot sCrubs fans. this_is_why_it_is_called_urinal___.mp4

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Platoon Danks and EJ vs good/bad teams. =p i wonder if Rodon will still be seeing a pitch count, esp since his last performance. he doing really well developing. but if the sox want to platoon ej with rodon

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) I'd wait til September or send down leury if i remember correctly, and i am be wrong, in sept, the sox would need to send anyone down. either way, i would bring him up now, and send down leury or dfa adam laroche

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:49 AM) Bring up EJ and go with a 6 man rotation the rest of the season. We're going nowhere. I want to see him up soon. Get some starts who would you send down???

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) Ozzie's ego won't let him not care. It is why he can't walk away. that is funny and it is the truth. i never look at it that way.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 02:35 AM) Never heard of Thaddius Lowry. I pay attention to our farm but not every single prospect. I'm looking him up as I type this same here, never heard of him and then he put himself on the map. i imagine this is the unexpected fruits of good scouting on the pitchers. i am crossing my fingers that he continues his development and continue on the same results. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 08:23 PM) Seeing four catchers in that list is good. yup. but of the 4, those that are closest to the majors is hitting what??? rhetorical -
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) I don't think he is going to want another year of this. I think he resigns and says it is for family reasons. I guess there is a chance he then might accept some position in the organization such as scouting. i can see him in some sort of FO position.
