  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) As of right now, the White Sox have the 8th best bullpen ERA in the big leagues at 2.84. The Royals are on top at 0.78, the Yankees are 2nd at 1.86. Our pen is 9th in the big leagues giving up a .620 OPS, the Cubs are 8th with a .617, the Royals are 1st having given up a .420 OPS. We are 1 of only 2 teams with 0 blown saves, but we have only had 3 official save opportunities. Our pen is 6th in MLB in k/9, 9.59 strikeouts per 9 innings, the Giants are on top at 11.69. We're 15th in MLB in bullpen WHIP and 12th in K/BB ratio, because our pen has pitched the 5th fewest innings in the bigs and yet we're still in the middle of the pack in walks. Overall based on the available stats our pen looks above average, hasn't been used all that much, and isn't up there in the top 5 but is borderline close to it. That assessment is not based solely on ERA, which could be dominated by single games for these guys, but instead taking into account OPS, WHIP, K/BB, etc. i really truly appreciated your attempt to explain this, but i am like the animal that will hide its head in the ground. i am too freaking old and sick to understand this. for me, i trust our bullpen, i like the players make up. the pen, i believe would even have better stats, if the team would have performed better. however that didn't happen. i will confident in any games in the future where the sox have to use their bullpen, and screw those advance metrics i will judge the game, the old fashion way. watching and hoping. for those who are really good at advance metrics, i do not mean any offense. i feel as i am in the horse and buggy carriage days when everyone is driving cars.
  2. after reading this thread, here is my take. at this juncture, at this time and date. the pen has been absolutely fantastic. they deserved all the glory that anyone wants to heap on them. they are really the saving factor of this season with the soxs wins. now how do they compare with other teams, historical how do they rate, strategically how do they compare?? my only point is, i do not care. i am a sox fan, a die hard sox fan, and the only thing i care about, is the sox winning. how they do it, who cares. i am not smart enuf to think about advance metrics and with ref about other teams, i will deal with them when the sox plays them. sorry for my rant.
  3. honestly, imo any move the sox make now, the other teams will see that as a desperation move and will ask for the most. the pen is really the bread and butter, i just wish the sox would have gotten another rp. re positional players, who is out there that can be added relatively cheaply, then have to know next yr when the prospects will start nipping on the heals of making the big league. cat.... same but i wonder of P Obrien from Arz..,. i think, i read something about him somewhere last week. he might be avail..... but i have to keep on thinking, this team, like all teams barely started their season.
  4. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 02:36 AM) I remember someone was trashing him... I can't remember who but it was one of my first few weeks on the board. But someone was trashing Robertson like he was Joe Nathan or something. He's been dominate for along time. This is only his 2nd year closing but as a SU for Rivera he was filthy. then i was wrong, but it was only 1 person. still the overwhelming amount was for the signing.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 12:59 AM) No mention of Taylor Lautner/Jacob from Twilight and his six-pack abs, lol? ummm i really don't get into looking at mens abs.
  7. if i remember correctly, no one said anything negative when the sox signed him, it was all positive. now for those who may have wondered, jump on the boat. this is why the sox needed him. sox in 15.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) Surkamp is the 4th lefty on as of now. With the way Jennings and Duke are going, no need for him. Carroll is here for innings and nothing else. didn't Surkamp get released today??
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 05:08 PM) Operative word: "supposedly". I believe that rumor was from way back in season 1 of the "new Comiskey Park". If memory serves me correctly, someone called the Jonathan Brandmeier show and merely said it happened, but obviously with no evidence to back it up. It was quickly debunked and dismissed by the team, and the story pretty much ended at that. new sox park open in 1991 1993 Sept 29 WOMAN SHOT ACCIDENTALLY AT GAME http://www.news-record.com/woman-shot-acci...a002ac2b3f.html
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) The only thing that makes is Samardzija pitches Tuesday, and drops his appeal on Wednesday. Sale pitches Wednesday, and drops his appeal on Thursday. Then they use a 6th starter on Friday, and move on with the season. nice strategy, it will work.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) I say you can't force things. Paying out the wazzu for one hero, much less loading up with 35 year old "proven" veterans, won't make the difference. Some of the moves over the winter were premature. The foundation isn't complete. As for Lucroy, his offense is excellent...for a catcher. But you pay a ridiculous premium for that offense from a catcher. Much better to accept catcher as an offensive hole, and use the resources to improve other areas that can be improved more efficiently. it wasn't premature, the job wasn't finished. the sox FO just assumed to do minimal . however, if all they wanted to do is make an appearance of doing something, so the season tickets can be sold. well they did and accomplish what was needed.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) I didn't and wouldn't suggest Anderson. And if you think he will end up at .179, that's your prerogative. A 36 year old player shouldn't be getting top prospects in return i agree, it is the cost of doing business.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) No one suggested giving up Anderson for anyone, let alone an over the hill Aramis Ramirez. this org thread is about making a trade, picking up players who can help. i am just pointing out, in order to do any trade, the price of the rtn is going to be steep. the sox are not in a position of making a move without sacrificing somebody.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) I do know there was an incident where a gun was supposedly fired from the now torn down Robert Tayler Homes and it did a little damage in the upper deck. It occurred on a non game day. nah, it was during a game, a man did something and the it misfired.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) According to reports, the Angels are paying $65 mil of the $80 mil he is owed. Not a bad move for Texas, if he still sucks, it's cheap to get rid of him. $15 million, 3 year lottery ticket. i wonder what the rtn going back to the Angels is going to be.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) on a totally unrelated idea, trading will definitely be a bad idea. but i see a lot of players in their 20's being release. i wonder if any is worth picking up. the sox has to go dumpster diving again.

    2015 Films thread

just saw Tracers, premise> fast and furious meets parkour or free running. the actress is absolutely beautiful. that sport of Parkour is crazy.... i wish i was a teenager, i would have love to try this stuff. i really like it in the james bond movie Casino Royale movie.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mlb/kansa...le19500801.html Story on Ventura's need to mature...mentions Samardzija chirping at him again from the dugout...dates back to last season and A's/Royals match-ups in the second half and playoff game. a real fluff piece.... i love the comment of Ventura from the FO how having "maturity and emotional stability"
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) Theyre going to stash Segura at 2b or 3b for this year? Trade Ramirez to free up the position? Segura is going to require a huge haul too because of 2013 and his strong start this year....no bargain basement discounting. We cant play Morse in the outfield....so we are already willing to eat most of LaRoche's deal or part....seems crazy this early. can't believe it, the voice of reasoning.
  20. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 07:09 AM) I call bulls***. The has NEVER been an incident with a gun at the new park. if you are serious, it did happen. somebody who had a gun, somehow misfire and he shot his own leg. upper deck behind homeplate. and the way you responded, how do you know if it did or didn't.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Illinois could get a national seed Meanwhile I have firmly moved from the "not sure on fulmer - I might rather have buehler" group to the "if your medical people sign off, you have to take fulmer" camp i was intrigue by him but there are so many barriers. he is barely 6'0, a closer who is a starter, are his secondary pitches are good enuf to be a starter in the majors, can he stay a starter. too many questions. don't get me wrong, he is coming on strong now.

  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 06:14 AM) he looks really tall and lankly.... that swing. it reminds me of someone. either way the bat looks fast from start to finish.
  24. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 03:18 AM) Was referring to Braun, sorry. Looking at my post, I can see how it was unclear. I realize that Lucroy is a dream, but I don't think the Brewers can compete within his contract window, so I'd move him if it made sense. T'would be nice. But these holes ain't gonna fill themselves. i can understand what you are saying, but the cost will be too much, something like anderson and adams.
  25. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 26, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) This is my take as well. Definitely not arguing against BPA by any means, but I won't mind if they think that an advanced bat is the BPA at pick 8, OR if there's such a guy they love who can be had underslot, won't mind saving the $ for a run at an overslot in Rd 4. taking a look of the rtn vs another prospect chosen at #8. the 2 position vs each other. the pitcher, on who will be avail and a positional player. at this point, on this day, i am still maintaining that the best choice will be a position player. the best pitcher going into the season hasn't panned out as expected and/or injuries, at least for me. on the other hand, the hitters has taken the necessary step up. there is some good value, and strategy in addressing this yrs draft. so many different ways to go.
