  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Heck yeah. Reddick would give the Sox some pop from the left side, play solid defense, hits for a good average and does not strike out much. I'm really hoping a trade for Reddick happens. i am for it... just wondering what the cost is.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) If Quintana isn't involved, sure. the upside is much better, if that is all it is cost.
  3. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) That's why I'd like to see us go for Puig. Nice young impact bat. He's struggled this year no doubt but it would be a monster trade and good add. the way i see it, the major component for trading prospect for players now is the prize of winning now. who knows what the future will hold. second is the money money now, the money generated from a winning team provides and lastly the personal factor of winning. what ever happens in the future, it can be dealt with. the only weak point is, the team needs to have the main core already in place and is only missing a couple of pieces.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) The Guillens were the obvious source of the White Sox leaks. Ever since they left, you barely hear anything out of the Sox camp, which pretty well confirms that. We won't know anything about the Sox unless the other team puts it out there. The best you can hope is to read between the lines of what the beat writers are being fed to say. very great deductive reason.... sherlock holmes like.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) No thanks to Gomez. and i like to know why not???
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) It is time the Sox started thinking more about defense and less about the future of Avi's hitting abilities. Giving up 2 defensive liabilities and a current fireballing starter but projected reliever isn't bad at all . I'd only offer Montas and Micah first. Or Avi and Montas depending on who the Brewerrs like more. I have stuck up for Avi as much as anyone here but a talent like Gomez is hard to pass up at his salary and for next year too. Avi is a hole right now no matter how good you think his future could be. you have a great point. in addition, the brews needs pitching.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) 3 of the guys are top 100 prospects: Jake Thompson - 60 Nick Williams - 64 Jorge Alfaro - 69 The other two are in the 20's in the Rangers system. And Matt Harrison used to be a top of the rotation pitcher, and may return to that, and can be slotted into the rotation right away. I think it's a pretty damn good return. i agree, and they can flip anyone of those for additional assets. it just keeping getting better.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) I didn't vote either, Reddick is my vote. I've been wanting Reddick since he was in Boston. Really like his bat and glove. he is enticing..... i wonder what the cost would be.
  9. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) #3 prospect I guess. Good for Cleveland, f*** St. Louis. did anyone see the new tv deal stl just got??? stl wants to win and take advantage and keep the faith from the fans.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) So tell me why again the Sox don't need a very good player for 2016 at $7M a year when he's likely to get at least double that in the open market ? There has never been anything wrong with his hip. Hamstring soreness yes, hip no . per mlb rumors, the deal was nixed b/c of the health factor of both players involved. second, if his injury concerns are nothing, fine, deal with the contract extension, i am more concerned on this season and post play. the sox are going to it. ok fine, we as fans can't chg that, so lets go for it. i am more like billy beane attitude of moving players to help the team that yr. granted i am not talking about emptying out the farm for Gomez. i want to win and if anything, he may be able to ... that is all.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) Do you realize that Zack Wheeler had Tommy John surgery and just started throwing again and won't even be available til June/July of 2016 ? Yes he is young (25) and talented but will he be as talented when he recovers ? I'd say its much more likely the Brewers stopped the trade because of Wheelers health rather than the Mets nixing it because of Gomez. i know of wheeler, but tor this discussion, lets assume we are talking about my org post. i was talking about Gomez and only gomez. if there is some concerns about his hips, i am in the thinking, ok, but the sox don't really need longer than season 2016. let him walk after that yr. this person can add the little spark to help the sox continue in their unbelievable streak. just to give the team more momentum for the last months of the season and playoff.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) No he isn't. KW just has more power. Probably veto power over things. I don't know for sure just my honest opinion. Hahn isn't a puppet. Wouldn't have taken the job if he was. yeah .... but the humor and the visual is funny.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) 15:$22.5M, 16:$22.5M, 17:$22.5M, 18:$22.5M, 19:$20M club option ($6M buyout) 2019 option guaranteed at $24M if Hamels 1) has 400 IP in 2017-18, including 200 IP in 2018, and 2) is not on the disabled list with a shoulder or elbow injury at the end of the 2018 season Since we're on his block list, it probably wouldn't have been possible anyway, but $99 million for 4 1/3rd seasons isn't exactly cheap. That's $22.85 million, on average, per season...for his age 32, 33, 34 and 35 seasons. It would be the White Sox equivalent of giving up Tim Anderson, Montas and Courtney Hawkins/Micah Johnson, and then you'd have to add in a pitcher who would have roughly the equivalent value as Matt Harrison to the Phillies (not sure who that is on our team, definitely not Danks). Would any of us think of that as a bargain? What if we signed a pitcher like Samardzija (both around the same age) for 4 years and $91.5 million? Granted, there's the perception that Hamels is an ace and Samardzija's more of a 2/3 guy, but there's no guarantee that Hamels will be as dominant in the AL, either. you got a point but i would take the chance on hamels.... it is moot, considering the cost to get hims. forget about it.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) If he pitches like he did last year with the Sox he can help a major league team. you do got a point, but the results are too incontinent.... the sox already has corrol.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) He's 29 . Birthday isn't till December . Never mind the facts. What ? Eaton can't play RF ? He'd last longer and Gomez is the better fielder. Also a "modest" .761 OPS would be 2nd on the Sox among regulars behind Abreu. i can agree with the idea of the cost of prospect being too much, however the sox don't need him for any longer amount of time. the sox need him to add a continuous spark to this hot hitting team to help carry the team into the playoff.
  16. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 06:19 AM) I think some of you read far too much into Rock & Bucket's posts. I feel like there are times where they simple give their opinion or speculate just as fans w/o any inside info. true......
  17. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) As we sit here on decision Monday with the trade deadline looming, and ample new threads popping up, discussing buy or sell, remaining schedules and return for selloff etc. I thought that this one, the closest RV bashing thread at hand, very much indeed needed another bump. With merely Lexi, Melky a 2B and Eaton playing with a level of competence expected all along (but with LaRoche corpulent, Abreu bad-hand powerless, Avi mediocre, Gillaspie having cratered all-around, Flowers less lucky, etc, etc. ) the team is, in fact, competitive. Our division is tough, but the main advantages our ALCentral opponents seem to have on us are psychological/strategic. I'll concede the Royals are significantly better - they're the best team in the AL. We're over 500 against the rest of the AL and NL. Before I continue, let me say this on a sober-as-a-heart-attack Monday morning: There is not a trace of a shadow of a doubt in my mind that our beloved Sox would be in a buying position if they had a better Manager and Coaching Staff in 2015. The standards have changed in the 5 team format - massively flawed teams WILL make the playoffs this year and others. I have never bought the argument that we're a bad team and a long, long ways away. It seems to suit the "see, we sucked all along " narrative from a few that feel the need to feel correct. The fact is that Toronto and the rest of the contenders with massive 2-3 game leads on the Sox know that they're chasing a (for now) fraudulent Twins club. This Molitor could be a good manager. But, back to the WC teams we're chasing - they're all massively flawed, too. Toronto, with a terrific offense, is the best of the bunch, and MB56 (all due respect) is their ACE? Dickey is their two, and I'm not sure he matches up well against 4's/emergencies on other playoff clubs. And, the BEST teams don't always win or even get to the WS, not by a long a shot. Even with the added importance of winning the division, we see time and again that getting in the 10 team tourney is most paramount (Pirate fans may disagree, granted) I've been preaching for months that the margins in this game are infinitesimal, and right now, that margin is 2 games. Easily the difference between competent managing/coaching and Robin and Co's active badness. We've accumulated more baserunning badness in 95 games than any team ever has (since they've been keeping the stats) in a full 162 season. Correcting that alone could have made enough of a difference, not the mention the failure to platoon LaRoche, Zombie-level April energy, or the countless strategic blunders that we don't need to rehash. All this said, we are woeful offensively, and if we can get a serviceable bat (preferably) or otherwise real value for Shark and others, they should be dealt - such is the position we're in. At any rate, it is imperative to find out if EJ and Micah are parts of next year's equation. There is plenty of room for CS, TS, MJ, and AR to share the AB's of 2B, SS and 3B the rest of the way in '15, and CS should also get a few games in LF. The chief goal needs to be to find out what we have for '16 in real games, against real, trying-their-best competition - spring training is illusory, but I digress. Look around the league at who's leading their divisions: Are Girardi's Yankees really 5 games better than that division? I don't think so. Bochy holds the Giants together with dust tape and baling wire. Scioscia has the respect of his players without question. Say what you will about Yost, but he had has guys honed to a fine edge of preparedness to start this season - the opposite of our staff. Uber-talented Wash and Det seem to be under-achieving - managing? Two or three lousy games. As a guy who's never felt that Managing/Coaching were a gigantic part of the formula, I'll close my longest-ever post with an attempt at Yogiesque wisdom. Managing matters enough to matter. for me, i really hate to be a killjoy..... but let me ask this one question, if the sox make the wc, their first team will be whom in the playoff??? all teams are positional themselves with some great trades. so i will be very pragmatic in my saying this. maybe it is my natual hard hardheadedness that making me question this. the sox are in one unbelievable hot streak. the hitting is out of this world. sanchez, melky saladino .... so what will be everyone opinion will be when the hot uhhh hot streak ends, as it normally does. what is the real identity or this team. the hot streak will end. i really hope it doesn't. i truly want to see another ws ring. so the window of opportunity is now, like the rangers who mortgage their future, the sox needs to add pieces or ........ i will let you finish the the "or" part.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Since they're starting on a Thursday, one would guess that's 4 games at Minny. Bad luck for the White Sox here, no Felix Hernandez in a four-gamer. JA Happ vs. Hughes T. Walker (rough last four starts) vs. Milone Montgomery (also rough the last four after dominating) vs. Gibson Iwakuma vs. Pelfrey Yankees FRI-SUN Rodon vs. TBA Danks vs. TBA Samardzija vs. TBA Most likely scenario, Twins split and the White Sox take 2/3. Twins leading by 2. However, with how hot the Yankees are (yes, so are we) and Rodon/Danks both going, anything's possible on the positive or negative side. About the only thing we can predict ahead of time is that Samardzija will go 7+ innings for the 10th or 11th straight time. i know this took some time, but oh well........ thanks.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:49 AM) Every AL team has played at least 100 except the Sox... 100-game records... KC 61-39 NY 57-43 Hou 55-45 LAA 55-45 Min 52-48 -- Bal 51-49 Tor 50-50 Sox 50-50 or 49-51 TB 49-51 Det 48-52 Tex 48-52 Cle 46-54 Sea 46-54 Bos 44-56 Oak 44-56 I'm going to assume the worst team after 100 games has never been as high as 44-56 before. interesting....thanks for your hard work.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:09 AM) Noesi - Dick Dotson fixed him. i am not trying to be snarky or anything like that, but noesi is a AAAA pitcher. too bad.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:10 AM) Do you guys agree with me that the biggest game of the year will be the game AFTER we finally lose? To put to rest any thoughts of an immediate 5 to 7 game losing streak? Or should I forget that thought and throw it out with some of the other incorrect thoughts I've had this bizarre season? interesting..... i would never have thought of something like that. but yeah.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:21 AM) The beacons are lit and Jobu took fear from bats. who started the Jobu phrase on this site..... what a great time to do it.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:18 AM) In 111 professional innings covering 2 years, Brian Clark has allowed exactly 1 home run. Not too shabby... i tried to look him up in the T30 for the sox prospect in miilb. is he a rated prospect??
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) Do their struggles have to do with switching leagues or not adjusting to DHing? I'm not sure why a batter would suddenly become unproductive simply by moving to the AL. how old was paulie k when he retired??
